Michele, as someone that has enjoyed watching you over the years and even though I may not be able to comment on everyone of your videos, I’ve never had a problem with your sound, lighting or video quality. I really appreciate you doing what you’re doing to make sure that the content you put out is of the highest quality, but from my perspective, nothing needs to be changed (except seeing you everyday 😅). Keep doing what you’re doing. ❤❤❤

Michele.. Think about it like this. Your anxiety is coming from a really good place. You're anxious because you really care. Everyone would benefit from a 'boss' who really cares. Once you've gotten your new routine down with her and get comfortable together the anxiety will lift. Don't beat yourself up for simply seeing the responsibilities you've gained (from working very hard) and recognising that they matter. X

So much packed into this vlog!!! As a longtime Michele fan-girl (hah!), I think you are so thoughtful to keep your viewers' thoughts on sound/quality in mind, but ultimately, I am soo sad it stressed you out! I agree w/ the beauty of vlogs being more casual/ not as polished, etc. On a different note, I completely understand the feeling of having an assistant that is equal parts amazing and equal parts challenging. As a former marketing director, I had a colleague that wasn't an assistant but actually a manager level - so fully capable, brilliant, quick-thinking, but the training, data dumping what was already in my head and second nature to someone that didn't grasp what I could so swiftly do myself without thinking -that was so hard! Ultimately, it was a matter of scheduling time with them to really get to see how they processed things, trying to figure out how they mange tasks, and it wasn't an easy road, but it's worth it

For me, I’m a introvert who can manage to appear like an extrovert so I get what you mean. I also think that I understand what you mean with your growing pains right now. Whenever I’ve made a stretch in my career or personal life there’s a while when in my head I say “what have I done?” 😂 1) It’s going to be ok. 2) Your assistant’s livelihood is not all up to you. There are parts of it where your success and her employment are tied together sure but it’s not all on you. Some of it is on them. Some of it is just circumstance and timing. So give yourself a break. 3) Maybe it’ll help if you research some employee onboarding checklists / processes and maybe checkout some management books? I’m reading “Wait, I’m the boss” right now and I’ve been managing people for nearly a decade. 🙂

Michele, I’m all the way from South Africa and I’m not even a beauty enthusiast. I’d stopped watching advertisement-rich content and stumbled on your Vlog as you were talking about your wallpaper that you put up in your home. Since then I’d really enjoyed your light approach to everything you share and I’d just need a willing subject and I think I could do a pretty decent job applying their make-up 😂😂😂.
Point is, throughout your process, I’d also been in my own process of really stripping things down, emotionally, mentally, trying to distill what’s really important to me, without compromising spending time on things that interest me.
I enjoy your content because it’s not driven by over-saturation. I find it aspirational and relatable. As someone who understands, personally, that life for me is really about the under-curated imperfections, I find your effort commendable and the ‘interactions’ realistic and truly refreshing.
Thanks for putting out content driven by authenticity, and please don’t change for any other reason other than what suits you.
Loads of love, from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️

Hello Michele, I'm also an introvert and once we decide to open ourselves up, we become very productive. It's a learning curve. Just give her more responsibilities as she grasps what you have taught her. Don't force everything on her at once or she might bolt. Also, don't stress yourself out because you have someone you are responsible for. Take it one day at a time until you'll are in a smooth groove.

Sound quality is one of the reasons I don’t care about ever getting a big channel. I don’t want to have to worry about those things. Maybe if I started younger but starting in my late 50s that was never a priority. I don’t ever watch anyone for sound and lighting. I watch because I like and trust the person talking to me. Don’t let the ones who complain get to you. You didn’t need them anyway. Xoxo 😘

