I've had the same amp for years and thought it was just mine that had the HI and LO output wired backwards. Apparently the backward switch wiring is a systemic issue. It is a very low-drive input amplifier... it takes very input to overload the final RF stage. I use mine with an HTX-10 that normally has a 7w output. It was a chore getting the output down to about 3-watts and even that is a bit too much drive for the amp. The other thing I think about are the harmonics this thing generates. I've never had a reason to crack the case, or look at the signal through the o'scope, but I'm guessing that there is zero low-pass filtration on the RF output.
Thanks for the video. I have the same exact amplifier and it works pretty well for such a cheap and wideband amp. while i was successful in making contacts both locally and DX with it i decided to stuck it behind an antenna tuner and have had much better reports and over better results.
I have notoced the Waveform they generate isn't a sine wave. It would generate a more peaky signal even with a lower average. (Harmonics would be the Concern).
Thanks alot for the upload. Ive spent a year researching the high low button being released reversed on this exact model. The box insert said one thing, the seller webaite said another. I have the same radio shack meter as you and it confirms the button is reversed. Im puting in 1.5 watt deadkey from a cobra 25. Ill have to open her and turn the output power down to 1. I saw another video by 183getdown he puts a better resistor padding on the input but i don't think he knows the button is reversed.
What will it do on SSB? I never run Am anymore nobody's on it only SSB and I see these amps for 120 bucks on eBay I would like to get one as a backup to my 500. Great video is always brother
@@577buttfan I ended up getting a kl503 as a backup to my old 1970s amp. I was going to order one of those off brand ones but I wasn't sure if they were reliable Thanks for the info though
Carier goes up on swing modded radio. Might do better with galaxy with out swing kit. With padding on ,I can run 3 watts does not back up on mfj tuner with internal dummy load. 50 watt dead key.
Anytime Ive added a swing mod the carrier goes down(thats the purpose for adding them)especially on a transformer modulated rig, but the forward power does go up slightly on some radios. On all the bipolar mudulated radios there is a VR to adjust carrier. Thanks for watching.
Padding is a set resistance on the input of the amp to lower drive from the driving source or radio entering the amp..so say if you have a radio that keys more watts than the amp can handle the padding may get you in the ball park or may not, every radio and amp should be matched by a tech so not to be over driven. Thanks for watching!!
Hi, I know something about it. With the fan you can work from 250Watts withtout problem, un this case the temperature is 12 degree C. , it's very cool. I have it since 1 month
I know nothing about amps. Never had one. I have a galaxy 959 that will dead key 2 watts with power all the way down and does 32w peak power. What's a good small amp for me ?? I'd like to have 200w pep or so
The Bias Pon these amps is Terrible for SSB , It's ok ish for AM , But for SSB it's awfull , A real raspy transmission that's clippy , I had to modify mine and redo the Bias , It's now much better on SSB , Still some slight raspy-ness , But much better and much cleaner on the scope .
yes oke have one here gives 70 watts output with 5 w in...also repaird a zetagi b501 p recently with 2x mrf 422 in it(bought 2 mrf 422 maycom in china used…)don t get warm only 5 -10 watts in....100 -300 out...it s a 24 volt device.....ded key on am is amazing...
Hi Sir, I recently acquired a BJ 300 that is a copy of this or other Linear. When keying in LO my Radio (Yaesu 857) gives SWR warning in Hi no warning. Any idea why ? Pls Help.
For some reason the tune on tha amp is changing in low power. Ive seen this happen because of coax jumper length. These amps are thrown together with very little care especially the clones.I would just run it on high.I ran all my amps wide open that way the padding doesnt get hot.
Dang, you sound like a dude I would have loved to have hanged out with back in the late 70s / early 80s. Maybe could have sat down and smoked a blunt or hosed down a couple of beers, and had ourselves a really good pow wow...LOL. When I was teen, I remember buying that red amp on layaway from a Greek electronics store on 45th Street, New York City. That store is not there any more. There were a lot of Greek electronic stores on that block back in the day. As with the rest of Times Square, everything has since gone out of business, been relocated, or torn down for redevelopment and to make room for restaurants as per city code enforcement. I am truly fascinated that they still make these things. Unfortunately, I didn't have all of the bells and whistles for testing out my hookup, so it was not long before I blew the finals on my midland radio. How did you roll it back so that only one watt goes in? By the way, what's RMS? Peace!
This was a long time ago lol..i do a swing mod where the carrier gets lowered without losing any forward power..I forget the RMS or average. Peace bro!!! watched it again that was RMS bird watts :)
Dang, always peeps pushing fm, but never pick a channel or start a net. 11 meter simplex would be nice, but FM has a nice sound but, 3 major flaws: 1. Louder static 2. Flat, higher carrier on tx 3. Wider carrier, just eating power, and will hear a silent carrier between s-0 to s-3 then very harsh until s-5. Good for solid local, squelch up comms, but fringe or dx, IS NOT DE WEY. NO. i still try tho.
Almost looks like the Baojie BJ-300 Plus Power Amplifier

Nice review on the easy bake oven.
You can grill hot dogs on this thing in SSB :)
I have a later version and on AM it cant be driven by more than a 1/4 watt!!! On low, the swrs go up over a 3! Got any hints or ideas?
The 1104 is a 2 meter device ..yes it will work at 3-30 ..but it's designed for vhf... It's 75 watts .. very very low drive
I have notoced the Waveform they generate isn't a sine wave.

(Harmonics would be the Concern).
Its just a toy amp geared toward the average CB user.At its price point I wouldn't expect it to be exceptionally pure.
I'm fixing to pick up a 200 watt off Amazon apparently these do ok
Every had any issues

Hell i cant even run mine with anything over a 1/4 of a watt!!! These amps are JUNK!!!!!
Do these have to be converted? On the rm Italy website it says 28-30 so would it be out of resonance on 11 meter?
Im not sure Pat never had one of these NIB...if so its very easy to do.
The last couple 200/203,s where ready to go on 27.000mHz OOTB.
Enjoying The Sun 577-Jersey Customs ok. I figure they’re marketing these towards CB but due to legality they have to say 28-30
Yes,they are all marketed toward chicken band,if you need a hand converting it just let me know and well help ya out buddy!!@@MET90LX

Im not to familiar with this amp as i have only had it here once. The little brother KL203P does about the same on SSB as AM.

Use it on ssb. Only mode worth using anyway. Fuck a carrier.
Yeah, use it however you like bro.
thinking about getting one of these. so the left switch is power, middle switch is AM/SSB, and the right switch is padding? whats padding?

Also very clean on SSB.

watched it again that was RMS bird watts :)
how many amp power supply would you need to run this at home?
I use a 35 amp pyramid
DO THE MATH, boy.
(in order to obtain 150 W from 13.8 V, you need at least 11 A)
Bird
I am getting this amp with the fan option, does it work between 3 and 30 mhz as they advertise. I will use with my G90
It should. You may have to convert it by moving a jumper inside.Youll have to search up the directions.
@@577buttfan where can i have those details, any idea. thanks
