I bought it a few days ago, a gift for myself, for my birthday on January 3rd. While I was watching your video, your voice became particularly familiar to me, then the face of King Joffrey from King's Landing came to me.
Comparing this to Moonswatch seems like an insult imho. Case of stainless steel, sapphire glass, Seiko quartz chronograph movement and it does not tick like an alarm. Better, more affordable and available.
This is a great watch for the price. Far better than the plastic, non maintainable, overpriced moonswatch. I love mine always looks sharp on the wrist. Didn't they give you a NATO strap?
I don't agree that the hands are big. I think Pagani did a great job regarding the hands size in this watch, even better than the original Omega's when it comes to proportion and legibility. The watch is very good for the price, but it's definitely not for small wrists.
On Amazon in the questions section of this watch, they indicate that it is available without a date window. They have a difficult (for me) to use link for this model. I can find no option for this anywhere. What can you tell me?
Hi there. The watch is available in different colourways. The black ones I believe all have date function. Other colours seem to have the option without. Looking at Amazon prices they are very steep so shop around :)
Good review! I've finally placed an order for one and can't wait to see it in person as I am a big fan of ceramic bezels. This will also be my first chronograph. I am curious and cannot find an explanation online as to what "1701" signifies, could you please explain? Thanks!
What's your wrist size? I heard the bracelet cannot be sized up to smaller wrists as not enough links can be removed - is that true? I got a 6 and a half inch wrist.
@@johnswatchjoint I see some stores are also offering it with a sail cloth strap now (black with white stitching), will probably get that one then. Thanks for the quick reply and best of luck with the channel!
It is as you say a chunky boy, but that's only cause the Speedy itself is, it's exactly the same size as an Omega Speedmaster, it could be loads thinner, that mech in tiny.
Yeah, gotta say, the cons seem to outweigh the positive on this one. I do however would prefer a badly implemented date window to no date window at all. It's one complication i'd rather not do without as it's very useful and convenient to have and I'm so used to having it, it's always startling to not find it there whenever I put my weekender on.
I love a date window also but on this one I found the face just over-cluttered...but that is only my opinion. Thank you so much for your comment and keep watching :)
@@johnswatchjoint I mean, I get it, but at least it's colour-matched. 😄 But in all seriousness, putting a date on a homage of a watch that didn't have it feels like it's just feature packing to make a homage seem like a more appealing product, then a conscious design decision. 🤔 That said, I find all chronos over-cluttered and hard to read (for me at least) and I guess I just don't like this type of watch. I have a Seiko chrono and I've never used it for it's "intended" purpose. I find a timing bezel to be absolutely enough in most cases and in cases where more precision needed i'd rather use a chrono function on a digital Casio or on my trusty old Timex T45181, which coincidently has both options. 😄

BE AWARE OF VARIATIONS IN 1701 V3 LINE! Pagani Design have change bezel and removed dots around 12 o'clock to make it less of a carbon copy. You are lucky to have the BEST 1701 V3 with accurate bezel and dots😊
I am not an actor. So let me get this straight. You walk into a shop and ask the assistant for a watch you can buy for £70 that has a bracelet you cannot use or resize when next to it you can buy a g shock, a Casio Edifice a Timex , a Lorus, a Pulsar that all function perfectly. You are missing the point. When you buy a homage of an iconic watch you want to have it on the iconic bracelet, not have it stuck in a drawer. I buy hundreds of watches, and time and again Pagani produce a brilliant watch followed by three that are just pants. They continue to do this when all others move on.
