That's the point, it doesn't matter if you know. You HAVE no chance to leave, because you'll being rotting in a prison cell underground forever if not killed. Jaern in that moment saw a 0% chance that anything could go wrong, given they're just two kids and he had a literal god crystal made by Arceus, and Rayquaza on his side
He also then gave you a chance to survive by fighting someone you were already prepared to fight. Although I guess you were doing the cult thing at that time, but still.

Not gonna lie, the ‘NameHere’ joke actually got a laugh out of me. It was so out of place for the incredibly edgy tone this game was going for. But I think that’s what makes the joke even funnier since it just comes out of left field.
in fairness at the start of the game you get to choose if you want the edgy storyline or a more basic one thats much more like normal pokemon. it doesnt change the story much, but it just removes the murder and such

3:55 I tried to show this game to my boyfriend, he's super good at pokemon and this is a genuinely pretty hard game that you do need to strategize for especially later (at least that's how I felt) so I thought it would be fun to see him go through this, especially with the twists and turns in the plot. The problem is my boyfriend knows latin, and when the second augur cast the curse he just turned to me and said "He just cast "chains of death"." He... didn't need context clues after that

Fun fact: in the part where you revisit the Perfection Lair to “help” create mew two, you can enter through the back door and make it look like you are casting judgement upon Nora along with Taen and Reukra. Also, you missed out on a really cool mega hydreigon mechanic, while losing hp, it starts to gain new heads and increased stats
When fans are able to take Pokémon concepts way better than Nintendo

Fairly sure the 8th gym had a 5 headed one. Wiped my team about 5 times before I could finally defeat that hydreigon
@@stormwarden6012 I mean, yeah, 5 heads are the “basic form” of mega hydreigon, but it then adds 4 more at 80%, 60%, 40% and 20% hp. The way I got rid of it was to use a mega Gardevoir and Moonblast, was fairly easy that way

Insurgence really does have an edgy, over the top complex story. Even so, it has a special place in my heart since I met so many friends through the community back before the game was completed. And as the person who originally designed the "lord" outfits, as well as made the sprite work for the short hair option for the female player character, it makes me smile to see content creators using the assets that I helped make in their play throughs.

I kind of find it hilarious how they implemented Delta's. That used to be a mechanic in the Pokemon card game about 15 years ago? during the 3rd gen pokémon they had Delta pokemon cards which were pokemon with different types than normal, like a water based Salamance. Great fun and a bit of a trip down memory lane for me :D
4th Gen, wasn't it (legit don't remember)? But either way those were awesome to play with, and I wish the TCG would bring them back.
and wasn't there also the break evolution mechanic? actually I don't think any games have used that.. unless we consider break a combination of Zenith stones and dynamax, in which case its parts have existed (kinda)

The post-game of Insurgence is insane and is half the story itself (Yes, beating the champion is basically the halfway point)... although I'm not gonna beg you to do it or anything, since one of the main post-game quests is saving Damien.

@@walkytalky378 Deoxys Gramps and Damien are trying to take over the MC's dream realm, claiming to be "healing" it. They infect the people and darkrai cultist. Adam and MC are there to fight back. Adam stalls while MC goes to capture Darkrai to help them. Whether they succeed or fail, they return to Adam and fight against them. But after losing, Adam forces Gramps to release his control over everyone. He does so, freeing Damian, who chooses to stay in the Dream Realm to help Adam

@@chasefray if you look it up it'll tell you but if you turn on hard mode, it caps your level to keep you balanced but if you stay around that level in normal mode it has the same effect

From a gameplay perspective there is so much that wasn’t in this video or even his vods, from a story perspective there’s still a lot more, the dex includes *everything* up to gen 6(?), plus the new delta mons, *plus* new megas (spoiler: primals are sick), *PLUS* mechanics like armor, a bunch of quests for cool stuff and mons, a ton of stuff
The raw amount of collecting there is to do in this game is insane, I’ve wanted to 100% it but it’s genuinely so daunting lol there is just so much to do
Isn't this just another edgy poke fan game?... Like I swear there's way too many mega edgy pokemon fan games... I mean I like the Pokemon and character designs but everything just seems too edgy for me

