Every painting has an "ugly" stage, more so that other mediums. IMO the difference between beginning artists and experienced ones is pushing past that stage, adding more contrast and form until it's no longer flat and boring. That's my favorite thing about art, the transformation 😊
Yes, having just enough perfectionism to ensure top quality work, but not so much as to create reluctance, thinking it won't be good enough. But when you engage long enough with the work then the precious flow creates a perfect work of art
I've had the first time in my life for a few months now that I'm lacking any inspiration to make anything at all. After seeing your video I see something more clear that I just have to start and see where I end up. Thank you for that. Peter Palm.
I completely understand what you're talking about when you say you don't want to pressure yourself to create a piece of art. Just relaxing and creating is the fun. Love your personality and artwork!
Oh wow....lols? Peter, I get hiccups when I am excited about something. I almost felt them coming upon me when you opened and showed your colored pencils (I have the same set). AND THEN, I just knew here it comes, the hiccups feeling!? Because then, you said you were going to water color!? It's my favorite art medium, next to pottery thrown clay - that can be dried, pre-fired, painted, and then fired in a kiln. That medium you will love in your new classes I think I recall you sharing. No hiccups though? BUT, you made a beautiful piece of water colored and pencil art. And that made me smile! 😃
Haha. Be careful doing this with morning coffee. I always confuse my watercolor water with coffee. Dipping my brush in coffee, sipping the water color water.
Watercolor and colored pencils are the perfect marriage. Another great way to blend wax pencils with watercolor is to use Alcohol (on a cotton swab or another paintbrush), or those colorless blenders that always come with alcohol markers. I've even used Gamsol, that gives it a little bit of a "painterly" edge to it. * If you do these blending techniques be sure that you use 100% cotton paper or it's a bust. Your paper will mos def nope out on anything less.
I'm so glad you kept working thru the "ugly" stage. It's sooo inspirational to see such a good artist go thru the same things we go thru as beginners. This is such a cool piece! You killed it!!!
OMGGGG YES MORE OF THIS PLEASE. i love all the art you do. it's just that color is like a whole other dimension. it's also fun to change things around sometimes. do whatever ofc, but i'm looking forward to future colorful stuff too!!! i like how you experiment and just go freely.
Because you're used to working with black ink your proces is different. With watercolors and colorpencils you have to layer. That's why your drawing starts to look better after you struggle through the first (patchy) fase.
Hello Peter. I enjoy your art and I am inspired by your philosophy on making art and living in general. Been watching for quite some time. I just want to say thank you for being you.
my sister got me a quill pen and an italian leather sketchbook in italy and i’ve been obsessed ever since. the notebook smells so leathery it’s soothing.
This turned out beautifully! I love watercolor and colored pencils together. I often feellike I like my pieces the best when I'm not too concerned about what the end product looks like. It's easier to do that in my sketcbooks, much harder on a taped down piece of fancy paper! Thanks for the video, have a great weekend, Peter!
Can't believe you almost tossed this one! When I saw it on insta, it struck me as a very cool piece right away! Loving the colors - I'm excited to see more
I got into watercolor like a year ago....my first live is ink but I'm not artist with either lol. But messing with watercolor here and there has been so much fun!! The way it moves on wet watercolor paper is just awesome. Complete opposite of how ink is a hard, solid mark.....
I'm loving the new colorful videos! I've always been a fan of your black and white doodles, but as a color fan myself, seeing your pieces with color is just ✨*chef's kiss*✨
Watercolour and pencils mixed together is my absolute favourite mediums too work with together ! The best for both detail works and loose abstract stuff like you have done !
Most of my artworks go through an atrocious phase until I push through and make them work. It’s really the fun part though :) I think this is looking really interesting, candy-like somehow. Watercolor and colored pencils work great together, now you can also add ink drawing to the mix ^^
I tried this out earlier this year: acrylic paint (diluted & used like watercolor), color pencil, and pigma micron. Turned out much better than I'd anticipated. I also tried acrylic paint and grease pencil, which was equal parts fascinating and frustrating. Wanted to experiment more with diluted acrylic and other media like pastel and ballpoint pen.
My favorite watercolour pencils are the Derwent Inktense, but I recently bought the Derwent Inktense Blocks and they are amazing and so satisfying, well worth trying, Peter, for intense colour activated with water 👍
Peter, I'm so glad I found you on RUclips a few years ago. I dabble with art, and I get a lot of joy, and inspiration, from watching your videos. Thanks so much for doing what you do, and best wishes for your continued success. I love the Pentel brand of water filled brushes. Having the water come out of the brush continuously, instead of having to dip for it, is a game changer. I have not tried combining water color, with oil based colored pencils yet. Will give that a try. Also will try glazing water color, over water color pencil.
