METHODOLOGY
I performed 10 full detail simulations of the Top 30 leagues to create a single database to give me insight into player and team performances under the current Match Engine. Set up in real world mode, with the first transfer window disabled. Teams were able to make transfers in January, allowing us to get a sense of what the AI considers each team's areas of weakness.
All player statistics were exported for players in active leagues who played over 900 minutes, aggregated and then standardised to per 90 metrics. All player recommendedations will come from this pool.
League results were similarly exported, and averaged out to help give a high level overview of team performance, which will instruct us on the state of teams at the start of the game and provide a baseline for us to measure against. I'll be using the save file from the season that is the closest representation of a team's average performance to then drill further into specific details.
No editor files were used as part of this process, ensuring that the guide provided is applicable to the vanilla game.

Indeed. When I started, I had freshly shaved. Hence the bald avatars. And then when I started to put my face on camera, I realised I was no longer bald!
So happy to have discovered your channel, always wanted to give "moneyball" ago but never really had much luck. Started to implement some things from your videos and ive never had as much fun
That's great to hear. I think "moneyball" is such a nebulous term that it can be really daunting to get into, but once you do it opens up a whole new world! A large driver in trying myself was that everytime I started a save before trying this approach, I would want to sign the same players because I knew how much they cost and who "objectively" had the best attributes that I could afford. Focussing on who performs well in the save, completely opened up my games to find new players and create new stories/memories!

One of the biggest difficulties is I want to do as many teams and leagues as possible - especially those that don't get talked about as much in English-language content - but I don't have enough time to do all the teams! I have fond memories of Internacional from the early 2010s. D'Alessandro and Leandro Damião mainly!!

Great video as always. And congratulations on the anniversary. As a dane i've learned to not say never, when it comes to my country and the Euros with us winning once and being in the semis another two times in my life time. Hope is there, but most likely it will be a loss in the second round to Germany. Anything less, however will be unacceptable to us. I'm quite surprised that the stats in FM didn't show O'Reilly at Celtic to be better than some of the other players you took. A player to watch out for on our team is Morten Hjulmand on the midfield. Plays for Sporting in Portugal and was awarded with a place on team of the year together with Joao Neves and Pedro Goncalves. A warrior in the midfield, who is also very comfortable on the ball. I have a thing for players, who plays with passion and technically gifted. One of his first national team games earlier this year, he ended up in a small pushing/shouting quarrel with Granit Xhaka of all people. He doesn't care, who the opponent is. It's his territory. Every team needs a player like that, but most don't have it.
Hjulmand is quality. In fact, second time I've managed him in FM, as he was one of my first signings for the Chelsea vid! O'Riley wasn't particularly great in the sims. Was below the threshold in tackle success rate and pressures attempted, unfortunately. An interesting player that met the criteria but was just a little worse than the 5 I took was Magnus Kofod. I'd definitely be keen to take a closer look at him.

A national team callup actually based by merit. That's a rare sight but a welcome one!
A genuinely tricky thing in real life. How a player performed in one team is different to how they'll perform in another, so if a national team manager has reason to believe they'd be more effective (perhaps based on what they've done in the national team before), then it makes sense to pick players that aren't necessarily "in form"
Yeah, there are a lot of factors, including the familiarity beteeen the coach and the players, but it's always sad to see players with amazing seasons not being able to snatch the place from the usual suspects
Also, with your experience with the Danish team across the saves, it got me interesting to see you managing the team in game. Maybe you could win it all 👀
But I know you have too many videos in store and this wouldn't be as interesting. Perhaps a challenge for the viewers 👀
I do want to make EURO's saves, but with fm23, I won't be able to have the real groups :/
@@King_Ameno it's tough. Especially with coaches' knowing that there job is on the line. I think it ultimately leads to some more conservative selections for tournaments!
@@King_Ameno it's a shame - I had a quick look on FM Scout to see if anyone had created anything for FM23 but sadly not. And simming ahead two seasons multiple times in the hope of getting the groups right via luck, doesn't sound like a particularly fun approach!!

I love the way you approach FM. However I have a question: I understand comparing stats between 2 players to decide which one you should pick but if you have one playing in the top 5 leagues and one playing in Denmark for example is it not only natural it is more difficult for the one playing at a higher level to have slightly worse stats? I mean he’s playing against better opposition. Same with RB Salzburg, playing in a division notoriously dominated by one team, it’s normal to have great stats when you play for that team. Just curious.🤔
Correct, you want to take into account the strength of division, and there will always be an element of subjectivity. Something like the Austrian Bundesliga actually has less disparity than the Turkish Super Lig or the Scottish Premiership. After all, Salzburg didn't win the league IRL this time round!
I'm Romanian and the fact that you have us playing QF after eliminating Netherlands in the Round of 16 makes me wonder if you're ok. It would be an absolute miracle if we get out of the group but the most likely outcome is that we'll finish dead last. I love your channel, keep up the good work.

It's tricky. There's always one or two wild cards each tournament, and the way I see it, Group E looks like it could throw up a surprise. When it comes to the knockout rounds, there's always one or two big teams who have bad games and get knocked out when no-one expects. It would be a surprise for you to be Netherlands, but they feel like the kind of team who will do really well in the groups, everyone will suddenly be talking about them as the best team and the tournament, only for them to forget how to play football and fall at the beginning of the knockouts 😂
I think Serbia will be...okay. I actually reckon you draw with England and Denmark, but lose to Slovenia. I always feel like you're best when people think you might lose, and the players want to prove people wrong, but when you are expected to win, that's when things go wrong 😂

It had been a dilemma for a while. I'd shaved my hair off before I started making videos, but then stopped as the weather got colder. Once I ended up with my face on camera, I no longer looked like the logo/avatar I'd been using 😂

I was going to add an outtakes section to the end of the video with all the failed video sections. You'd be surprised how many times it took me to take off a party hat and put on a beanie!!!!
Must admit, predictions always feel a little like sticking your finger in the wind. All of the top teams are capable of playing an absolute stinker and tumbling out early. I think that's what did for Germany in my opinion. I just feel like they're just a little more likely to absolutely mess it up somehow!!

I would normally agree, but I just think the German's will come good on home turf. Sadly if I can see any big nation having a stinker, I think we could be right up there with our defensive issues.
