Caps fan here. Thanks for this video. Jensen has tons of heart. He plays his heart out every shift. He skates well and carries the puck around pretty well. His passes are decent. He has good hockey sense. He's an excellent bottom pair Dman. He gets outmatched physically when he plays a top 4 role. If you don’t ask too much of Jensen he helps the team win.
Hopefully Jensen has a healthy season and finds a good home in Ottawa.

Jensen isn’t great, but he’s solid. The Caps had an abundance of right shot defensemen and we needed to make room. Hopefully this trade works out well for both teams.

@@XaviRonaldo0Jensen wasn't very good this past season, but for the several seasons before this one his defensive metrics were excellent according to evolving hockey. Most of that time was playing with Orlov compared to Sandin/Edmondson this year. I'm thinking Chabot's skill level is more similar to Orlov's so there is reason to be optimistic they can be an effective pair.

I know a lot of people are negative on the return and I agree Washington probably gets the better deal, but Nick Jensen has a pretty long track record of very effective hockey. In the five seasons before 2023-24 his average xGAR per season was 8. This past season it was -3. If he has a bounce back year playing with a stronger partner this year than last (Chabot is much more similar to his partner in the previous 5 seasons, Orlov, than his partner this year in Sandin) that could be a very effective pairing. He fits Ottawa's needs much better and if Ottawa wasn't going to be able to get any of the legit top 4 RHD in free agency then this is a reasonable alternative.

Chick has a bomb of a shot and it was impressive finally watching him on the PP. But I have to correct your comment of him being physical and having a bit of an edge. Go on any Sens message boards after games and you will see comment after comment of people talking about Chick being as SOFT as jello in the sun. Which surprised everyone because hes built and jacked.
I mean he does a have a physical edge. He’s not known for it but he plays with a chip on his shoulder and will play feisty at times that’s for sure.

Obviously we did not replace him with a player anywhere near his talent but Staios must have known he could not re-sign him and took the best deal out there. We'll see what the draft pick gets us - you never know.
The most important thing is we didn’t get worse and filled a positional need. That’s all that really matters
As a caps fan, Jensen ain’t all that bad he isn’t the best offensively but skates really well and is pretty decent defensively I think he’ll work well with Sanderson or chabot
He's a turnover machine. Gets easily rattled in his own zone. He had one good year when he was paired with Chara
His skating looks incredible… let’s see how he does next to a Sanderson or Chabot 👀

Great content as always!! I'm fine with the trade. The Sens need legit RD. I've stopped comparing what happened with the old regime. I would say the Chychrun trade was a huge overpay by Pierre as he was NOT as advertised whatsoever. He couldn't play the right side if his life depended on it

Even if he wanted to stay they have no money to extend him. It’s a fine move. They’ll have to deal with Norris vs pinto. Can’t really keep both players

Disagree, Phaneuf’s style of play was pure physical defender… those guys deteriorate rapidly. Jensen is different. Let’s see what happens!

Don’t be disappointed, Jensen is exactly what we needs and brings intangibles to the table that Chychrun couldn’t
i was pumped when we got Ullmark, not I 'm pessimistic about the season. Seems like we are rebuilding the rebuild. We are starting to look like the Sabres
Even after the Pinto extension are you pessimistic? I think we’ve gotten better as a team these last couple of weeks.
@SENSTALK I don't think we needed to trade away Joseph if Pinto was resigned for only 3.75. I like the signing but I'm not a huge fan of our depth and defense. I think we will be better than last year especially if we find our offense again like in 2022-23. Do I think we are playoff bound? Definitely not. I suspect we finish 6th behind Detroit

@SENSTALK I guess that makes sense but still sad. I hope our goal tending and defense are good enough to carry us through to the playoffs. Do you think we will target a defenseman? There's not many options left at this point. I'd go for Tarasenko again lol
I think Staios taking too long to make decisions keeps bitting us in the butt. I believe Staios kept thinking he could get more and ended up losing out. It’s like the Tarasenko trade and we got nothing in return. Yes he got ullmark but there is no contract. I don’t believe he has done enough to make the team good enough and looks like Pinot is out. The team won’t make the playoffs and ullmark won’t sign and Brady will want out. Not a big fan of Staios so far.
Dorion burner same comment every time the sens do anything. Maybe staios ends up sucking but he’s not even had a year yet to do stuff and dorion is an all time worst GM so there’s lots to do.
I mean Pinto is now signed, we’ve added a RD, a top goalie, and some upgraded depth forwards …. I think he’s done a great job personally !