Hullo Peter! I have used watercolor and color pencils together for years! I would make a recommendation? Always use 2 cups of water! One will be used for rinsing of your brushes and the other for bringing fresh water into your colors! I know M.Graham is a professional grade paint. I prefer to use DaVinci of California Paints! Their paints and I wish to say ALL their paints are professional grade! I have used many brands over the years and I have become just completely enamored of this companies paints! I have been painting watercolor paintings since I was 10 years old. So I have used several brands of paints. I simply don’t believe that you can do better than DaVinci ! I enjoyed watching your video and seeing your painting or multi media artwork! Thank you for sharing and just keep creating your artwork in any and every way you wish!
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try those out. I see they are made right here, in my home state of California. Using W&Newton from tubes now, and they are pretty good, but always interested in trying something new.
I'm just really glad you didn't painfully misuse the poor paint. I saw you show the M. Graham paints and the silver black velvet brushes, both really expensive, and got scared you'd use them all weird or ruin the brush or something No hate towards Rae, but Super Rae Dizzle always grinds my gears when she uses watercolor/shows swatches because they are always so weird and ugly, she seems to have no grasp on what the paints even are, she either uses them too thic or to thin, always on the wrong paper also you did great! My watercolor artist heart is overjoyed
I love combining my watercolor ing with colored pencils, watercolor pencils (actually like using WC pencils to sketch with then they dissolve with the watercolor).
Process question: were you allowing the paper to dry completely in the areas on which you were laying down colored pencil over the watercolor? did you expedite the drying with a hairdryer? i ask because I'm inspired to follow you lead on a piece like this. Thanks.
Yeah I let it dry, but I didn’t use a hair dryer, parts were just drying as I worked on other areas. I’ve found using a hair dryer makes the paper warp more, and even the cutting mat I have under the paper
I've said this before I think all your paintings look kinda ugly up until one point where it all comes together and looks AMAZING. I don't know how you do it. I love these
hey Peter I was just reading your article in goldspot catalog, which came with my Peter Pen, Ocean Blue. What sort of ink you recommend to use in your pen, i have noddlers black, carbon black and some diamine ink. but i will be using the pen for drawing, i am an Belizean Based Art RUclipsr by the way.
All of those should work, i use Platinum Carbon black because it seems to smudge a little less in my experience. However some people do say it clogs up their pen faster since it’s a slightly different type of ink, but I haven’t had a problem with it
watercolor does not dry fast out of the tube (pans can take days to dry) and panned watercolors are not inherently worse than tubed watercolors. ik you're new with the medium but misinformation is never good. hope you stick with them though I do love how watercolors feel and look. theyre my favorite painting media rn
I absolutely hated standardization test. They drained the life out of my body every single time. Because that’s too much information for one person to hold.
Every painting has an "ugly" stage, more so that other mediums. IMO the difference between beginning artists and experienced ones is pushing past that stage, adding more contrast and form until it's no longer flat and boring. That's my favorite thing about art, the transformation 😊
That's beautiful. It's art that quiets my brain just looking at.
Yes, having just enough perfectionism to ensure top quality work, but not so much as to create reluctance, thinking it won't be good enough. But when you engage long enough with the work then the precious flow creates a perfect work of art
Is anyone else completely transfixed by that green bar in the back thats jumping to the sounds of Peter?
you like blinking lights, eh?
@@indoorgangster yeah.. ever since that donkey kicked me in the back of the head..
i noticed it in the last video as well and couldn’t stop watching it
Actually I was distracted by that pink-purple-aura-thingy on the wall behind Peter 😵💫
Nope
I miss the brick wall. It was so wonderfully you, Peter. But hearty congrats on the new digs and setup 🤗
I like you man, and I like your commentary. I can find myself in it. And watching you create stuff and listening to your voice calms me🙃
Absolutely in love with the outcome!!! I’d love more watercolour/colour pencil videos if you’re happy making them!
Love to watch Peter explore other mediums. Amazing work! ☺️
I've had the first time in my life for a few months now that I'm lacking any inspiration to make anything at all. After seeing your video I see something more clear that I just have to start and see where I end up. Thank you for that.
Peter Palm.
Sipping the water out of the water pen really got me
I completely understand what you're talking about when you say you don't want to pressure yourself to create a piece of art. Just relaxing and creating is the fun. Love your personality and artwork!
One of my favorite paintings from you was your first watercolor! I got a HUGE print of it hanging in my hallway and it’s been there for about 4 years
Oh wow....lols? Peter, I get hiccups when I am excited about something. I almost felt them coming upon me when you opened and showed your colored pencils (I have the same set). Peter you do know that you can get water colour Pencils also ....right. and they combine lovely .look forward to maybe seeing this mixture soon.:)
So cool! I love using coloured pencils with watercolour paint and gouache :)
The editing touch while you were laying down the tape was a nice touch. Excellent work Peter!
The sound of the tape coming off the roll is delicious!
Looks like a still life of afternoon tea on the planet Zorp
I love Zorp in the summertime.
Never stop drawing Peter!

