Just got a 2nd hand copy of Waterdeep + Expansion because of this review and I'm happy. Thank you bud! Love your content... one day or another it reaches the right person. Keep up the good work.
I think that’s just typical of the area. If you travel to Southampton just 20 miles away it gets stronger and stronger still in Bournemouth. Always wanted to be in the Wurzels 👍🏻
@@BoardGameBollocks so we picked up a used copy and love it. My 9 year crushed me on his first play! Keeping any eye out for the expansion. A little pricy at the moment.
An excellent worker placement game that's super easy to teach and play. Base game is great fun but it becomes something quite special when you add Skullport. Heck, it's probably one of the best expansions ever.
Seems like The Xanathar's special ability lets you rack up corruption to get those tasty benefits you mentioned, while minimising the downside. It incentivises you to go in early and hard on corruption in a way that other players can't compete with. Looking at BGG it seems like some people think he's terrible and some people think he's amazing, so it's probably largely a matter of playing to his strengths.
I think it depends on how the game pans out with the quest cards, buildings and what other players do with corruption. Opponents can easily tell if you have this guy and can damage you chances of utilising his strengths. I’m always a tad despondent when I draw this one.
Love this game, was my first worker placement. Need to get that expansion though, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. Good little summary of what makes this game great - nice one!
Simple to learn, each turn feels important, feels like it lasts just as long as it needs to... I know what you mean about the theme, but it’s never bothered me - the board looks good and I like the card art, so it draws me into what theme there is pretty well.
@@BoardGameBollocks It might be loose as applied to D&D, but as fantasy lords competing to rule a town the theming it perfect. I care nothing about D&D so what you find lacking I don'[t miss at all.
Still worth it in 2023. What a Badass! It still feels super fresh, it has the best Lore of the entire Forgotten Realms timeline, it's simple enough to not intimidate casual players, and has enough depth to satisfy more demanding players. 10/10. And it has the best insert I've ever seen in a board game. It deserves the BGG's #1!
I have always loved this game.I never say no to this game .Definitely worth playing..IMO I believe this game to be a step or two past a gateway game. I too like dealing two Lord cards to pick from.
You ever play the variants with skullport that involves creating custom quest/intrigue/building decks for a more balanced game? It's pretty great and might reinvigorate the game for you (particularly that aspect of disappointing buildings, as it specifically removes alot of the shite ones from the pile) Link to thread: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1026935/reducing-setup-time-and-finding-balance-work-progr
Hmm. Wife likes look of Creature of Creature Comforts. Feels like Waterdeep is simply a super solid Worker Placement game to compete. I am imagining filming this the then toddler looking child in photo was asleep and Mrs Bollocks told you not to film another one of those stupid game review vids as it'll wake her, so you had to whisper it!
I couldn’t give a toss about that crap mate. It’s a board game and not a reflection on reality. I’ve got no problem with people who choose to take offence though. Doesn’t affect me so they can get on with it.
Hmmm, you kind of explained/read out some cards in a weird/wrong way. Initially I thought you read all those card texts wrong for brevity's sake but eventually you keep talking about "money" on buildings when it's really "points" and how buildings are often rarely build. And it's not money, it's VP. It's mostly worth it to spend an action and 4 gold to get, say 4 VP, that have build up over 4 turns, and the actual benefit from the building itself, however weak it may be, since even it's used by an opponent even once, you get the owner bonus (maybe another 2 VP or some money or some Adventurers). Also the Lords you mentioned may not be awesome, but they do force you to play differently. E.g. Xanathar gets no specific quest bonuses for any type of quest at the end of the game, so what he has to do is finish BIG quests for massive points which require lots of resources,.... which he can get at skullport, which unsurprisingly also is the place where he gets the corruption that he can more easily mitigate because of his ability, he doesn't have to scramble to get rid of all his skulls by the end of the game and can easily have a bunch of them lying around if the rest of the players didn't get too crazy with the skulls either. Xanathar is certainly not the most powerful lord but he doesn't automatically lose before the game starts. Just don't waste your time on tiny quests that give you 4 points, because you're not getting another 4 points "lord bonus" at the end. I mean, you still gave the game 5 stars so you seem to be enjoying it but I'm not sure, if you actually played the game much, especially the expansion. In any case, your videos are nice and I enjoy them. Please keep doing them.

Cheers mate 👏🏻👍🏻
Very clear review, good format. You have improved over the years, building on a strong foundation.
Truly horrible going back and viewing old videos…it’s bizarre how much change happens without noticing.
@@BoardGameBollocks and there inflections of a south western accent which was peculiar.

@@BoardGameBollocks We scored the expansion at a Math trade, extra buildings and cards well worth it. Looking forward to working with the corruption.

Good review, love the format you used, very clear and usefull. Your usage of humor across the video is refreshing. Keep it up 👍🏻
Great video! Thank you for this! I've been on the fence about getting this game and now I know that I want it!!!
Picked this up today. Looking forward to playing this weekend!

Still plays great today. Dunno what the allure is as it’s pretty basic and the theme is loose…🤷

Thanks , I needed that mate !
Why is Jason Statham whispering at us? Lol only joking, good review
I was looking around for this comment. Just knew it had to be here! 😄
Looks likebthe kind of game I can get my kids to enjoy. Love the way all the fighters can only be spoken about with a soft West Country accent.
I’m not from the West Country...although I do have a penchant for medieval agriculture 🧑🌾
came for the review, stayed for the whispering
Haha!

Do you ever feel weird about playing with a slavers market? I just play with the under mountain expansion because I don't want to offend people.

Just houserule the buildings to cycle :)
Don’t like house rules
