James C So it's definitely spelled fluorocarbons (going back to the intelligence thing) and no gas or diesel engine in the world emits those since neither gas nor diesel contain fluorine, but I agree that "while pouring out smoke" a diesel engine does, in fact, produce less fluorocarbons... than something that produces them :P
Well unlike yourself I get laid, so because of that I had only 3 hrs of sleep and ended up pulling a 16 hr shift so I was tired and misspelled something that makes me a dumbass I guess. I should us spell check on my computer like you do so I sound more intelligent. But anyways your wrong with what you said in your statement before, but hey you did spell everything correctly.
James C Classic "i get laid and you don't" RUclips response. Please be original, you think you're the only person on the internet who does? lol anyway I'm pretty sure the guy in the original comment was joking so there's no need to take it so seriously. Also, legitimate question here, can you tell me where to find info on gas or diesel engines spitting out fluorocarbons? Because I cant find anything on it. Oh and if you're just planning on making this into an internet pissing match, please don't. It's not worth the effort for either of us.
Interesting fact: China's pollution output to GPD ratio has been steadily decreasing since 2005. Per capita they produce less than half the pollution of the USA population.
Also remember... although diesel has a high particulate emission, that emission is heavy carbon soot that falls back to the ground... meaning not Co2 gas. Sequestered carbon from diesel is much better that the heavy toxic elements that are part of hybrid electric vehicle production.
As a professional Diesel Technician i can tell you that 2010 epa emission regulations are very strict.. Manufacturers like cummins have a diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter designed to capture soot and a Selective Catalytic Reduction System designed to reduce NoX emissions via injection of diesel exhaust fluid (Urea) . Both of these systems work in conjunction with Exhaust gas re circulation to reduce overall emissions to 0.2g/HP-hr NOx and 0.01 g/HP-hr Particulate Matter
When it started revving I could hear captain planet crying all the way from the 90s Those turbos sound like a jet when they're spooling up Nicolas cage was gone in 60 seconds, this guy was gone in 6
okay for you people who are totally new to this, Diesel emits significantly less carbon monoxide than burning gasoline. And a considerably lower amount of hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide. It also takes much less energy to refine it. The black smoke typically contains carbon compounds that simply didn't burn as well as nitrogen based oxides and various particulates. Dangerous to breathe? Yeah, probably. You aren't exactly supposed to snort this stuff. Dangerous to the environment? well, not really, at least not in comparison to gasoline. They tend to just fall to the ground and make your car look a nasty oily color. It is actually cleaner than gasoline and WAY cleaner than what it takes to make batteries.
Xextreem the black in the smoke is carbon, and the carbon is too heavy and will fall on the ground and never make it to atmosphere. Who cares anyways I will be dead when pollution is a real issue
with all the passes this thing will make in its life..along with probably all other diesels....still doesn't equal the amount of pollution it takes to make 1 toyota prius
it's most likely a compound arrangement. Two smaller turbos feed into one larger turbo. And it is actually very efficient. Keep in mind this is a diesel where compounding boost is very common and very reliable. gasoline engines are very rarely compounded because they simply cannot stand the boost pressure. the cast iron block diesels that are compounded are sometimes running over 100 psi of boost. One larger turbo would simply not flow that much, so compounding is the answer.
Most of the exhaust of the diesel is pure carbon (particulate mater) and nitrogen oxide. The gasoline powered engine produce CO2, sulfur oxides etc. It is that simple. Diesel gives you lung cancer Gasoline makes acid rain and pollutes your food
Diesel engine forever, clean, don't be mistaken by the smoke, it's clean! And you can tune it untill the engine parts can hold in place together. And there are many alternatives for making diesel fuel, from oilseed, somehow from corn and from waste motor oil. Rudolf Diesel, thank you for being born and inventing the DIESEL engine. (sorry if some sentences have grammar mistakes I translated few words with google translate)
....It was there and then...nothing! Loved it! Only thing I don't like about turbos is that it takes time to wind them up. Does nothing if you want it there and you want it NOW.