100%! Do what Mummy says!
You're my biggest inspiration Peter, thank you
I'm so glad you kept working thru the "ugly" stage. It's sooo inspirational to see such a good artist go thru the same things we go thru as beginners. This is such a cool piece! You killed it!!!
LOVE the voice over with the speedpaint. i want to be like you when i grow up.
Love it has a botanical look to it.
Because you're used to working with black ink your proces is different. With watercolors and colorpencils you have to layer. That's why your drawing starts to look better after you struggle through the first (patchy) fase.

That is really cool. Enjoy.
I really like it too.
That kind of swing between looking like a plate of sweets and someone's intestines...😂

Nice drawing as always Peter! You did before a drawing using watercolor and ink and it was 👌
My thoughts exactly! I think they go together well, also, friend. Thank ya for your informative perspective.
Unexpected masterpieces like to show up on dry erase boards.
Can't believe you almost tossed this one! When I saw it on insta, it struck me as a very cool piece right away! Loving the colors - I'm excited to see more
Man, Darvoid hooked you up on the watercolors!
He inspired me to do art. It's the least I could do.
Thanks so much for your videos, me and my mum are having a great time watching them while recovering from covid
I got into watercolor like a year ago....my first live is ink but I'm not artist with either lol. But messing with watercolor here and there has been so much fun!! The way it moves on wet watercolor paper is just awesome. Complete opposite of how ink is a hard, solid mark.....

Mummy Brown: YOU should be teaching this class. Good points, all.
Really Inspiring! Always glad to join the experience of your RUclips videos.
Watercolour and pencils mixed together is my absolute favourite mediums too work with together ! The best for both detail works and loose abstract stuff like you have done !
This video came exactly when I needed it. I feel motivated to be creative so ima make some art now. Thanks ✨
Me too !
I know what you mean. I got back into drawing this year after discovering Peter's channel.
Wow the art turned out amazing... love that you didn't like it at first but it became what it did
Most of my artworks go through an atrocious phase until I push through and make them work.
It’s really the fun part though :)

Peter, wait until you get your hands on, watt for it...water! color! pencils!
I love the way you transitioned through the abstract into a surreal vibe

I also tried acrylic paint and grease pencil, which was equal parts fascinating and frustrating.

I love it! Looks like i could stick my hand into it and squish all the little bloopy blops.
Why is weird and quirky just so darn attractive? 😜
You should have this medium mix another go - I see some very nice pieces in your future if you do. Love it
if you haven't tried them before I recommend acrylic ink, you get some really vivid colors with them and they are used like watercolors
Yes! 👍
My two favourite mediums!
So true, just keep going. Magic happens 😍
My favorite watercolour pencils are the Derwent Inktense, but I recently bought the Derwent Inktense Blocks and they are amazing and so satisfying, well worth trying, Peter, for intense colour activated with water 👍
this is giving me skifi icecream shop vibes. thank you for the video!
Reminds me of biology class learning the cells
That piece looks delicious! Like a banana split from the 9th dimension!

for me it's a depiction of how candy feels during a heatwave.
I left gummy bears in the glove box of my car one summer. this reminded me of that. what a bizarre eating experience that was...
I love when you use color!! looks gorg
It was worth the work! very nice painting Peter :)
Very inspiring ❤
I really like how this turned out, too. Great colors.
I love this!
Even your promotions are entertaining man, good job!
Definitely makes sense
I love it.
Peter I love u and I love ur cool cup
Beautiful.
So fun fact, they actually have colored pencils that ARE watercolors. You can draw with them and then add water to them as you like
After a long and work filled week, I really needed to relax to you and your art
Wow! Beauty. 👏🏻❤
Darvoid is a true gentlemen.
Inspirational 🙂. Will try your method. Cool. Yoz I'm not 80 degree. Haha.
Love you Peter
I've been watching since highschool n i absolutely adore this video 🥺
this is so lovely

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I sometimes take a nap to your ramblings. You have a Bob Ross way about you.
this is a pretty amazing video peter i have to say
This is awesome 😊
That was fun.
Thanks man
Lol the opening 😂
Color! Color!
Sooo artsy fartsy looking .. good job.
Hm, I shall have to try this sometime, nice suggestion! Maybe after #InkTober2022 though

Donde es Peter?
A lot of people use that leftover paint on the pallet. As the mother color.
I absolutely hated standardization test. They drained the life out of my body every single time. Because that’s too much information for one person to hold.
H20 and pencil do work together 🎉In the art world we call it mixed media 😊
💜
I call it "Digestion", but I think you framed it up side down.
Do it all the time. Lay in the WC, shade w. Pencils.
Try Inktense pencils and bars
