All this and comments so true! Leggett and Platt are nasty to say the least.
My right side motor ( head raise right side ) gave out while it was under the second part of their 3 part warranty. We live on an island without the normal fix it type people. When I got a woman on the phone, she asked me “ what’s broken? “ I told her the right side head won’t raise, but everything else is working, the left side tries to raise. She told me I had to get the bed on it’s side to take pictures to find out what is broken. We talked awhile. I asked her if I could fix it myself. She said yes. I asked her if it was possible to find out what’s broken without putting the bed on its side. She said no. She said to email and call her when I’ve sent pictures.
Time went, this was the very last thing I wanted to tackle. We went to the mainland for awhile. A few months after getting back to the island I called back to see if there was another option. When I explained what was happening ( to a different woman ) she said, “ your right side head motor is bad “. Then told me I was out of warranty so would have to pay the full price. I argued that I had called before. She said she saw that I had, but didn’t buy the part then. We argued awhile and finally I asked her how much the part would be. She said 58.00 including shipping. I caved and just had them send me the part. It just arrived today. I was excited to fix it tomorrow, until I unboxed it to find it is broken! They bubble wrapped the motor, but did not bother to wrap a plastic end piece in cardboard and it broke in half!! I believe they all are very stupid and that is why they are so miserable ( to deal with ).

That plastic cover is like a ticking time bomb. It seems to be needed to be installed in order for this actuator to work and through time of moving around in the bed the head raised, the cover eventually fails. There is little support and these cheap plastic covers that goes over the torque tube of the bed are kept secured by very close tolerance Its like stepping on a board with the edges at thousands of an inch to the edge of a cliff. Until the edge gives out. They obviously designed it that way. And you can't swap the front cover to the read cover because they are keyed and grooved differently to slide in. It's pure junk. I would have never purchased this bed had I known this. I cant find any parts anywhere not even the covers.

Well, I have this same set up. Have for over 15 years. Have fixed and replaced motors, covers, the vibrating motor things.(and 2 remotes after the original)To say the least, it is no fun to have to deal with this on an infrequent basis. However, I did not come here to gripe. I was hoping you would show the repair solution to the exact situation you are in. I have done the whole motor before, but not just 1 end of it. Damn rod is not seating down into place so I can just slide the replacement cover over top. And yes, you probably over spent, since that problem you highlighted is a 20 dollar item to replace. Platt don't sell them anymore, but with a little patience, you can still find them on line. HME Medical Shop is where I just picked mine up. It was fast and inexpensive compared to buying a whole new motor. Guess I will just remove the WHOLE motor(praying I don't break the other cover while doing so) and re-attach it that way. Drats. The good news is, even if these components break(which obviously they don't last forever)it is still a flat bed. Strong frame. Mattress doesn't need the gadgets to conform to your body. When you consider starting all over again and buying a whole new adjustable frame is well over $1300 bucks, not including the fee for someone to replace it for you, 15+ years of replacement parts is a deal. Although, if you factor in chiropractor fees for fixing your body from lifting this sucker every so often, it might not be a bargain.

Update. Exactly as shown in your video of the broken cover on your motor, I had a sheet metal guy at work cut a square plate. The forward part of the plate butts up to the diagnal piece on the casing for support. He then drilled 4 holes on the casing and put inserts crimping in place for screws. And of course 4 holes for the plate cover itself. So I put motor in place and screwed the cover sheet metal plate in place. I then secured it with extra reinforcement using duct tape. Yes those cheap covers on the motor takes your load when you raise the bed and lay down. This is why they eventually fail. I used a jack to raise bed for better access and secured with jack stands. The motor is in great shape but if the cover breaks as shown in your video, you either need a new cover which good luck in finding, or design a fix as mentioned I saved chalk full of dough. You can too. Don't let the man get you down. Don't waist money on a motor if motor is still good. You can check the motor after you remove it. You'll know if it's good. A bit tricky installing motor, once installed used jack to hold it in place to slide covers in place and screw in place the repair cover. Ops check is good. Wife happy now bed works fine. Time will tell if this is a good lasting repair. I think it will be.

Leggett and Platt has the worst customer service dept I have ever experienced! You wait on hold at least 15 to20 minutes just to speak with someone. And then they become very rude when you ask a question about their warranty. I would never, ever buy another of their beds. How they stay in business is a miracle!

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I heard a loud pop and found that the cover broke just like you are showing on the head recline side. So the question is why did this happen? can i still use without the cover and where can I purchase the cover? And can I use tie wraps or some other hack? Agreed. Straight garbage for a very expensive bed.

Sorry to hear yours broke too. It happened because the bed motor is poorly designed. I don't think you can still use it without the cover, since even more damage could then occur. I don't know where you can purchase a new cover. But even if you did manage to purchase a new cover, there is still the risk that the new cover will break just like the old one broke. Unfortunately, I don't know of any hack to fix the problem. These beds are so poorly built.

@@johnm7056 thanks for your reply. I was thinking of designing a cover made of sheet metal in place of the cheezy plastic cover but I see that the slot where the cover slides into is designed to create confusion so that you don't fix it. The groove where you slide the cover on the right side is opposite from the left. So I would have to make a bend. This is a very poor design no doubt. I've only had this bed for 6 years and one of the legs broke off. I have been using a car ramp tied n its place and it works well. I paid 2500 for this bed. Worse investment ever to be honest. I can't find any parts online so I'm going to go creative on this. The parts online are not even the same nor has the massage function nor the cordless setup.. Obviously the cover is designed to break and not fix. They just want you to buy a new bed or motor. Its criminal. . .

Had the exact same thing happen and was able to repair it with several medium (8” or so) tied together and several large zip ties (3’ or so) and it has been holding up for quite some time now.

Are you sure you just didn't need to replace that broken plastic cover (called Okimat motor cover). The same thing happened to me, and I am searching how to troubleshoot)

I can't find anyplace that sells those covers. The only place that sold it was OUT OF STOCK and they wanted 24.95 plus shipping and not even tell you which cover it was. The two covers, one for the head and one for the foot side are totally different designs. These are a lock and key designed for you not to fix on your own.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET A REMOTE FOR OVER TWO WEEKS AND CAN'T EVEN GET ANYONE TO ANSWER THE PHONE OR EMAIL. CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. I WENT TO ONE OF THEIR DEALERS AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE CUSTOMER SERVICE. WHILE IN ONE OF THEIR STORES I NOTICE THAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU THE PRICE OF THE BED, THEY SHOW MONTHLY PAYMENTS LIKE YOUR BUYING A CAR. HOW MANY HONEST CAR DEALERS DO YOU KNOW????

This is so sad, but you made me laugh anyway! A number of years ago, Leggett & Platt advertised that their beds came with a "3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty". I am not making this up.
