The Savage 110 Bear Hunter in .375 Ruger weighs like 8.4lbs, but is meant for a scope. So until you get the round loaded, scope and rings and a sling, you'd probably be at 9lbs or so. Still lighter than the H&H rifles but heavy enough to cut some of the recoil. It also has a removable brake.

With modern case design and powders do you think it is better to go with a 6.5prc instead of a 7mm rem mag a lower 48 deep, antelope, sheep, black bear, and elk but mainly deer rifle from 0-500 yards?
Go 7mag all day! You will be able to find multiple different types of factory ammunition in most hardware stores and walmart's everywhere. Plus the sectional density is better on the 7mm and if you reload, bullet selection is larger. You will never make a shot with a 7mag and wish you had any 6.5mm.....jmo
I had an 8 pound w/ scope 375HH built on a Rem700 magnum action. It was a bit snappy with 300 grainers but with 230gr Barnes at 2950, it was easy but a great killer.
Was mentioned but a bit more could have been said of the off spring. The 300 RCM Ruger Conpact Magnum works well in shorter barrels and standard action. The 6.5 PRC designed for and works well with longer bullets and in short action. The 300 PRC also for longer bullets. I have all four. It should always be mentioned the PRCs and some other newer cartridge designs include a longer throat for the longer bullets. I have found getting lighter shorter bullets to perform well in those difficult.
Speaking as a South African, shooting big 5 at long range...comes down to shooting it at 100 yards, with African game a good PH won't let you shoot further than luke 50 yards
I owned a 375 Ruger in a savage platform with 20" barrel. Recoil was snappy but manageable. Certainly better than my 458 Lott in a heavier gun. Based on reaction of dirt pile alone as backstop that Ruger hits hard. Really hard. It would shoot dirt 20' into the air with max loads of H4350 and a 300 DGS.
I bought a Mossberg Patriot Ceracoated abolt in .375 Ruger. I like it because I can load down at 200 gr. with all copper bullets for deer/black bear size and then can go up to the big 300 dgs. It does hurt in the dgs line though. lol

My 375 Ruger weighed around 7 lbs and kicked so hard it would turn your arm purple so I added weight brought it up to 10 lbs and haven’t shot it since. It has a lot more recoil than the H&H .
Nostalgia aside, I like how with the newer .375 Ruger and the .416 Rem, you could now own both calibers for a few thousand dollars instead of 20 thousand dollars for the Rigby and H&H.
My neighbor introduced me to the 7mm Rem Mag, via a Parker Hale. First time I ever saw a belted round. Since then, I've always been intrigued by the .375 H&H.
Ok gentlemen the deal with hunting over there in Africa. You will NOT find even one camp with extra 375 Ruger rounds but you’ll find every camp will have plentiful amounts of extra 375 H&H rounds.

375 Ruger is a great cartridge. However if your cartridges don't make it to your destination (they must be packed separately) your PH will have 375 H&H or will able to acquire with little problem. It is the African 30-06 !
Just bought a Ruger M77 African in 416 Ruger. you should do this cartridge on an episode Ruger M77 guide gun comes in 375 & 416 Ruger with a cool muzzle brake system on a 20” stainless barrel
I have a very light Mossberg Patriot in .375 Ruger. It’s a beast. I don’t know if mine would be considered a 600 yard gun, more like maybe 300. The accuracy just isn’t there to push mine further. If one would choose the .375 Ruger or H&H I would suggest using very good rings and not cheap rings. I tried a companies certain cheap rings and the scope kept sliding inside the rings.
Oof - a light 375 Ruger definitely would be punishing. Very correct about the rings too - good quality rings are what hold everything together, so if they're bad, the whole setup will be bad!
So crazy idea in one podcast!!!! Fire a round, take brass, cool, decap, size ,prime, charge, seat bullet, crimp, then fire again, keep going untill the brass is unfit!
Could you please do one on the 416 Rigby. would consider getting something safe and ethical for a buffalo size game down to very large deer and dangerous critters. Thanks, enjoying the 10min talks.