Oh my god, I'm so sick of hearing that. Research the freaking topic please. If you want to bitch about something like that, bitch about smart cars. The batteries in the cars made more pollution during production, then this thing will in it's life.
GroddOfWar 777 OK your not too bright but I'll try anyway. What is the biggest source of air pollution? Don't know? It's the burning of fossil fuels, exactly what that car is do recklessly doing. Can you fathom how much co2, CO and NOx that car emits in one pass? I'll throw you a bone yes the production and use of the batteries used in smart cars do cause pollution but not remotely close to that of cars. 75% of ozone pollution is caused by cars, so hit replay above and really think about how much more nitrogen oxides that car is producing compared to a tractor trailer or a car. So take your own advice and educate yourself before hitting reply next time. You pointed out a producer of ozone pollutants as well did I but for some odd reason you failed to look at the big picture. No harm done just Google next time
GroddOfWar 777 that is absolutely not true diesel exhaust contributes 15 times more than gas emissions per liter of fuel burned. Diesel emission is responsible for 65 to 90% of a regions vehicular usage.
My friend, the smoke is smoke. not to say bullshit then since you're so much know-it-because these things in much of the World are prohibited in the US but no!?
Also bear in mind that once the batteries are shot, it takes a reasonable amount of energy to recycle or dispose of them. So that negatively impacts their environmental friendliness. But the main reason that those aren't overcome yet is that electric vehicles aren't practical yet, you can't use an electric motor & batteries for a semi, or larger trucks meant to do heavier work. And there's a real limited range with them, currently something like 50 miles compared to 200-600+ miles of fuel.
Pollution, pollution, pollution, let's talk about what's really important here. The fact this turbo diesel swap mustang here is far faster than just about everyone anticipated. HOLY CRAP this thing moves.
And also the other problem is that people use compound setups to eliminate the problems that turbos encounter at different rpms, for one a smaller turbo wont work as efficiently at low rpms as it will at high rpms and vice versa.
Thank you Jon Weddle, well spoken. I believe people think this about diesels just because you can physically see the exhaust. Do they think gas motors don't put out just as much exhaust? especially considering most drag cars are 500 cubic inch blocks or bigger. Nice video and nice car, its always badass when they have to fight to spool the turbos haha
Cummins from the factory has a massive crank. An inline six can handle a lot of power. Not saying the lower end is stock, but it is a stout engine. Some of these inline 6 engines are pushing 2500 horsepower, not reliably but they do it.
@hamster13 obviously he just started the car and needed to warm up the turbos, exhaust, and motor to optimum temperature in order to gain the few extra tenths of a second you gain from perfect temp. This is a science and the has guys do the same but in a different fashion. All motors need proper run time and temps to get optimum times. I'm site he could run like hell without the proper spooling, but he was looking for optimum running at a scientific level. He deserves congrats, not negativity.
No, this is not a sequential arrangement. Compounding means that one turbo is blowing INTO the other one, and they are compounding the boost already made. This is not a sequential arrangement where one spools lower and then it switches over to the larger turbo, in compounding neither turbo is ever "disconnected" from boost. I would link to some images, but it won't let me. PM me and I can tell you more if you're interested.
Hey dawright68dw, when racing with a turbo deisel vehicle, you have to spool up the turbo(s) before the race starts. Otherwise the race is over before they even spool.
Because all smoke is is unburnt fuel, Meaning there is to much fuel in the air/fuel mixture, when the turbos spooil up they are pushing more and more air into the engine, so the air to fuel mixture is leveled, causing grey to no smoke.
Actually, the smoke coming out of Diesel motors is actually sot not carbon Monoxide(that gasoline motors do produce and push thru the exhaust) So technically this motor is more eco friendly than a gasoline motor