    @ivym.6388 Год назад +3

What a sweet set of reflections! What struck me about your low-level anxiety is that it is such proof of what a good soul you are. Try to remind yourself that, even though it may feel like it, you are not responsible for (I mean guaranteeing) your assistant's livelihood, any more that she is obligated to stay in this job forever. And it IS a big change to go from working completely alone to having someone with you most of the time. But you're right to call this a transition - it will pass and improve. You're also right that the most important thing in finding an assistant is that she is bright and interested in learning - that is 100% of the battle. It does occur to me that, part of the time-consuming aspect of this is that there probably is no "manual" you can refer her to. It might be worth asking Zeta to keep a draft of how-to-do-what, as she's learning, just so you can start to establish a guide for any additional employees you take on (!). Like you, I am an introvert and love being alone, and the pandemic, with its switch to mostly remote work has allowed me to do that, even though I manage a small staff. All this is to say, your reaction to this is completely normal, very mature and shows what a caring, responsible person you are. BTW, I think your videos look and sound fine. Keep up the GREAT work. ❤❤❤

Oh Michele, I know recognizing this anxiety is tough, but try to remember, you aren’t actually responsible for Zed’s livelihood, that’s a story you’re telling yourself, Zed is responsible for their livelihood and they chose to take the opportunity you gave them for now. As you guys grow into a rhythm, I’m sure you’ll stabilize more and more. Just keep challenging that story you’re telling yourself (which powers the anxiety) and hopefully you’ll grow past that in a healthy way.

hey Michele, I think as a small businesses owner, hiring the right person is crucial. It is also a big commitments. Before let anyone come in you need to know what you want, a business partner can bring value to the table which you don't have and share a significant % of your total revenue or a helper. If it's a helper, you just need a contractor and not necessarily full time. But if you are sure the partner can for example bring your total income increase more than 20% you would happen to give him/her a significant chuck of your revenue. It is about value add or a clean lady kid of helper.

Teaching your assistant is an investment in time that will pay off over time with you having more time for yourself. You can work with a mentor or visit a therapist to deal with your anxiety which reflect your concern about the unknown. It's normal. But it's also ok for you to ask for help that is not your assistant.

I wonder if a beautiful glass-fronted cabinet would work to store and showcase your jars of brushes? You describe them as “a collection”, so I would treat them as such. Picture a spa storing hand towels and soaps or a luxury store displaying goods or even a museum cabinet of specimens. Alternatively: shelves - with the same approach of displaying them beautifully.

Audio is not easy. People have whole careers dedicated to it, so don't get down on yourself. I think one of the tricky things is that what sounds great on one person's audio system might sound completely different on someone else's sure to different equipment or audio settings, so it's very difficult to come up with a universal perfect sound. I think it sounds great. In fact i didn't even notice the change. But my hearing is also crap from being in a band and going to see shows in the 90s. Lol

I fully understand your concern! I have been employed for about 20 years and at the age of 41 I left Italy for China. I opened my tiny office after six months and hired my first employee! o mammamia what times! she was very young but already very prepared. Transferring my needs was a difficult process because I was Italian and she was Chinese and they spoke English! it took time for both, but it was a success, but my anxiety increased, I felt guilty if she stayed in the office working while I went to dinner! and in the following years my employees became almost 60, but I couldn't get rid of that sense of responsibility I had towards them and their families! Long story short, I'm 70 today. I have been back in Italy for 5 years and all of them are still my family! but now I live with anxiety and also with a sense of responsibility towards those who have shared part of her life with me! Thanks Michelle! Annarosa xoxo

