As a Fuji Pro Products Rep at that time, explaining the SCCD was always tough as people ONLY counted pixels. So stupid. THE BEST way to explain the Super CCD? Stereo speakers have a woofer (low notes or dark sounds) and a tweeter (high notes or bright sounds). This splits the sound recreation duties between them. Fuji did the same. Most pros weren't experienced enough with digital to understand the concept. One who did, a food photographer from Ohio, went on to use the S5 for all his work for many years (he started wtih an S-2 in the early 2000's). He said these cameras convinced him to NEVER purchase a digital back (he came from shooting 8x10 and 4x5 Velvia).
Well, actually if you use Fujifilm ancient software for developing RAW files of the S5 Pro, Hyper Utility 3, those RAW files retain full 12MP resolution with all the benefits of the Super CCD sensor. Nice video!
This camera is magic in the way it renders Photos. Skin tone, High Dynamic Range. Portraits. I snagged one for a good price £260 looks like new its amazing only 18200 shutters :)
Bought this camera back in 2020 for $150... its now like $500. I will use it until it gets to $1000. Its an amazing camera and works great with vintage Nikkor lenses.
That's awesome! The Fujifilm S5 Pro is definitely a classic. It's amazing how the value has increased. Here in Sweden, the price is still relatively low. I enjoy using Nikon AF and AF-D lenses with it-they make a great combination of vintage with autofocus. Plus, they're well-priced since they can't be adapted to mirrorless with autofocus. Enjoy shooting with it!
Kim you say that on the S5Pro that on RAW you get 6 Mega Pixels, I have the S5Pro, and I shoot on RAW, and I am getting the full 12 Mega Pixels, and getting higher Meg Range Pixel files, and have read the Fuji Manual on the Quality Setting chart that the manual saids then when shooting in RAW that it is actually reduce to NINE Mega Pixels. As in reading the manual that I am setting at the standard quality, and if I set it to RAW Fine that they increase the Image file, and also that SUPER CCD also Implodes the image increasingly the image files.. Due to that my first Fuji Digital model was the Finepix 4700z in which it is 2.4 pixel that imploded the images from 2.4 to 4 pixels as that win what I am seeing the S5pro, and I also have the Fuji S3Pro in which that is my go camera, and the best part that I love these models that it takes AA rechargeable batteries that gives me a full days work in shooting.
I shoot RAW with my S5 Pro and it is full resolution. I don't know where he got that 6 megapixel information from. Some people call the S3 and S5 Pro cameras 6 megapixels because the dual-sensor arrays are 6 megapixels for the small photodiodes and 6 megapixels for the large photodiodes, ignoring that both photodiode suites are stitched into a single image...
6 or 12 MP are not file sizes. So the RAW files get info from 6 MP but that isn't saying the resulting file is 6 MP because that's not how file sizes are reported. Unit of measure for file size is MB.
Cameras have a dynamic range around 12-15 steps in order to get the most of it you need to expose the highlights so they don't blow out. But the dynamic range of the camera is the same all the time and dont have anything to do with highlighta or shadow.
Both cameras makes as good photos as the one operating them are skillful. they where both considered to be professional camera of its era and was released at the same period. they super ccd have more dynamic range, some fuji colors but only 6mega pixle raw. Not sure that's a problem today since AI tools can increase the resolution. The nikon Is faster works at higher iso and also renders great looking images with nice ccd colors I'm in the working of an D200 review at the moment
@@jen4ugan Indeed it is, the value vs the money is high here especially compared to Leica ccd. And here we are on a simulator build quality tho very different design philosophy. A comparison would fit well in my upcoming D200 review! I believe i lean slightly more towards the Nikon but i haven't used either one that much to know for sure. I picket up the D200 since it's one of highest megapixel count CCD sensor cameras that is't medium format or Leica. And the S5 since it's the same lens system but with a different designed super CCD sensor they pair well together using same batteries and everything. This is probably the kind of cameras where you get your money back selling them. I even sold on of my S5's with profit. Lowest priced D200 at mpb.com is 46€ at the moment.

I like your photos and the way you explain, what makes this camera so special and unique. Very good job! 👍🏻
I have a D200 already. Should I get this as well or is my D200 sufficient ?
this one is nothing like the d200 and the d200. is nothing like this :) It's always worth trying out an s5 😉
@@Kim_Alexander I think I will do just that 😊
I have the S3 (the AA battery version) and export 12meg 16bit TIF files from RAW using SilkyPix. It is a fantastic camera for both colour and B+W.

Nice review of this unique camera!
Thank you. I still enjoy my S5 even though I have a D610
this camera body now sells for 300-400 on ebay from japan. all the recent publicity drove the price way up
It’s worth more than that. I don’t know of any other camera that can produce skin tones as good anywhere close to this price
I got one for 270€ recently with only 7k actuations. If you don't care about that, I've seen them go for 200 from time to time
Started following your channel with the video you made for aperture mod and really pleased I discovered your content.
Thanks!
I appreciate your support!

How do you get sharpie clear photos of people with the Fuji S5Pro ?
I set the focus on the eye using the focusing points of the camera. I only have one prime lens for this camera. A sigma 30mm 1.4