I personally would not be comfortable taking PD 1701 watch off my wrist for show and tell. I have no problem wearing MoonSwatch with Omega and Speedmaster brandings. If you want Moonwatch that is better than MoonSwatch than look at Bulova Lunar Pilot (2nd watch on the moon)
I have two iterations of this watch, both are V3 (at least). One is the AK Project homage and the other PD-1701A rose gold panda. Neither of mine feature a date window. I vehemently disagree with your assessment of the bracelet. This is - BY FAR - the best PD bracelet ever produced. All of the company's bracelets have felt cheap and jangly, like a 20EUR replica purchased on the beaches of Marbella. I currently own five Pagani Design watches and have held others. This five link bracelet is a thing of craftsmanship and beauty. Again, I have two examples and both of them are great. I would say that the edges of my AKP version are more severe than the rose gold, but even then, it wears like a dream on wrist. I wear these very infrequently. Consequently, if there were any discomfort, I would know straight away. To complain about the thickness of a PD bracelet is rich, considering they are famous for cheap bracelets, smh. I am also pleased with the substance of the watch: bracelet, clasp and case. The wearing experience removes any idea that you are wearing a cheap replica or homage. The PD clasp is glorious when compared to other AE brands. Could they lose the diver's extension? Definitely. I searched both that I have for the crude finishing or fitment that you highlighted. I was unsuccessful to discover any complaint. I do see a bit of a difference in the end link and the lugs of the AKP, but it is minor for a man that is anally retentive, such as I am. You moaned about the case thickness too, which I thought was a reach. You do realise that the Omega is 13.18mm versus the PD-1701 is 13.8, right? It is a chronograph! .62 mm - really? I was disappointed to hear this review from you, because my recollection is that you tend to review what you like and resultantly, we hear the same positive impressions. To me, it seemed like the brand upsets you in some way and it was reflected in this review. Alternatively, you were sent a piece of shit - now why would they do that? Because frankly, you were reaching to find something wrong and every niggle was insignificant. This doesn't change my opinion of your content, I'm just disappointed that you were disappointed, because Pagani Design have produced the finest homage to the Speedmaster, for the price, that exists.
Thanks for your opinion which is welcome and reflects your experiences. They do not mirror mine. I no longer review PD watches as I can no longer heartily recommend them. Out of the few issues I have had on AliExpress, PD are the brand that consistently fall way short, with watches broken on arrival, poor QC and mainly broken bracelet mechanisms. Of course these are my experiences and it would be awful if I recommended their watches just because they have sent a free one regardless of quality. I cannot account for your feelings as you obviously disagree. That's OK but your experience is not my experience and I will always be honest in my assessment. My reputation rests on that. If you want to insult me then that is your choice but I will simply hand your worded gift back so you can use it on someone else. Best regards
@@johnswatchjoint No insults from me, John. As I said, I am just disappointed that you are. I don't consider my luck to be any better than anyone else's. Of the five PDs that I own, only one disappointed me, but not because of the quality or workmanship, but due to the version change that swapped one crystal type for another - without informing its buyers. I guess I have been lucky, given your experience and that of others. After watching your vid, I went down a rabbit hole of recommended vids that featured problems other reviewers have had with their PDs. Oh well, we can have a laugh about all of this, because one day these watch brands will have sorted their QC issues and ours will be esteemed examples of the brands' salad days, when they cut corners and made mistakes. It is likely that holding on to these watches will reward us with ROI.
I am glad that this discussion did not disintegrate into a full blown argument as is so often the case. I started this as a hobby 15 months ago but because of my enthusiasm for watches it has now started to be more than that. I value people's opinions absolutely but there are so many closed off people out there who are not capable of reasoning. Since the beginning of the year I have been on the radar for more brands who offer me watches. Not all are accepted and not all that send me a watch get a good review. I have to be honest. Even If I have my favourites due to handling many of their watches, they still don't get off the hook. San Martin just won't send me a watch simply because I call them out for the raft of QC issues of late. Baltany were the darlings last year but I still give them a hard time as this year they haven't quite held on to the quality of before. I am honest and consistent and sometimes people see their watch being given a bad review as an insult. It is not. I am really happy if they get a good one. Of course I am...but I can only review what I have at my fingertips. I hope you continue watching. All the best. John :)
At last...someone who agrees. Had a lot of bile on this review which have had to delete. I always try to remain fair and honest but this particular watch, especially the bracelet, was well below par.
