This is a no brainer. I quite liked Lords of waterdeep, the expansion just made it ARERRGGGHHHHHH WWOOOOOOAAHHHHH!!!!! I bought it yesterday, played it last night, and it was exciting as all heck. More player interaction, more stuff, more fun, more thought. I've never had so much fun getting my butt kicked.
I have owned the base game for years and never picked this expansion up. Just recently been looking into playing this game again and this video helped me make the decision - just got the expansion. This was a great video Tom, thanks.
Thanks for this video, you explained everything in detail, showed some of the cards, the way the box looks etc. Exacly what I needed to make a decision on the purchase.
Awesome expansion, I will never play without both modules. One thing Tom did mention that I like is the synergy between corruption and the Undermountain epic quests. 40 point quests make gaining corruption to get more resources VERY tempting. :)
Looks fab. Love how you can also add a player with the expansion - that’s a true expansion pack... hopefully they add more players every expansion they add
Played the epic 6 player game with both modules last night. It is a long game but very cool. The balance of taking and giving corruption really comes out in the final rounds. One player positioned a corruption piece in the first position at Waterdeep Harbor which totally altered the last rounds. Great stuff!
9:28 Question about Quests with what appear to be ongoing rewards In the example of Uncover Forbidden Lore, how does that work? The extra intrigue cards and corruption are available...as long as you HOLD the quest card, or for the rest of the game after you COMPLETE the quest? And if it's the latter, how do you keep up with it given there's a quest discard pile?
I like that they added variety to the Lords. I wished in the base game that was one thing I wished they added a little variety. Now with the variety of Lords, corruption and new quests seems like the theme gets enhanced which is great.
Hi, I am a very new player on this game. I have a doubt about a Piety card named diplomatic mission to Suzail. It saids tha you can complete face-up Quest at Cliffwatch Inn as though they were active Quest. But I don't fully understand what exactly allows you to do.
I was actually thinking of getting lords of waterdeep soon but this looks so good I'll probably just get both together since it seems to add so much interesting choices to the game.
Yeah, I'm lucky my BGG secret santa bought me the base game with the wooden warrior/rogue/cleric/wizard meeples aka DnDeeples. Haven't had to use the cubes.
After playing Lords of Waterdeep for the bazillionth time the other day I had three thoughts: - "I LOVE this game!" - "I really need to get the expansion to this.." - "oh wait! I know what the NEXT expansion could add to the game!!"... ...it dawned on me that the Intrigue Cards had "Play at Waterdeep Harbor". I thought, "yeah, duh...where else are you going to play it?". Then I thought, "wait!!! What about Intrigue cards that can be played on OTHER spots?!" For example, you might have an Intrigue card that can only be played after you put an agent on the tavern. The card might read, "As an extra action, Play immediately on the Grinning Lion Tavern only on the same turn that you assigned an agent to it". It's reward might be an extra black cube (hmmph....I mean, "fighter"). The added thematic text might read, "While in the tavern a man overhears your plight and joins your party". I think that would be bad ass. Thoughts? Also, it goes without saying that an Intrigue card that allows you to steal another players Intrigue card is well overdue. P.S. It you steal my ideas WotC, just give me a small mention in your Design Credits section. ;P or, a free copy of the expansion works as well!
I played with someone's copy that had purchased the custom meeples. Makes the game feel better and more thematic. *plug plug* I am going to pick them up too.
"How do I fit it all in 1 box" - Joel Eddy said on his review that once he got rid of the insert from the expansion box, it had enough room to hold both the expansion and base game, which gets away from the pretty, but not functional base game treasure box styling.
Everytime I watch one of your videos like this and see at the start all the pieces dropping I cringe...... my OCD just can't handle the game pieces doing that lol
Nice review Tom. I hate to do it but I'm going to have to throw the insert out from the original box. I refuse to have an expansion box take up real estate that could be filled by another game.
adam heeley If you already bought the game, just find and print out the skullport and undermountain, then cut out the tabs and place them on the regualr board...there is more than enough space on the original board.
Nope. Nothing has replaced it yet. It’s #48 on his last Top 100. This is impressive, given that it’s a worker placement game, which is a pretty cluttered category. (Fact: a new WP game is released every 1.1 seconds.)
The designers are killing me...Grey Faction??? GREY!!!! could they not have picked a better colour???? Seriously, how bout Pink? MANY girls like to play board games too. Hell even guys wear pink now. But hey thanks for the grey tokens that totally get lost in the grey board.
If you read some of Waterdeep history, you'll see: "Force Grey, otherwise known as The Gray Hands, was a group of elite adventurers who worked directly for the government of the city of Waterdeep." There is likely a reason why each color is used.

How have you found the expansion, 4 years on. Still playing LoW?
@@Lordborg909 : yes, this game will never leave the collection. I still get it out and play when i can.
I've just discovered this game, period. Been binge-playing on mobile, and was curious about the expansions
Thanks for this video, you explained everything in detail, showed some of the cards, the way the box looks etc. Exacly what I needed to make a decision on the purchase.
As someone who has only ever played LoW with this expansion, I can hardly imagine the game without it.

Looks excellent! Glad I was able to grab it with the base game. Can't wait to finally try it all out!

Fantastic. We played it over the weekend with everything put in - it's like a whole new game.

You can use the Quest Reward when you complete the Quest. Plot quest are continuous for the rest of the game

Thanks Tom. Gift looks like it'll add some great fun this week.

So with Corruption, you lose points for every corruption you have equal to the number on the corruption track?
Correct
buy card boxes and use them as storage. you can easily fit all the component in the expansion box in a well organized manner.
thanks for this, you have charisma, and I think you are talented!!!
Awesome review. Definitely excited about it since recently playing the base game and enjoying it.
Looks like it adds lots to the base game for lots of variety. Awesome

Ha ha ha ha - I got a question off topic from your video. where do I get a "The Dice Tower" t-shirt?
They fit great in the expansion box if you toss the inserts.
Got this last week but have not played it yet. We got too busy playing king of Tokyo and the resistance 2nd ed.
Tom, Does this move LOW above Yedo now?
Now with this expansion do you like Lords of Waterdeep or Yedo more ?
You somehow look younger now that you did 6 years ago, what is your secret Tom?

😣
cubes? don't you mean warriors/rogues/clerics/wizards? hurhurhur ;p
Its technically "mages" not wizards
Google "DnDeeples" and you'll ind the BGG thread where you can order them :)
This is such a great game.
Where do you get the meeples from?

this looks like it takes up a lot of space now, I hope they come out with a limite edition with a compact and efficient game baord.

there is a PERFECT ipad/iphone version of this game. You should try it.
Ilker D. I actually sold this game. It just didnt do it for me.
How does it play with 6?
I wonder if Tom has gotten rid of this by now...
Nope. Nothing has replaced it yet. It’s #48 on his last Top 100. This is impressive, given that it’s a worker placement game, which is a pretty cluttered category. (Fact: a new WP game is released every 1.1 seconds.)
Add to shopping cart....
Am I the only one who get a strange feeling hearing Halaster being called "this guy"?? :)
D&D players know what I mean...