@@ameladaptivedaydreamer949 You can choose to have a Dark, edgy story or a traditional story which takes out all of the death and sacrifices and stuff like that when you start a new save.
@@ameladaptivedaydreamer949 You choose whether or not you want the edgy story at the start of your save. There are two versions of the story, one of which is far more cheery. Also, even if there wasn't a way to get rid of the edginess, no, it would not be even mildly comparable to any other fan game. The sheer amount of genuinely interesting and enjoyable content is umatched by anything else.
@@ameladaptivedaydreamer949 For what it's worth, the "edge" in this game isn't that prevalent compared to a good number of other Pokemon fangames, it was more or less highlighted for this video. The edge takes place for maybe...20% of the game? Of course that's not to say that this game doesn't have problems: the level curve is wild (there's a way to negate it but that doesn't make it good design still), if you aren't a competitive player anything above Easy is going to be a rough time, and it does use stock (? I know I've heard some of it in other RPGMaker games for certain) RPGMaker music (most notably in the Black Market), which can feel a little unoriginal. I do think that the Pokemon variety, the challenge of the boss fights, and the Deltas are all very quality, and the writing in the library at least shows there was care and effort in the game, and a slight understanding onto why Pokemon is so fun, more so than Uranium in my opinion. It sure as hell ain't no Reborn that's for certain, which is a game that actively hates you and when people discover a game-breaking strategy, they'll just patch it out. It's the same problem I have with Radical Red: if you don't use the strategy the devs intended, it'll be patched out soon after, and I think this came about when some nuzlockers or something called it "too easy", which is an extremely shitty mentality.
@@CruelFire99 hey don't trash talk reborn. It's tough, but definitely not impossible. The only fights I found stupid tough were Charlotte and the glass workshop gauntlet. Also, you can just up and break the game at beginning by choosing torchic or froakie. A decent bit of reborn's difficulty probably just comes from its emphasis on scripted/special encounters since the early game has normal wild encounters restricted. REJUVENATION'S NORMAL AND INTENSE DIFFICULTIES, ON THE OTHER HAND.

The plot of this game was the most bizzare joke I ever heard, but I unironically enjoyed it.
Yeah. It’s one of those “so ridiculous it’s good” type beats.
The first time I played this, I picked dead charmander as the starter except it was shiny, but because it was my first playthrough, I had no idea what the shiny sprites looked like, so I just assumed it was a regular one, I took a break from the game and eventually got back and forgot what I was doing so I reset the game and repicked my starter, which wasn't shiny, and that was the moment I realised just how stupid I am.

Ah yes, Pokemon Insurgence. The "Edgy" Pokemon Fangame from 2011 which actually looked and is pretty dang good. Also the Delta Pokemon was regional variants before Alola decided to make that a reality in the mainline (also lots of new Megas for a lot of popular or even obscure pokemon to make em better)

Same here! It was my very first fan made rom/Pokémon game that I ever played and was playing it after sword and shield. It was a whiplash to say the to least. To go to a game that was so lackluster and easy to something so complex and challenging. I love the game so much and have more than 100+ hours on it. My final team is:

Love how you breezed through all the boss battles. I had so much trouble for so many despite having a decently trained team (EV, I’ve, nature, ability). I guess it helps that you sunk all your exp into your starter 😅

If you're ever interested, replaying this on the hardest difficulty is a genuine challenge (well, it was for me at least). The AI is extremely smart and there are level caps. Also, you might consider checking out the post-game - there's an unreal amount of genuinely interesting and fun stuff to do.
I think you miss the hardest challenge:
Try to complete as much as you can with every single challenge mode turned on. I can almost guarantee that you won’t make it past the first gym, it’s that insane.

it will absolutely never get old for me that "pokémon kills a human with a somewhat specific move" is a trope in _so many_ gritty Pokémon fan games, and on seeing it every 'true' pokémon fan is always so incredulous you would dare to do that... yet in the thing Pokémon is based on monsters are used as deadly weapons all the time, in like half of all episodes.
literally, Pokémon RSE is based on an episode where somebody is leading the equivalents of both Kyogre and Groudon to kill all humans, which is the _first_ episode of the show

Reborn just has the Pokémon directly kill the human. No moves, just murder, which give it so much more impact to the deaths, and the game shows the aftermath of each death. One of the deaths completely changes the path of one of the main characters.
It only really happens a few times.

The gritty cult atmosphere of the early Shin Megami Tensai or Devil Summoner games, without the 80's and 90's street punk style to tie it down, and without the good sense to maintain energy and never look back after Thor orders the US government to nuke Japan under the direct command of God himself.
It's a subtle thing. Pulling that style off, and making it look and feel good is far more difficult than it looks.

The battle with Nyx takes place at the Throne of the Hegemon (Insurgence location), the place where all of reality was created; while it's almost the halfway point between the matter world and the Distortion world, it doesn't belong to either, and the player's victory just banishes the Distortion people out of the Throne and the matter world.
Wow, excellent story telling, and narration. Not to mention the battle scene to story ratio was perfect. I was like eh idk 40m kinda long but I am completely enthralled.

