Very nice compilation of the countries you visited. I watched the Nepal segment separately, so great to see the whole trip. Just bought a 2002 640 ADV and anxious to learn of its capabilities, which appear formidable. Subbed.
Gerade das Video entdeckt .. Grüße aus Deutschland , wenn ihr wieder mal unterwegs seit und teile braucht meldet euch wieder mal ... wir haben eh noch einen Kaffee auf . Gruß Frank
HI. it is the best trip on bike I have ever seen. Thank you for this emotion . Welcome in Russia. ! What problem you had with LC4 ? I have 640 adv and problem with autodecompressor .
Privjet Michail! Would totally love to ride in Russia one day! :-) The carburettors slider (out of aluminium, Mikuni TM40) partly desintegrated and some parts of it went through into the engine. We essentially just took out the bits, checked for serious damage but couldn't find any and put the engine back together. The easy way to get your autodeco working again is to put in a new camshaft... Depending on the age of your engine it could be a good idea to check the camshaft anyways. I'm now on my third camshaft at about 115.000kms, they were never really broken but showed signs of abrasion so I replaced them at about 40-50.000kms each. The more fiddly way is to do some mechanical workings (grinding) on the camshaft itself. There is a pin at the camshaft that should hold the auodeco cam in a certain position when the engine is turning below 1000rpm. When it gets round from long life it fails to work properly. Some people have managed to get it working by grinding a sharp edge to the pin again. - I've always just replaced the camshaft as a whole because the old one was worn in a bit anyways... Baka! - Martin
Thanks! Maybe, one day in my life I will do a similar trip across africa... We will see... ;-) The slider of the carburettor had partly desintegrated and been sucked into the combustion chamber, and we took the engine apart to check for the amount of damage, and also to get the carburettor parts out...
Möchte mir auch eine Zulegen....wie habt ihr das mit den Serviceintervallen gemacht? Bisher nur gelesen dass sie extrem oft sind, ölwechsel, ventile einstellen undso...
Congratz on that trip, must have a bunch of unique moments to remember. :) About the bike, after so much, what do say about it, reliability and maintenance/cost wise?
The very last bit we actually took the train because of complicated Vehicle-Import regulations in Singapore. Hence no helmetcam footage of Singapore. The bikes flew from Kuala Lumpur to Frankfurt, the riders from Singapore.
triplehoernchen Good in that case Ill take that as an advice for mine. Also own a Ktm 640 adv. Im Austrian in Colombia planning trip to Patagonia in near future.
fvont4X4 Well, good on you for that trip! I'm sure you will love it! I don't know about the roads you will be going, but if you encounter a lot of mud you will not be happy with those tires... Those work good on road and in dry, rocky offroad conditions. In sand it's also quite difficult to ride with them...
It will be pavement and dry gravel dirt roads similar to what I saw on your videos. maybe dome sand if go for some south american dakar streches. .....But If you were to pick a 50 road 50 off road set up what tires would you choose? Anyway I think your videos realy show the greatness of the ktm 640 Adv and I hope you keep posting more. I suscribed.
Hmmm, that's a difficult question, I think i would go for Dunlop Rally Raid or Michelin Desert, just from hear/say. I've only ridden the Rally Raid so far, (in my Ligurian Border Crest Road Video), I was quite happy, altough after some 5000kms they are gone... (The more road orientated Pirellis last three times as long)
Including everything (spares, fuel, food, drinks, accomodation, air transport of the bikes from Kathmandu-Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur-Frankfurt...) except the initial cost of buying the bike and preparing it (also ~5000€, but I still use the bike and most of the equipment for commuting and small holiday trips).

You always need to leave some jewels to justify another trip sometime in the future! ;-) And also we had an "appointment" in Nepal for christmas, so we didn't really have the time to go south any further, und to just speed through would not have made much sense in our opinion...
