I was not aware of the Alaska QR rings, they did what they were designed to do. Never used QR rings before, just no faith... will be rethinking that. I've really enjoyed this video series. Again, Thank You for all You Do and have a Blessed Day.
Looks like you got it sorted out. That's a good feeling and you end up with a better understanding of your equipment for working out the kinks. Great rifle that you can never wear out.
For the most part I think we've got it. There are still a couple of issues though. First, the finish is still prone to oxidation. Stainless it isn't. I'll probably CeraKote it the same color at some point. Next, while the stock is "fixed" if I ever plan to use it in an extremely wet environment (rain for days) I'll probably have to swap it for something that won't swell up like a wet phone book as these Green Mountain stocks are known to do. That pains me greatly because the stock in my mind was one of the most attractive features.
I’m considering buying a Ruger m77 Hawkeye and this has been super informative. Really enjoyed the whole series. I will definitely look into the Alaska QR rings and floor plate.
Now that the initial disappointment of having to fix it to get it right is behind me, I'm at piece with the purchase and the work that was necessary. If I were to do it over again I would probably buy one with the synthetic stock rather than the Green Mountain laminate stock. I see many of these (M77's in general) for sale on GunBroker that go in the $600 to $800 range. Although right now is not a good time to try to buy a hunting rifle on GunBroker as with hunting season in full swing rifles are commanding a premium at the moment. You would be better off to wait until after Christmas when everybody spent their spending money.
Ive mentioned these products from Alaska Arms on an early video. Im quite familiar with the M77 and Hawkeye family of rifles. Im happy to see your Ruger is working out for you after some fixes. They really are a tough and robust rifle once dialed in. If you really want to go to the next level get another set Alaska Arms 30mm rings and an Aimpoint 9000L for that Ruger. This is what I call an trifecta of magnified scope, irons, and red dot.
So when I bought the rifle I wanted a tough, weather resistant, controlled round feed "no nonsense" hunting rifle. When you consider everything the rifle offers, for what it is is still pretty good. Especially when you start pricing custom guns with CRF. From the beginning I knew more or less what I wanted to do to fix it. I've read enough articles and forums to know that Green Mountain stock would have to be hogged out and glass bedded. I was truly blessed that Morris came to show me the way he does them as I would have been nervous to do what we did without him standing there telling me it would work. I am content with the accuracy I'm getting now, although eventually I'll replace the stock. I'm still disappointed with the finish and the level of corrosion that I'm getting on the barreled action (the bolt is fine) so I will be sandblasting and Cera-coating it in the near future. I'll consider getting an up close optic setup for it for hog/black bear hunts once Build Back Better quits kicking me in the pocket book. I've never personally owned an Aimpoint, but we have used Aimpoint Micro's at work for years and they seem to work well. Thanks for being a part of all this 👍
I have a set on my African, I did notice I had to lap the rings to get a perfect fit on my scope, but I’ve found that especially on Ruger receivers it’s normal, with the horizontal style clamp. Very nice quality rings, I also could not torque the base screw to the proper spec listed in the paperwork as if I did and then released the lever it would be stuck. The highest I could torque was 18” pounds and have flawless lock and unlock
I had lapped the Ruger rings it came with the rifle. I think I did that in video number 3?🤔 I did not find it necessary to do it with these. Concerning the torque to set the lever screws. I too noticed that the bases were a little tight at 25in/lbs, however once the scope was mounted they popped right off. That said I'm sure 18in/lbs is probably plenty.
@@JayLewisFarmStyleif I went to 25” pounds I could unlock the lever but it would not pop back and release off my receiver. At 18” pounds it was butter smooth on and off. I did need to lap the rings, of course there are more primitive ways to check ring alignment but I have a tool from Australia that’s extremely tight tolerances which may or may not be necessary for many guys if they run 100 yards. I just noticed almost any rifle and ring setup can benefit from lapping even alittle. It also allows the rings to contact more evenly so that sticky tape is not required for scope slippage
If you are using an Ruger 77 Hawkeye series rifle its a smart idea to incorporate a couple paper clips. They are handy for breaking down the bolt in the field. My Hawkeye rifle has been stellar in crap weather but one never knows if a bolt stip might be necessary. Anyway.
I'm going to order a couple sets of these rings for my guide gun. Some hunts I like a 3-9 or 2-10 scope, other times I want my 1-5 or just the irons. This looks like just the ticket for that. Spendy, but what good rings aren't spendy these days.
Finally got home so i could watch this tonight. I am excited to hear what you think of these rings. I had been debating between these and the Warne for my rifle. And i like the drop belly plate but it wouldn't match the polished blued finish on my African 😕
I'll have to give those rings a look I've been looking for a good set of rings for my M77 sadly he doesn't have a extra capacity floor plate for my M77 it was a pipe dream haha it would be nice to have an extra round for it..
Took some time but I think your there. What's your trigger pull set at.🤔 Dare I say again recrown and lap the bore 🤔😆 just for giggles and to see if it can do even better. If you get a chance to try this load , I always had great accuracy with speer 165 grain hot core flat base bullets and imr 4064 powder with federal gold medal match cases and federal match primers. Can't wait to see where you go from here. I'm gonna catch you on rumble too. I watch a few people on there because RUclips demonetized them and you get more content to watch. I always used double sided thin tape in my rings so my scopes don't slip under recoil. I don't know what the tape is actually called. May be for carpet not sure. Thanks for the video Jay . Have a good upcoming week.😊
I'll give that load a try. I've looked at the crown a few times and it appears okay, but I'm going to put it on the list anyway. Thanks for following along with all this brother!
If you go to Alaska Arms website and put the parameters in the filter for the scope you will be using he will recommend the correct set of rings to you. I went with a Leupold VX-3 HD 3.5-10X40mm and we used the "high" rings which are made to accommodate up to 42mm objective. The designation high is a little deceptive as they aren't any higher than what they're stated to fit. Example: the rings to accommodate a 50mm objective are listed as "extra high". With this setup the express sights are not visible at all across the magnification range. Here's a link to the rings I used: alaskaarmsllc.com/products/ruger-scope-ring-set-blued-finish-1-inch-high-right-levers-r41rr51r
Jim Harmer from Backfire just bought one in 416. When I bought this one I almost bought it in 375 Ruger. I collect 375 H&H rifles and could not justify another medium bore. Good luck👍
Without getting too deep into the weeds with it: Just because somebody posted something on a RUclips video doesn't mean that it is in line with their terms and conditions. I used to post freely and didn't care if I posted something that might be pushing the envelope. I have received a couple of channel strikes in the past. While I don't agree with those decisions, this is their house and to post content here we have to play by their phony-bolony rules. I have been posting on YT well over 10 years and have sunk a very large amount of time effort and resources into establishing this channel into what it is. It isn't worth it to me to throw that away posting something that is liable to trigger some purple haired 300 pound content moderator with an anti gun agenda. If that makes me less cool, so be it.
THANK YOU for sporting the Paul Harrell t-shirt. ...G.O.A.T.

I think the Colonel would approve sir.

I have had my challenges with the M77 as well. Mostly the tang safety model. I absolutely love the super black glossy blued finish of the action!
It's a great gun now. Wish it would have started out a little better.
Thanks for sharing 👍

Very cool 😎. Great groups and information on the rings and tips for keeping it solid. Have a blessed day 🙏.

The only reason I didn't buy it in 375 Ruger was because I already own three 375 H&H rifles.