When I hear people praise the .30-06 Springfield as the '...father of so many cartridges' I want to point out the 8x57mm gewehr 1888 commission rifle cartridge. (No, it was not designed by Paul Mauser, but he knew a good thing when seen.) That cartridge sired the .30-06 Springfield, which in turn sired a bunch of cartridges including the 7.62x51mm NATO round which sired even more rounds. The .375 H&H is primarily an African use cartridge as there isn't much game in the Americas that require such a massive round. Perhaps some of the really large bears that will eat one if not prudent. I have a Ruger 77 Hawkeye in .375 Ruger. I have done a grand total of ten reloads (all solids) and I have a box of factory ammo but I haven't taken it out and shot it yet. I will use a standing rest, as opposed to a bench rest. And I just don't like belted cases.
@@georgewhitworth9742 That is probably more accurate. Especially for those who know and appreciate the chain of progression. The '03 cartridge did come first in 1903 (imagine!). The 1903 cartridge was identical to the '06 cartridge, save the '06 cartridge was .03 inches shorter to prevent the '03 round from chambering in the new configured chamber. So properly I should have said the 8x57mm round GRANDSIRED the .30-06 Springfield and so on. I shall now go to my room.
Another issue. The .375H&H feeds in a Mauser claw extraction action liked greased damned lightning. It is smooth as BUTTER!!!! The Ruger doesn’t even come near the feeding of a well conditioned Mauser in the Holland. Not anywhere near! The Ruger gets you about 150 to maybe 200 FPS longer. However of my 8 trips hunting over on Safari not a single shot taken was more than 180 yards. and I could have easily closed that distance but decided to take a further shot as to not disrupt another Hunter. The additional benefit you didn’t mention is that there is a well known truth that the .30-06 in 180 grain and the .375H&H in 300 have the exact same bullet trajectory. I am. It kidding. They are almost to the inch the same. If you pointed them side by side they would hit almost in sync. It’s that close!!!!!!! That’s a gigantic benefit when you take a two-gun battery over there to hunt plains game with your ‘06 and your H&H for heavy game.
According to Chuck Hawk‘s recoil table, a 375 Ruger weighing 8 ounces less, recoils 27% more than a 375 H&H, shooting a 300 grain projectile at 20 ft./s faster. This is why the 375 Ruger, along with availability of ammunition, is dead on the vine. There is absolutely no advantage to using this caliber, especially since there is only one rifle chambered for this round. Get yourself an M70 Winchester in 375 H&H. End of story.
375 Ruger is now priced at$105 Per 20 rounds of Hornady Outfitter On Midway USA. Ok , if you're Going to spend 20 grand on a Grizzly hunt in Alaska it's peanuts. But for the rest of us... Fagadda Bout it.
Great cartridge but my philosophy is to use a common cartridge so ammo can be found everywhere. I can't imagine trying to find 375 Ruger in places like: Pinedale or Buffalo, WY; Meeker, CO; or Libby, MT.
In theory this a good idea. However, in the current climate there is no promise you will find .270 Win or .243 or even .308 in any town during hunting season. I personally take steps to avoid this issue ever happening to me. I alway take a backup rifle and ammo. I always pack ammo and hunting tags in my clothes tote with my medications. I always have at least 60-120 rounds of ammo per hunting rifle caliber on hand. I have never suffered one of those terrible moments people talk about happening. Knock on wood. 😂
I could probably look this up myself, but I didn't. Has anyone heard reports of sticky bolts or extraction issues in Africa? Back in the day when 416 rem was a little bit of a thing I could go to the range on a hot July day just let my ammo and rifle sit in the sun and end up with both of those issues. Never had anything close to similar happen with 416 Rigby.
Andrew Russette never heard of sticky bolts running the 375... Now what some might find “sticky” is if they’re used to shooting a push feed action and go to controlled feed..
THANK YOU, FOR THIS BRIEF WHIFF OF INFORMATION,... (IMHO: IT WOULD'VE BEEN NICER IF YOU HAD A ROUND, ON DISPLAY, AND, PERHAPS SOME BALLISTIC DATA, AND, PERHAPS SOME TARGET RANGE SHOOTING FOOTAGE, TO SHOW THE "RECOIL, AND SHOOTER'S FIRST IMPRESSIONS, AFTER TRYING IT OUT,.... ) MAYBE SOME BALLISTIC GEL TESTS??!!..

