In this video I used M. Graham tube watercolors, made with honey, and Silver Black Velvet brushes, sent to me by Darvoid a while ago (thank you again!). Also I used Prismacolor colored pencils, and Strathmore cold press watercolor paper. In the past I've used much more expensive Arches paper, but I couldn't find it for this video. However, the cheaper Strathmore paper seemed to work absolutely fine.
I got the cool water cup from the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC.

Every painting has an "ugly" stage, more so that other mediums. IMO the difference between beginning artists and experienced ones is pushing past that stage, adding more contrast and form until it's no longer flat and boring. That's my favorite thing about art, the transformation 😊

Yes, having just enough perfectionism to ensure top quality work, but not so much as to create reluctance, thinking it won't be good enough. But when you engage long enough with the work then the precious flow creates a perfect work of art

Watercolor and colored pencils are the perfect marriage. Another great way to blend wax pencils with watercolor is to use Alcohol (on a cotton swab or another paintbrush), or those colorless blenders that always come with alcohol markers. I've even used Gamsol, that gives it a little bit of a "painterly" edge to it.
    * If you do these blending techniques be sure that you use 100% cotton paper or it's a bust. Your paper will mos def nope out on anything less.

Oh wow....lols? Peter, I get hiccups when I am excited about something. I almost felt them coming upon me when you opened and showed your colored pencils (I have the same set). AND THEN, I just knew here it comes, the hiccups feeling!? Because then, you said you were going to water color!? It's my favorite art medium, next to pottery thrown clay - that can be dried, pre-fired, painted, and then fired in a kiln. That medium you will love in your new classes I think I recall you sharing. No hiccups though? BUT, you made a beautiful piece of water colored and pencil art. And that made me smile! 😃

Because you're used to working with black ink your proces is different. With watercolors and colorpencils you have to layer. That's why your drawing starts to look better after you struggle through the first (patchy) fase.

I love the Pentel brand of water filled brushes.
Having the water come out of the brush continuously, instead of having to dip for it, is a game changer.

I tried this out earlier this year: acrylic paint (diluted & used like watercolor), color pencil, and pigma micron. Turned out much better than I'd anticipated.
I also tried acrylic paint and grease pencil, which was equal parts fascinating and frustrating.

No hate towards Rae, but Super Rae Dizzle always grinds my gears when she uses watercolor/shows swatches because they are always so weird and ugly, she seems to have no grasp on what the paints even are, she either uses them too thic or to thin, always on the wrong paper also

Hullo Peter! I have used watercolor and color pencils together for years! I would make a recommendation? Always use 2 cups of water! One will be used for rinsing of your brushes and the other for bringing fresh water into your colors! I know M.Graham is a professional grade paint. I prefer to use DaVinci of California Paints! Their paints and I wish to say ALL their paints are professional grade! I have used many brands over the years and I have become just completely enamored of this companies paints! I have been painting watercolor paintings since I was 10 years old. So I have used several brands of paints. I simply don’t believe that you can do better than DaVinci ! I enjoyed watching your video and seeing your painting or multi media artwork! Thank you for sharing and just keep creating your artwork in any and every way you wish!