I remember playing this game a couple years ago when it first came out and getting so lost in the story I just gave up and just beat everyone who crossed my path (in game ofc). It's amazing seeing one of my favourite content creators play through it!

I’ve been playing Insurgence for years, I even have several old outdated versions (they often crash now if I try to load them, and one save file is softlocked in the E4 back when the Giratina statue became stairs). I hope Pointcrow covers postgame at some point, things get wild.
Dude, I honestly wouldn’t have minded a multi-part video series. It would have made it a lot easier to organize the plot (I.e you could have made each cult its own part or whole video.)
In all seriousness, though, this was a fantastic video! Huge respect for how well you managed to summarize the awfully complex story of this game into one video.
Side note: the postgame is literally just the other half of this game. Also, I vaguely remember you knowing of this, but in case you didn’t, there is a level trainer NPC that you can use to quickly level up Pokemon fast. Also, there’s a really easy way to farm money to pay for it. If you continue playing, please for the love of god use it lol.

@@heromedley The plot is so edgy it's good, and it's actually well written, you don't get lost and don't have to truly think a lot about it, you just have to play, THE MAP LAYOUT ON THE OTHER PART

All of the lot and references in the game are amazing. So much attention to detail that it outshines several of the main games.
Plus, there is a lot of post game content that makes this game even crazier, like catching the giratina before the champion and getting it's primal form and it's insane ability

@@tristanbowles7258 well that’s a big rip. In my randomizer I got zekrom for starter(it was the side I picked before I saw the choices). Then first rival battle had mewtwo and first other trainer battle had arceus. OHKO with dragon rage tho

The darker atmosphere of this game makes it feel like there's actual stakes. In the other Pokemon games it always seems like worst case scenario is your Pokemon faint.

I think it’s also better writing. Ghetsis manipulating N into becoming Champion so that he could make the region release all their Pokémon or Lusamine almost killing Cosmog so she could be with the Nihilego were way more interesting then Cyrus’ or Lysandre’s genocide plots just because of how much better written they were. That being said, BW and SM are some of the darker Pokémon games so it definitely helps.

So I know it's hard to put hours of footage into a single video, but the part about the secret society that was originally given the crystal being mentioned during the recap when the last part before the recap was the joke about the unobtainable master ball kind of came out of left field for me.
If it wasn't obvious to those watching Crow skipped like 50% or even more of the story and actual content of the game to the point he didn't mention very important characters and plot points. So if you haven't played the game yourself then please don't try and judge the games writing or content through this video that Crow himself expressed multiple times in said video was a nightmare to cram into 40+ minutes. Insurgence is a great game with many quality of life features and heeps of content that will keep you busy for hours with a great story and characters. For those that don't like dark tones or what the internet calls "edgy" there is actually a feature that let's you change the story to a traditional pokemon story with nothing about deaths or cults although I haven't played it and don't know how good it is since the darker story is way more interesting and if I wanted a traditional pokemon story I would play an offical pokemon game but that's just me.
I'd say the issue isn't about dark and edgy, but it's just poorly written all around. It is a fun experience, though.

@@babulbiWow didn't get a notification for this. No literally people in the comments are calling the actions of dying and cults edgy not even how the plot is executed. That's why edgy is such a dumb word to use nowadays to critique games because most the time people don't even understand how to use it properly. I disagree that the plot is poorly written but that's just me.

I was playing through Insurgence when this video came out. I finally beat the game, so here we go! Looking forward to PointCrow gloriousness, and Cult sacrifices!
Edit: I was not disappointed.
Also, it took me a few tries to take down Champion Reukra (the E4 were fairly easy), and when I finally did, my game crashed RIGHT before I got the satisfaction of watching my team (which had been with me for several years of playing this game on and off) get registered in the Hall of Fame. The game saved itself, fortunately, but I was a little upset. The one bad thing about the game, and I blame my laptop for that.
For a game that is a bit old, IT'S QUITE WEIRD ON PERFORMANCE, it can randomly crash if your fps are less than intended, why? IDK, it just goes, hahano
The gym leader Anastasia’s reference to faraday is from the book series arc of a scythe in which faraday is Anastasia’s mentor btw it is a very good series I would recommend btw I’m not a bot
21:54 is one of the moments that shows the storytelling here is ridiculously good, reminding us of the overarching question and why the protag started is an essential part of a good story. Great content my dude!
