    Absolutely the most thought out kit I've seen for the show. Awesome 👍

      Thank you Jim! That is what the executive producer also said to me when they filmed My 10 items. Of, course since I was an alternate, I never got to see any of the footage of me, other than the first episode of Season 3 it is called "Making the Cut" You can see a glimpse of me here and there. Hopefully someday I'll get another chance to be on the Show. I was hoping that they would do an all "Alternate (cast)" show. Give us misfits a chance to show our stuff!

      Hey, thank you very much for that. I think it is really important to use our creativity in our life and especially in survival. Solving problems is what its all about.

    Big bowfisherman here. Freaking love that you picked a fish arrow. It would’ve worked. However you should pick a standard white fiberglass arrow. Much more robust than the carbon splined arrows.

      My arrows I would have taken when I thought of going on the show were
      3 broad heads
      1 ripper
      1 fishing
      2 field points
      2 Judo points

      Thank you Patrick. I call the whole experience Almost Alone. I had all the expense and stress of preparing to be on the show, without the prize of being on the show, that is how it goes when you are an alternate cast member. I am grateful though that I got to go to Boot camp, and go to Patagonia for free. I learned a lot, and made friends with most of the cast from Season 3. I was down there for 20 days, I went camping solo and tested my skills around a lake called Palo Lago, after I was release from the show. I was down there longer than 2 of the contestants LOL! I shot this video in my room on the ranch where the lake was, on the last night I was there.

    • @patrickgermond2750
      @patrickgermond2750 7 лет назад +1

      Panacea X Hey so when they ship you off to boot camp, do you get to come back home before the contest starts or is it boot camp then a day or two then off to be alone?

    • @panaceax5612
      @panaceax5612  7 лет назад +2

      Yes, you get to come back home we had about 4 weeks before we had to leave to Patagonian. The Boot camp is in up State New York which is near where the production companies (Leftfield) headquarters are. The top 20 out of the 5000 applicants that year were flow out for free of course. It was fun, and stressful; the survival assessment with the British survival experts that they bring in are really great. The main guy is really funny and kept everyone laughing when he was around. There is extensive psychological testing and a thorough physical exam including blood work and an EKG.
      You need to do some really good video to get their interest. Be your self, but do something different/interesting/funny. Bow drill, who cares... you now what I mean? Go for it!

    Thanks for all that input bali song. Some of the things like ashes in your shirt would be cheating. All the items I took were approved by the production teams survival consultant, who went over all my gear and clothes I was to bring when i was in Patagonia. You mentioned the Cold Steel Shovel and that you implied it had a good saw. I am a fan of shovel type survival tools. see my website here: www.panaceax.com/saxe-shovel-axe/ the problem I ran into with the Cold Steel saw was that because the shovel is curved, the saw can only saw about 1 1/2" deep before it binds on the curved edge. I also agree a good saw is a real energy saver, worth taking in most situations.
    Season 3 was the first year that ALONE did not need any of the 2 alternates. So of course, I was bummed i did not get to be on the show, and still I am grateful I got to go the Patagonia for 20 days, and become friends with most of the cast from season 3. There were some really talented survivalist in that season 3.

      I can imagine someone getting all the way to the end and then having their winnings invalidated or worse... their self-validation for competing invalidated. Render unto the producers their due, since it is their money, being risked on you anyway.
      What I think, Bali? Stay safe. Follow rules.
      We don't ever want a 'Bear Grylls' style PR disaster.
      Credibility matters in this community, even if other categories of shows do things differently.

      I'd like to have that tool is it even possible to get one

  • @donrussell8889
    @donrussell8889 7 лет назад

    Condor now offers an e-tool with a saw edge, but the teeth are still not offset, so it wont cut a kerf unless you use a vise, hammer, punch and caliper to offset the teeth yourself. That's about a 1 hour job. Main thing, tho, is to realize that only net-fishing will give you the win, reliably. So leave behind the hooks and line, in favor of the 9-strand 750 paracord gillnet, and of course, the hammock made of the same material. Together, when you access those inner strands, you can weave 2500 sq ft of 3" mesh netting. That will make a lot of sapling-framed traps for birds, mammals and crabs, a lot of gillnet, and big netting fish-weir and a net "holding pen" to keep them alive until you're ready to preserve or eat them. The real saw work, of course, will be done by the 10" Silky saw blade, held in the visegrip of the Crunch multi-tool. You need to catch 800 lbs of fish in 2 months, in order to get thru the winter .You have to juice just as much kelp, as your carb-source as well as arrow an average-size black bear (ie, 200-300 lbs) as your fat source, to get thru the winter. The bugs of spring will end it then, for sure!

    I didn't know you could take combination tools. What I mean is like I have an all steel axe with a 30in steel handle but half of the handle is cut into saw teeth to be used as a saw. I would think it would be counted as two items instead of one

    • @panaceax5612
      @panaceax5612  4 года назад +2

      Many of the participants had custom knives and tools and clothing etc.. Every item is carefully examined and are either approved or not approved. All ten items were approved by production crew survival expert.

      I was an alternate cast member for Alone season 3. there were over 5000 applicants for season 3. The top 20 get to go to Boot Camp in New York, Top 12 fly to the location top 10 are on the show. Unless there is some kind of emergency between cast selection and the launch. If one of the cast has a emergency during this period, then an alternate will be selected. You can see me on season 3 episode 1 its called "Making the Cut". I recorded this Video in the Hotel in Patagonia, Argentina.

    what about a net?

    • @panaceax5612
      @panaceax5612  5 лет назад

      Hi Peggy, thanks for your thoughts. I had a gill net with me, but that season in Patagonia, they only were going to allow us to use a 12' long net and we could not put it on a creek. We could only put our gill nets in the lake. I believe one of the cast, brought a gill net and caught nothing with it on the lake. I substituted the bailing wire for the net in hopes that if I got the chance, I would use it to snare big game and for shelter building so, that is why I did not choose a net.

    • @larryhaglar3027
      @larryhaglar3027 3 года назад

      if you know to take the rope hammock, you can make 5x more cordage and netting than you're allowed to take. and it saves you one pick. you dont need the sleeping bag, ferrorod or cookpot, so there's 3 more picks that are freed up. You want a slingbow, and take down 2-3 pc arrows ,for the option of having your projectile weapon always in your belt and the ability to make baked clay balls for shots not worthy of an arrow.
