Just started out the course and paid my conrtubution as a 50+, always wanted to learn to play guitar....sore fingers a few days but it is so much fun, thanks Justin
Gee, that was nicely done with the anticipated difficulties and the method of muting the low E. Good instruction. Going to look up more of your videos.
My instructor introduced this one a month ago, as it's in a song I'm learning. I was surprised that my fingers found their way to this kind of weird shape fairly quickly!
@@arealgoodguy Perhaps on some subconscious level, although I was taught to play G with ring finger on third fret low E (and muting A string) with pinky on third fret high E. That leaves index & middle free for some embellishments!
@@Tracer9GTRider8 - I'm sure they told you to do that way to transition between the C chord easier. I finally have the dexterity to do it that way, but I would still rather do the G chord the standard way.
@@arealgoodguy it helps with that too, but when you're playing G with your ring finger and Pinky you can do some different things with your middle finger and index finger on different strings. Give it a try if you haven't already. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
@@Tommyr Being a Paul McCartney piano song Hey Jude is in F. So either play with a capo on first fret or tune the guitar up a step and play in E. The second chord is B7. If I was John that's how I would have done it and maybe that's how he did do it though you never really get a good look on any videos except the electric one where John is clearly playing in F.
@@guitarstrunged Not sure why you bring up Hey Jude, I can play an F with no problem. I'm used to playing mainly major and minor chords. I just have to practice 7th chords a lot more is all.
when doing a waltz rhythm for some latin/traditional songs, the first finger does 2frat 6th string for the low key, and back to 2frat 5th string for higher low note. but when I move from that 6th string to the 5th string the string sticks to my finger on the way up and it rings, anyone have any tips on bouncing between the 6th and 5th string for this chord?
like most 7 chords it's a very bluesy chord. You may find yourself building riffs around it. you could for instance use B7 to cap off a 12 bar blues in A. The E shaped bar chord version has a slightly deeper tone. Both are cool.
Hi Sir Justin.. is there any way to play guitar while singing without Strumming? Comping ? Or without rhythm? I know it's not a good question but this is truth... Sir you are the best Guitar Teacher in the RUclips world so plz Help
Why kill the 6th string? Here I might just be lucky to have stubby fingers. I can easily play the both the 6th and 5th strings together with my middle finger and I find that it sounds superior.
It does sound good. But it's a different chord. When I'm playing solo on my acoustic I will often allow the lower note strings (E and A) to ring out in order to kind of fill the space, especially when I sing along in my baritone register. All of that is also probably not the correct way to play, but like Justin says; "If it sounds good, it is good!"
@@charlie-obrien Another chord, in the same vein, to try is a ninth chord. It's nice 'cause you can move it all over the neck, and you can use it to replace the 7th.
Muting it is insurance against accidentally strumming it. Both together. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
This concept of one chord shorts is fantastic! It motivates me to learn chords one by one 👌🏻
The most difficult chord for me. F chord was cakewalk compared to this
I have never gotten along with the F chord
F chord is easy for me cause i practice it for me b7 is kinda hard
Emaj7 barre on the 4th fret is a real SOB for me
John and Paul took a 4 hour train ride to learn that one. Kids today don't know how easy they have it.
No they didn’t
@@jeff7764yes they did.
@@jeffdurall8353 they did not

Ah, integral part of the Tom Waits' Holy Trinity of chords - Am, B7, Em. Jockey Full of Bourbon and Tango 'til They're Sore. Love it.
Funny you should mention Tom Waits… I didn’t use this chord much (if ever) until recently, when I learned Martha. D, B7, Em, A7…
3 must know Beatles chords. B7, Bm, & a 'John Lennon D7' (3rd fret)
Johnny cash favorite chord!
Thank you for these amazing and helpful videos!
Gracias

It looks very similar to a G chord. That's why it might seem natural.

Awesome chord! I learned it to play Creep by Stone Temple Pilots.
very nicely explained!
This chord is in John Denver’s “Back Home Again”. Beautiful song and really good practice for that B7!
It's also in the song "Bus stop" . And the Beatles love 7th chords as well. This chord still gives me fits.

Link Wray uses this , strum before the walk down in "Rumble"

AC/DC - Overdose.
B7 - E
I’ve only ever used this chord in Here, There and Everywhere.
It's also in "Can't Help Falling in Love" :)

Can you make a how to play avenged sevenfold buried alive intro?
I still really struggle witht this chord
Practice. That's all you need.
It’s just very different from other chord shapes. Do your 1 minute changes and you’ll get it.
John Paul and George travelled across Liverpool on a bus because they had heard of a guy that knew the B7. chord!
You wonder why the Beatles went crazy to learn this chord.
E and and A, B7...come on everybody!
Hate this chord. Love this chord.

I think my fingers are too fat lol