Girl, I cover entertainment-red carpet for almost 13 years and I’ve freelanced for some media outlets as a contributor, most of us are on our own in doing the editing and submitting content from the red carpet events. It was draining and stressful at times to get content submitted in timely manner. I had dreamed about having an assistant and editor readily behind the scenes without worrying about getting on the train in NYC to get home to NJ to do an all-nighter to edit my images. A colleague of mine does it in his car at a garage in NYC. It’s super insane but that’s how we roll. But I learned that those who have assistants are paid hired editors by the agency and in order for us to have that luxury is to become staff level which means giving up all rights of your content to the agency and get paid twice more than whatever we’re normally paid. I look back in the early period of my career, I had a student assistant but at that time, it was for his class credit and it was only temporary. But paying a professional editor or an assistant in general is expensive and time consuming as a freelancer. And having to share your space and assets with someone can be nerve wrecking and an adjustment. I’ve been a one woman show covering entertainment for more than a decade and I’m ready to retire! So I feel your growing pain but you are blessed to be able to afford to hire an assistant and you would t have to sweat the small stuff that you can do this at home. For me, my reputation is on the line and getting published is crucial in the industry. So there’s pressure for us as photojournalists to submit content on the clock for celebrity news. But it has been a very rich experience for me nonetheless. Knowing what I know now, I should have pursue staff position in order to have an assistant provided by the agencies that I can lighten the load and not have to experience a tremendous burn out! But anyways, you got this Michele and I think you’re doing great so far. So happy to see sweet Miss Butters! It’s been awhile to see her little cute face 🩵

(I am surprised about the things people will complain about). Second, as a fellow introvert, when I started managing/training one person, I also had a really tough time for a few months. After they were trained up, and started working independently, it got much better, because I didn't have to spend my whole day talking and instructing (which was exhausting for me). It gets better! Put in the work now, make sure to take time to yourself when you need it, and set boundaries from the get-go. Maybe it's Michele's tea-time where you go downstairs every day at 2pm for quiet time.

Hello Michele. Sorry for my bad English as it is not my first language. I had a lot of makeup and brushes, as first as a painter, painting art teacher and than as an painting restaurer in Florence Italy, than I felt in love with makeup and than bought more brushes... than we moved from Florence to Canada and lost all the makeup brushes I had. Some Rephr, some others that my japanese work collegue brought me from Japan. I just have now what I had in my luggage for the travel than the rest had been mixed with boxes in a container and someone in NY have them. Fortunatly I have all the painting brushes but all my makup brushes are lost. It is refreshing to me seing your collection. Thanks. I had an assistant for maybe 5 years, I think the biggest help I had to have someone I had to kind of take was to have a list of project I had that I wanted her to take part of.... Making the other persone feel that she is part of... give her responsabilities, make sure I planned what I wanted her to do, tell her what was shourt, medium and long time goals helped me to remove the stress I had

Hi Michele: I work alone at home and have to go into our corporate office about once a month and end up working around others. I find that I get so much more done alone at home. Have you tried having your assistant come in for working together as needed, then the assistant working from home doing behind the scenes work? We use MS Teams which allows quick conf calls/face to face and shared screen access if needed. That may free up some time alone when you need your own space for creativity or deep thinking. I would stress too if I had an assistant,

As one commenter suggested, have your assistant work remotely and run errands, at least part of the time; the brushes could be stored above in a cabinet with the most used on tiered acrylic shelves on the tabletop below. I would want to keep my home to myself as my space, my safe place, my sanctuary. I wouldn’t be able to have an assistant there. Maybe part of your house could be turned into a studio (with outdoor access) that separates the two spaces. Then make sure you keep regular hours except for travel.

I have been reviewing candles on RUclips since I was 12 (just turned 26) and Diptyque is my favorite, knew they were opening a shop in Forum Shops and found you. You’re such a gem and easy to watch, I feel like we are friends even though you have no idea who I am! 😂 Thanks for being a companion on my workouts, car rides, and cleaning the house! 😅 I now found a new hookup for all my candles (Gus) and for chic fun style to watch (you)! ❤❤

I completely understand the weight of being responsible for an employee’s livelihood! I just had to close my small business after 8.5 years due to the economy where I was responsible for many employees and I can safely say , in a small business setting ( I would consider RUclips a small business) if you are someone who cares in general, that weight you feel doesn’t really go away, but instead turn it into a drive for success. Now, not only do you need to do well for yourself, but you need to be able to help other families as well. That’s what I did , and it helped turned that “ burden, or anxiety” into feeling like I was doing Alittle bit of good, for a few members of our community. I find this also interesting because now, after loosing our physical business, we have switched gears and our social media business has become more prevalent and I have begun thinking about hiring a personal assistant and thinking about having someone in my home and personal space is a different though too!! So I appreciate your thoughts on that. ❤

It looks like you need stepped shelves so that you can group them in understandable rows. Even better if they were slanted so that it is easier to see and pull out the exact one you want. They really look like craft supplies, and they are your craft -- or more accurately, your art.

