I’m from San Pedro and just throwing it out there that the port of L.A (that being SP, Long Beach, Wilmington) is Los Angeles in name only, it has a distinct and unique history separate from L.A, culture, architecture, demographic, geographic, -wise. Getting to downtown Los Angeles from here is a drive of over an hour and change at least and up to two and a half depending on traffic. Fishing, Shipping, Maritime endeavors and interests of all kinds have always been very critical to the port cities, with surfing as well beginning in the 60’s. Longshoreman (dockworkers essentially) makeup the majority of the funds and funding for San Pedro and Wilmington at least which is currently the strongest labor union still standing in America.
