She started out as an introverted tomb raider
What's interesting is that this more sympathetic Barbara Ann Minerva is from a recent reimagining, but in her first appearance she started off more like an "Evil" Tomb Raider in 1987 -- years before Lara Croft even came out.
Curiously, one of the central criticisms for Tomb Raider has been her carelessness when it came to destroying and scavenging other cultural heritages -- basically being a colonial force. That entire trope belongs to what Cheetah was doing in her '87 iteration, but instead of being a hero she was called out for her blatant exploitation of other cultures and WW went on to stop her.
In a way, Cheetah anticipates Tomb Raider.

oh please! As if you’d watch every comic movie to be released. Yes, its great. But Cheetah is not for a movie of its own. Until Wonder Woman has become like the Batman and Superman productions.
The reaaon why I like Cheetah so much is her animalistic instinct. She is very similar to Wolverine going berserk. She is savage and aggresive and those claws are epic which are magic powered. Her fight outro in Injustice 2 shows how beast she is. No one else does berserker like her only Wolverine comes close.
Finally!!!!! I finally know why Cheetah hates Wonder Woman so much. Whether it be petty or personal there’s always a REASON why a villain hates a hero

Wow, how sad just like Medusa was cursed & turned into a gorgon because she was raped by a god & her worshopee Athena did nothing to help her & Barbara was tricked & used into going to an island & then be cursed because she wasn't a virgin now she is a half beast that is slowly losing her humanity. in the wonder woman 1984 movie, barbara makes a wish to be like diana but then loses her humanity, barbara makes another wish, barbara say's 'i dont wanna be like anyone, i wanna be number one, i wanna be an apex predator.' but in the comics she goes to africa and gets cursed by the plant god, and then turns into cheetah, the movie and the comics are different.

I’m not a professional writer, but to me it makes way more sense to associate Cheetah with Sekhmet, the ancient Egyptian goddess of magic, war and vengeance. The statues of Sekhmet show a woman with the head of a lion!!! She was pretty scary. In one Egyptian story, Sekhmet or Sachmet became so enraged with mankind’s evil that she almost destroyed the entire human race. Sachem is an Egyptian word meaning POWER or POWERFUL. Sekhmet means THE POWERFUL ONE or THE POWERFUL LADY. And goddess of wild cats, especially the lion. The perfect source of Cheetah’s power and personality in the story of Wonder Woman!!!

Barbara Anne Minerva has three origins if I remember correctly. This is the newest one. I still prefer the first one. It was the same, she became a bride of the Plant God... but willingly. Like it was her plan to be Urzkartaga's bride.
I like that origin better because it shows that WW's real enemy is not the Cheetah, but Barbara, and that makes her a bigger threat. She's not just muscle, nit just a feral beast. Even without the cheetah powers, her intelligence, schemes and experience in magical artifacts and myths are the real weapons agsinst Diana. That puts her in the same level with Luthor and Joker instead of just another physical fighter.
Absolutely, I prefer that one too.
It was co-created by George Peréz and Len Wein (Wolverine, Swamp Thing, editor of Watchmen) aand edited by Karen Berger (DC Vertigo, e.g. The Sandman, Constantine, Alan Moore's Swamp Thing etc.

@@flipk6486 Well when the film was first announced, WB's synopsis involved Diana and Barbara investigating the "Lost City of Urzkartaga" (around the time we had the first images and logos released -- one of the images, Ms. Wiig's first look as our favourite supervillain archeologist, featured her looking at a predominant plant which looks like Urzkartaga from the original comic book appearance).
WB has since removed that synopsis lol.
Wats annoying about the movie is they didn't use either of those origins, I prefer one of these cause the climax would've been better

Because they were in a rush to make a cash cow movie. Had they been not so lazy and cheap and instead sat down to plan a real sequel.

As a diehard cheetah fan I'd recommend googling her origins and I say origins cuz thier were three different women and a man who took the role as cheetah. And on Ebay you can find the comic mentioned for cheap. However I am attempting to collect all books on all three cheetahs. Hopefully that helps.

I really wished WW84 adapted this backstory of Cheetah instead on that Dreamstone sequence
I remember watching the challenge of the super friends back in 1978 because they had a woman going by the name cheetah who worked with the Legion of doom when she was in an episode called origins of the super friends because I remembered when she wanted to compete in the games along side of Diana and take the title of wonder woman, I remember seeing cheetah remove the costume revealing all of his beautiful blonde hair and she had a face to but back then I did not know what her name was until I played injustice part two for PlayStation 4 because I remembered wonder woman called out her real name which was then Barbara Ann Minerva and so this is how I knew who the cheetahs identity really was.

This seems to be the storyline the upcoming WW movie will use..(at least with the origin of cheetah) with some tweaks, judging from the latest trailer.
A great comedy movie of all time. I really had a good time watching wonder woman 2
Why in heck did they go coined her "Cheetah", instead of "Leopard" in the 1st place. Cheetahs are known only for their incredible speeds alone & not so much for their ferocity. I. mean they absolutely can be ferocious also, for they are largely wild, just as any other animal from the wild. Cheetahs are howevr essentially like the (figurative saying) "Push-Over" type of all 6 of the Big-Cat types. Bezides, Cheetah paws, were described as having claws that are either only mildly semi or not at all retractable, resembling rather more closer to those of canine or dogs' family of mammals. Such their claws are more worn from abrading with the ground & no longer as sharp or hooked like those of its other cousins. My wonder is, why then is it that Barbara in her altered "Were" -self, kept-on brandishing her 2 sets of seemingly razor sharp like claws ? Actually every others in the cat famly, do utilize their claws to good effect, Cheetahs howevr, being the only exception to the rule.

Because Diana has superspeed that a cheetah woman needs to keep up in battle & travel. A Leopard would be too slow. Also she's a she's a beast with godly superpowers not just a normal cheetah. she's a beastly cheetah amped-up version of a cheetah. and she also has a magic claws that cut Superman and turned him into a were cheetah that also almost killed him & the flash.
