  • On today's episode of The Senstennial Podcast, we discuss Ottawa trading defender Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenceman Nick Jensen and a 3rd round draft selection. We discuss why Chychrun fetched fewer assets than anticipated, where we see Jensen fitting into the Sens' blueline, and whether this balances out Ottawa's defensive corp for this coming season.
This is the third part of a six-part 2024 Sens off-season special!

Yeah that’s the issue with the trade. We didn’t maximize assets coming back by trading our biggest trade chip for a guy we could have got in FA. And like you say Sean walker is probably a better player than Jensen and younger. But whatever. He had a lot of work to do and he addressed pretty much everything. Jensen should be a good partner for chabot. But he’s 34 years old so won’t be around long. 2 years from now we’ll only have the third rnd pick to show from chychrun and all the assets we gave up to get him. One of those things we just have to forget and look forward. The lineup is improved overall.

Jensen is horrible on D and no O from the backend.

13:55. They would have looked at everything. So you’re likely right.

Yeah I went to Chychrun's debut game and the atmosphere at that game was electric. It was one of the best games I've been to. It's sad how quickly it soured but I think the trade was successful. In my opinion we don't need more offensive D players. Stutzle should be back up to form next season, we have a better goalie, and I think we have the skill needed to improve

    Should have kept DeMelo

Brannstrom needed a qualifying offer, hence he wasn't worth his price. Jensen trade is good, the market for Walker or Roy wasn't there, always easy to sign guys in theory when they actually don't want to come to Ottawa.

Brännström could've been signed for less than his QO if the Sens had wanted to go that route, but I'd heard that Sean Tierney was one of the only guys in the front office who wanted to keep Branny.
As for Walker/Roy, it's possible that they didn't want to come to Ottawa, but we truly don't know either way. I don't think that that makes the Chychrun trade "good," but here's hoping Jensen has a bounce back year and can bring some stability to Ottawa's blue line!

The guy was a -30, far worse than anyone else on the team and he is a defensemen , he wasn't worth much.

Well once u see Jensen you will see how poor he is at D and has no O and is older. Ha high on Jensen 😂

Jensen is horrible on D and has no O. He is a turnover over machine and older. Horrible trade for Sens.

Yeah. He didn't have a very good season last year. He had a great 2022-23 season, though, so I'm REALLY hoping he can return to form... we'll see.

Foolish to criticize a GM like GMSS and think that a guy like Walker would sign here for a couple hundred thousand more, not taking into account where the teams are in their growth curve and more importantly taxation on the contract….terribly bad take by Matt, sorry bud
