- Can your band do this? ;)
One of Zorn's more infamous bands that existed mostly from 1988-1993
I believe this is from an uncertain date in Germany 1992
John Zorn - sax, composer
Joey Baron - drums
Fred Frith - bass
Wayne Horvitz - kbds
Bill Frisell - gtr
Naked City occasionally had Mike Patton on vocals or Yamataka Eye on vocals

Thanks to those that got this one into circulation!
Everyone talks about his skills on the guitar, violin and mallet percussion (as they should), but I never thought Fred Frith gets enough credit for how great of a bass player he is.
Master class.
The way they are all smiling, crazy bastards. :) F'cking great!
I fell over with excitement! True art!
Amazing
My band is renditioning this. I wish I would have listened to this take instead of learning the bass parts by listening to the studio version.haha! Unsyphering the grind part was a little confusing on that. But at least I got it right.
Love it but wish that the volume wasn't so low.
Country Locust?
yes?!
Country Locust!
yes!!!!
It's 4 bars of 5/4.
I'd say it's more like 3+4 4+4 3+4
It's 2 bars of 5/4 followed by another bar of 1/8. That sequence is played twice.
I really like em both but to my ears they all tend to pass the point where I am lost (and obviously not really enjoying it). When Naked City is doing to much "noise" (god... their later recordings... who can handle that xD) and when mahavishnu burry me under an avalanche of notes (most of the time it's good [speed and power like you said] but they tend to exagerate from times to times, when they could produce a much better effect with less notes and more soul in my opinion).
I like this and have seen Zorn live. But when I see videos of The Mahavishnu Orchestra I say that is 5 muscians at the top of their game. A different class of muscians were the Mahavishnu.Especially the first band.John Mclauglin, Cobham, Hammer etc. What finese combined with speed and power.
For some reason that rock section is giving me trouble counting-wise. Isn't it alternating measures of 5/4 and 6/4? Or what?
phathooligan late comment but it's like alternating between 5/4 and 11/8. Basically it's just 5/4 but every other bar has an extra 8th note
Always been a fan of John Zorn and his entire band. But DAMN ZORN NEEDED A HAIRCUT! LOL Whats with the MULLET?! Cut that thing already!
Great band, funny haircut.
What's the name of the album?
Naked city
without eye on vocals its too hard to listen
