That stare was really intense. Even through the video I was reminded that there indeed are places in Earth where I'd just be a part of the food chain, not above it. I used to work for an animal rescue facility. I was sitting next to a 700lb Brown bear. I felt fairly safe because he was a 13th generation born in captivity bear.
He was eating raisin bread and just stopped. He was looking at me and blowing out of his nose. I didn't know what that meant yet but I've never seen him do it before and by this time I have worked with Lakota (the bear) for about 3 year's but I assumed it was aggressive.
I slowly stood up and kept eye contact. You don't want to challenge the bear but you can't appear weak either. I slowly walked backwards to the cage door opened it and walked out and locked that cage door.
Then I noticed the bear was not looking at me. In the cage next to me was a 600lb Siberian tiger (Nimbus). He was not supposed to be in there. Someone had made a mistake. You can't put those two next to each other. I didn't notice but I was up against his cage and he was low and stalking me. He very well could have reached me with his paws.
Lakota had noticed him and I didn't. The bear was locked on the tiger stood up and started going towards Nimbus. These cages were a temporary setup at an exhibition in the public to raise money for the animal's. Although they could not get through these cages they were not secured to the ground so that means they were strong enough to move and possibly lift the entire cage.
Luckily the tiger ran away from the bear and nothing happened but the entire situation taught me a lot and it could have gone horribly wrong. That bear saved me that day.
Unfortunately a couple year's later a different bear kills my childhood best friend who got me the job. Life is crazy.

So sorry for your loss. May i ask how the bear incident took place?

    • @boostjunkie2320
      @boostjunkie2320 3 года назад +8

      @@Peapodzilla Thank you and sure.
It was feeding time and unfortunately the owner of the facility only sent my friend out to feed the animals. We never fed them alone, it's too dangerous. They are completely different during feeding time.
Well the owner told the police that he was playing with the bear inside his cage but he was lying. Forensics proved that he was attacked from behind while preparing the food. Either someone had left the cage unlocked or the bear figured out how to open his door.
Most people don't realize but bears are actually intelligent. Like to the point of twisting caps off of bottles with their paws. Most of the bears there we had no contact with because they were too dangerous so I'm betting a bear figured out how to push the lever up and slide it over. I often seen them trying to figure it out. I voiced concerns on the issue. I voiced concerns on having guns in the facility or at least a plan if an attack happened and it fell on deaf ears.

Yup I agree. Although the bow in that situation would not have saved him. If he shot the bear it would most likely (unless it was some amazing shoot to the spine. ) change him and kill him. Then the bear would maybe die after if it hit the bear in a vital organ. So instead his best bet would have been an axe and or knife on hand. At least with that while the bear is chewing on you. You can at least stab it in the neck or something. Better then your bear hands.

Then you can always have your projectile weapon on your person. Make a pack harness to carry the camera case's 30 lbs of gear, hands-free. You have to lug it around everywhere, folks.

no point in it. The thing to make is 250 sq ft of 4" mesh netting per day, for 10 days, out of the rope hammock, Then sew thru the meshes, making 1250 sq ft of 2" mesh netting for use as a seine and net traps near the shoreline. Later, when the shoreline ices up, pop the stitches and again have 2500 sq ft of 4" mesh for gillnetting out in deep water.

make a 5 ft long handle for the shovel, with a hole in the end of it so that you can lanyard this paddle to the pontoon outrigger raft. and so you can sling it over your shoulder as a spear. If a big critter is worrying you,, a bear banger is almost certain to run him off. If the noise fails, wet a finger, see which way the wind is blowing and move so you can give him a snort of the bear spray from upwind. There's no reason to not keep the spray-can tied to your belt, everywhere you go. If the spray doesn't run him off, attack him with the spear. He'll get the message. You are running the show in that area and all he can do is play second fiddle.

How about catching 10 fish per day for 8 days vs 1 per day for 80 days with the boat. More chance of success if he can safely store them. Then he can devote all the time on the shelter, keeping a fire and how to spend the money.

the shelter need not take more than a day. There's no need of a warming fire. You need to eat 10 lbs of live weight fish per day, in order to not lose weight. You wont catch anything like that many fish until day 45, when you can start using the 2500 sq ft of netting made from the rope hammock, IF you've known to do so, that is. Nobody ever has.

why? it's very easy to start fires in 4 other ways, not including bow drill. Then just keep the coals alive in the ashes. It's very easy to do. and re-starts the fire MUCH more quickly and easily than mere sparks from a ferrorod.
