@bali song i disagree but survival is all about different opinions and ways of going about things. Good thinking with the shovel modified into a saw though. Never heard of that before. I'd definitely take an axe and saw though and there's a lot of wood processing to be done and the correct tools will equal less calories wasted. 👍

Richard s tarps are provided to all contestants that don't count towards the 10, along with warm clothing and emergency gear like a medical kit. And a saw is the most efficient at processing fire wood, you want to conserve calories out there.
I was wondering about the tarps since they don't have them mention them or additional clothing that would help to know such things . Hint hint production 😁
Richard s then I guess you are new to woodworking? The saw and the axe dont have the same jobs. Its much easier to process firewood with a saw than an axe....so less calories consuned

Not sure why you'd need a knife, axe and saw... get a good 7"-9" camp knife that can be a chopper and do finer tasks, and a folding saw for making shelter and cutting firewood. Axe seems redundant and so many people chose one.
Feyd Darkholme you would burn too many calories chopping with a large knife, this contest is all about conserving calories but you need to process a lot of fire wood for warmth which a saw is the most efficient. But I would want the axe in case the saw blade broke or the wood was frozen.
