Hey, I'm an A&P student at Flabob. Cool video, those tire marks on the runway threshold are from an event Hoonigan did called This Vs. That pretty cool. Apparently, they do it a few times a year. And to add to your video Flabob has 3 DC-3s and many fly in for maintenance since theres a mechanic there that is one of the few who still works on DC-3s helping keep history in the air👍🏻
Oh no way, that is so cool. We had no idea you guys worked on DC-3s there. I guess that is why there are some DC3s outside parked. 😁As far as the car events, that means you guys have way more events that we even knew about, we are definitely going to have to keep up with the calendar there. Thanks so much for letting us know🙏
@@michaelsullivan3581 Thanks Michael! You are definitely right, the cafe is delicious, either I was very hungry that day or it was so good because I ate every bit of my breakfast 😂
Yes, that was the same art Scholl, and many other famous pilots. He was based at flay bar for many, many years, and when he left us, he was at rialto airport
@@outsidethecockpit I would tell the student to take me to PSP, RIV, SBD, or RAL and then suddenly divert them to Flabob. This was for the advanced students nearing the end of their flight training in our ASTARs.
I just had my annual done at Flabob for our 182. I didn’t know there were procedures on the website. When I arrived it was a ghost town so I just flew straight in to 24. I hope that wasn’t a big issue. I always use the pattern if there is any traffic at all, but straight in does keep you out of the Riverside airspace.
@@mafp22w Yeah I don’t think that was an issue at all. I think the most important part is just reporting your position. Ill tell you a quick embarrassing story, right after I got my PPl I rented a plane from the school but cloud bases were 2500-3000. I was so worried about clouds I flew around the hill. Then I saw a plane holding short and realized I made no calls. I plopped the plane and was so embarrassed, we just went straight back home.🤦♂️ Point is as long as you don’t do that, Im sure you are fine.😁
Announcing is the important part, but it's difficult to see around the mountain when you are in the pattern and you never know if the person in the pattern has a functional radio.
Amazing video very helpful on where the transient parking areas are at. I'm definitely subscribing now and can you please do Lompoc (KLPC) I've always wanting to go there but can't seem to find transient parking there.
@@Advent2k2 Thank you so much! 🙏 You got it! We have had lompoc on our list for a minute but you just made us prioritize it! Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe we will try to go during a launch🚀
So first the FAA official Airplane Flying Handbook Chapter 8 answer says to fly the pattern at 500 or above. Personally I use 1000 at my airport but that's just a personal choice. So back to your questions now. I don't cross the numbers, I try to keep it to as regular shape of a pattern as possible, just as if you were departing. With these untowered airport, to avoid traffic is truly see and avoid and you hope that the other plane reports there position and even better has ADSB but since those are not requirements at some airports, keeping your eyes out is key. If you happen to hear someone departing right as you are on the upwind, you can either do a 360 if no one is behind you or extend your upwind. Best piece of advice I can ultimately give you, definitely go practice this with a CFI because in flying, it's not about the situations you know, it's about those that you hadn't planned for and a CFI is an amazing tool to help you learn and keep you safe when things don't go as planned. Write down all the scenarios you are unsure about and fly it with them, it'll make you more confident and ultimately safer. Lastly, good luck on your training! You're already asking such good questions so it sounds like you won't have a problem at all passing. If you get a chance, let us know when you passed.
I flew to Flabob yesterday morning. SoCal Approach let me fly right over the runways at March. I wonder if SoCal would let me arrange for flight following before departure?
@@ralphstrahm4429 I don’t think they will from the ground but that is a great question. I know tower usually coordinates with Departure when at a towered airport. Im 99% sure they wont but Ive been wrong about many things I was sure I was right about😆

Wait a minute. He said in the video runways 24 - 09. It's runways 24 - 06
I got my PPL here. Mt Rubidoux makes for a very easy target for configuring and I have difficulty landing at normal airports 😂
@@JoshuaTootell Hahaha, I use to have exactly that since its always windy at Corona, my worst landings use to be when it was winds calm😂🤦

I'd recommend to anyone flying in to roll out and check for traffic. Just in case people are doing a straight in or going around the mountain.