Cant offer help on your tech/transition issues but I have watched your videos for probably 4 years+ since you were Infront a window to my first chikuhodo brush to my first blue squirrel hair to first ND palette and then every ND palette after (all discovered thru your videos) the list can go on but I still love your videos regardless - I think it's your personality I love that overrides the technical aspects of everything else. I hope things gets easier for you from now on ❤️❤️

Ahh Michele, what a lovely video. Like so many others have said, your videos are super high quality 🥰I often struggle to not focus on the 99% positive, and I can tend to focus on the 1% negative, so I get it. But listen to us: you're doing great. You are great. You set the standard for so many others 💚💚
Well done also for acknowledging the anxiety, which is a reasonable and understandable way to feel. There is so much good advice and support in the comments that I've skimmed through, so I don't think I could add much more. It can be stressful to have an employee - it's a really big step up with your business! it's also amazing and brilliant and a thing to celebrate. I know you know all of this. The most important thing you've done though i think is to be honest with yourself and give light to how you're feeling. Because you're kind, and thoughtful, and really good at what you do, I have a hunch that your anxiety will slowly dissipate, perhaps you might not even notice it going. If you've not done so already, perhaps it might help to have an open and honest conversation with your lovely assistant, and let her know how you're feeling. Share your feelings, and share not just the anxiety but the celebration and growth.
Above all - you got this, you amazing, brilliant, kind, thoughtful, hard working, lovely person 🥰🥰

I can definitely relate to the brushes "saga". Last week, I set about doing all the things you have done, ie : small eye brushes (pencil and liner) in one receptacle etc etc. To say I was stunned/horrified at the sight of numerous jars filled with an assortment of brushes is somewhat of an understatement. However, after using "the system" all week, I can happily report that I'm very appreciative it 😀.
Oh Michele, I can emphasise with you regarding the uncomfortable necessity of sharing self sacred time and space. I believe that once your assistant grasps what is required from her, she will happily get on with the work, thus leaving you in isolated peace 😉🤞

I know you were talking more big picture about being responsible for their livelihood, but even considering the day to day makes me a bit uncomfortable. On one hand, I’d love to have someone who could take on the tasks of my small business that I don’t enjoy, but I know I would feel I had to be “on” all the time having someone in my space and that would make me feel anxious.

Hello Michelle - I have worked in Property Management for over 20 years now. On most of the Board of Directors there is training involved and they don’t agree with how it LEGALLY works. Also, they have one to two year term limits. So, I train, finally get them to understand the process and then their term is up. So, rinse and repeat! Plus, a year ago I started up a BRAND NEW role with a National, Publicly Traded Company (based in Las Vegas, I live in South Carolina) and have successfully worked this role in that year. The newer people hired are all struggling and I KNOW it is because they don’t have my industry knowledge and there is lack of training. (I LOVE to train but, nobody has asked me to do so.) So, the time you are investing in training IS time well spent. Your growing pain is normal! And, like you said, Zetta has a fabulous attitude towards the work and in my experience that is most of the battle. A little tip though, is to set up FUN challenges for Zetta to accomplish that might make her job easier. Maybe she can create a clip on camera tripod onto the target cart to get film footage while walking. See if she would be interested in coming up with some newer solutions to the way you have always completed your tasks, etc. Those are just some examples. I’m not just talking about making the job faster, either. She may have a way of making something more profitable or useful in different ways. I hope you see this because I just got back home from Las Vegas (Corporate Office) and the training they provided has me feeling recharged professionally as well so, my intention is to send some positive energy your way! Give Butters some love from me. ❤ Btw, I think your videos are amazing and I enjoy watching them. The sound quality is great!
