Looked a lot more like U.S. Open Emma today. I thought she was too tired to win when her energy dropped off in that second set, but she picked it back up again. So great to see.
Good for her. That said, her opponent played poorly. In the last set Garcia was making one unforced error after another, and she did not seem to care.
It could have gone either way. That is why WTA is unpredictable.
Raducanu has great potential, but her ball striking is a little timid.
That was a great match to watch and Raducanu is showing some of that US Open form again. There’s a lot for the youngster to handle, being her first year on the tour. The usual route for players is through many months or years of the early rounds perfecting the craft and the fitness. Instead she flew over several hurdles last year, and is now getting prime court attention even ahead of some of the more seasoned pros. It’s a lot of pressure so respect for her to be shining here in this match.

I was worried that Emma had lost that spark and free swinging energy that propelled her to victory in the US open. Must admit the matches that she lost recently she looked nervous and tense and not at all comfortable. Perhaps she is settling in with her new coach at last and hopefully this latest success will spur her on to more consistent wins.
Her backhand and ground strokes are a joy to watch. More matches under her belt and she will be a force to reckon with in the future.Well done !!!!!
Agree, and add that she has grown, she is physically bigger and stronger which was always going to be essential for her to match it consistently with the others.

@@gregbarratt7161 yep. if she can manage to be a solid top 20-25 player is good still, even if she doesnt win any more grand slams. Im sure she didnt have such expectations prior to her us open win - she was well outside the top 100 and just qualifying for events.

This is the best Garcia has played in a long time I think. Unfortunately for her it’s the best Radacanu has played since the US Open also.
She’s got the talent, for sure. Needs to keep her head down and keep working hard. The winning streaks will eventually return. Garcia was not an easy opponent, she beat Simona Halep easily in straight sets just last month in Qatar.

Garcia and Zhang looked really good last week indoors in Lyon. Both didn't fair well in the outdoor conditions. Emma played well, but Garcia's play was off today. Hopefully Emma racks up a few wins.

That's more like it from Emma - looked freer and more assured. Carrying the weight of being the US Open champion must take some time to get used to emotionally and mentally which can have physical impacts. Great to see her playing like this again.

AMAZING
Emma played even better than her US Open. She played brilliantly in the USO, also she was unknown then and her opponents didn't have a plan to play against her. Now every coach has analyzed her every move and stats. Garcia is a very powerful and aggressive player, Emma was able to put her game together and beat Garcia. It was a very impressive match. If she continues to play like this and is healthy, we'll see something big this year too.

@@alasdairsmith7116 I didn't remember the tennis community gave Coco Gauff some slack when she barely turned pro and already on the spotlight since she's 15. I myself dislike Coco sometimes but she shown character and potential. Emma needs to prove that her win wasn't a "coincidence", not just to the fans, but to herself to. Because trust me, that self-doubt, it will consume her unless she solidifies herself
@@ichsannurzaman6904 No many didn't, but they should have. The same argument applies to her - expectations were lumped on her too soon, before she was given time to adjust to the week in, week out life of the tour. People just need to chill and realise that adjustment takes time imo.

Radacanu does very well on the front foot. Been noticing lots of points lost off the back foot. But somehow, she's still not really in the category of ultra aggressive. If she can figure out that part of her game quickly she will at least get a handful of good tournaments in this year, which should be enough to keep her within the top 30 once her Wimbledon and US Open points fall off.

I thought emma's ball striking and fitness level looked much more like her us open triumph performance and some of her backhand passing shots were sublime.
Great fight from Emma! Garcia is not an easy opponent and has shown great form in the last few tournaments having both a lot of fight & a dangerous forehand.