You mean sired the .30-03?
And I don't see anything about that round siring the .30-06?
@@georgewhitworth9742 That is probably more accurate. Especially for those who know and appreciate the chain of progression. The '03 cartridge did come first in 1903 (imagine!). The 1903 cartridge was identical to the '06 cartridge, save the '06 cartridge was .03 inches shorter to prevent the '03 round from chambering in the new configured chamber. So properly I should have said the 8x57mm round GRANDSIRED the .30-06 Springfield and so on. I shall now go to my room.
I want to get an AR10 DMR or sniper set up in a 338-375 Ruger
Muzzle break every big bore and it's phenomenal what they are capable of
Man, you guys didn't know that Holland & Holland is British, and you're teaching us? Wow! Unbelievable!
Do a pod cast on the 338 RUM and the 375 RUM.
What about the 375 RUM? Even better then them all. Basically a 378 Weatherby less 50 fps.
I find that my Hawkeye feeds just fine. And any bullets with the same ballistic coefficient at the same velocity will have the same trajectory.
I'd like a ten minute 300 Weatherby Mag, such a sweet round
how about the 10.3x68?
I’m buying a new Tikka T3x in a few weeks but I’m in a toss up between the .243 and the 6.5 creedmoore
Would love to hear one on the 6.8SPC
According to Chuck Hawk‘s recoil table, a 375 Ruger weighing 8 ounces less, recoils 27% more than a 375 H&H, shooting a 300 grain projectile at 20 ft./s faster. This is why the 375 Ruger, along with availability of ammunition, is dead on the vine. There is absolutely no advantage to using this caliber, especially since there is only one rifle chambered for this round. Get yourself an M70 Winchester in 375 H&H. End of story.
375 Ruger is now priced at$105
Per 20 rounds of Hornady Outfitter
On Midway USA. Ok , if you're
Going to spend 20 grand on a
Grizzly hunt in Alaska it's peanuts.
But for the rest of us... Fagadda
Bout it.
I had the savage bear hunter in 338win and it was one of my favorite and most accurate rifles I loved it but stupidly I sold it to get another gun
I just won an 303 british unfired ruger no.1 im so pumpedddd
I'd like to hear more about 300 rum
325 WSM would be a good video
Do the ruger rcm cartridges or the rum
I could probably look this up myself, but I didn't. Has anyone heard reports of sticky bolts or extraction issues in Africa? Back in the day when 416 rem was a little bit of a thing I could go to the range on a hot July day just let my ammo and rifle sit in the sun and end up with both of those issues. Never had anything close to similar happen with 416 Rigby.
Andrew Russette never heard of sticky bolts running the 375... Now what some might find “sticky” is if they’re used to shooting a push feed action and go to controlled feed..
How about a 10 minute talk on the Ruger Compact Magnum family of cartridges.....
416 rem mag, trips my trigger!
10 minutes is not long enough to talk about the 270 Winchester.
Yes it is 270 isn't that great
416 Remington mag came from the 8mm mag not the 375 H@H
You’re right, but the 8mm Rem. Mag is an improved .375 H&H case, fwiw.
How about what the 375 did for the whole Lr scene (that plagues us today) in the 7mm LRM and Gunworks fame…and now the 300prc
416 Ruger!
404 Jeffery, 450-400 NE, and 416 Rigby please
I have a friend with a 300 h and h
450 Marlin!
.375 raptor vs. 8.6 blackout!
9.3x62 and 9.3x74r next
Do a 243 Winchester vs 6mm Creedmoor talk
Did you listen to our .243 episode? It kinda turned into that lol
Vortex Nation Podcast no I haven’t! I will have to check that out. Thank you!
Not the most popular cartridge, but with the growing popularity of the 300 WSM, why not discuss the 7 WSM or SAUM.
264 Winchester mag please
