We should've rode out his contract and let him play FA by then the Panthers may not have wanted him, lol. Wouldn't that be funny. I don't care about the whole 'be nice guy's' narrative so people will sign here. Nobody is ever going to want to sign here.....ever anyways so who cares. The Sens have too many players that are expected to put up points and not enough spots on the PP and the top 6 for them to all live up to expectations, so some of those guys cheat to try and get more points.. need a couple more 2 way forwards that are hard to play against and a good RH stay at home D to play with Chabot.. Did Vegas build a winning team through the draft? Not talking expansion draft

    • @thesenstennial
      @thesenstennial 2 месяца назад

      I think Vegas is more of the exception than the rule. They got to take advantage of a LOT of GMs who had never dealt with an expansion draft before, which allowed them to acquire ample draft capital and, in-turn, prospects that they were then able to flip for roster upgrades. Plus, being in a high attraction destination means more players are willing to either sign there in free agency or waive their NTC to go there. Ottawa does not have that luxury.

      Don’t really agree. He talks about basically building 100% out of the draft that never works. The sens pro scouting has been horrendous under PD and pretty much everyone brought in has been a failure, but it does take bringing in the right guys from trades/free agents. He says if you’re looking at the right now you kill your future. Ok, but if you are only looking at the future the right now is never there too.

    • @thesenstennial
      @thesenstennial 2 месяца назад

      The problem with DeBrincat is that Ottawa needed to "maximize" his trade value by sending somewhere where he would sign a contract extension. The trade wasn't great, but it'd probably have been even worse if they shipped him off to a team where he didn't want to re-sign.

  • @neilsunstrum933

    Completely disagree with the Forsburg take. Both goalie have games where they play very well but both goalies throw up absolute stinkers and continuously put sub 900 numbers and let in back breaking game ending goals. Even Sogaard was horrendous in that regard. The senators need a number one goalie, somebody they can depend on, and I think that their right defence is by far the weakest positions. I hope they go all in on a legitimate starting goaltender. Having someone dependable in net is everything. These guys cannot stop the momentum swings, and the team plays like such.

    • @thesenstennial
      @thesenstennial 2 месяца назад

      Hi Neil. We did discuss this in our previous episode. Ottawa definitely needs to try and draft a highly regarded goalie, because they rarely appear in free agency or the trade market (Saros appears to be the exception, but the asking price for him seems astronomical).

The one in Montreal sticks out as we were harassed the entire game and had a group of 10 guys wanting to fight at the concession stand walking out of the game and constant horns blaring and people yelling out the window at us as I was in full Sens gear. Sens will heat up the second half and still missed the playoffs by 10 points and probably end up in the 12 to 15 range for a pick. I still don't think this group has what it takes to be a playoff team. Norris has been a massive disappointment and is nowhere near earning even half of his contract. Great podcast mate, being in the UK I wasn't able to watch this live sadly but great content. We must remember that there has been a lot of roster upheaval this season with injuries and line change combinations. I wouldn't say that there has been a regression more of a fear of failure in that a player is less likely to go for that killer pass because it might be intercepted, and the team is scored on. They look lost out there when they go behind and in previous seasons you always thought that if they were a few goals down there was still a chance. Not this season, everyone is just doing their specific job and not taking risks so that they are not singled out for blame in a game. Sanderson has had to step up this season with Chabot injured a few times and also having different line combinations, it's the guy's second proper season, and he’s been great in pretty much every game. We need to remember that these players are all young (minus the obvious players of course) and that a few bad games doesn’t make them bad players or duds. A new voice will help and allow these guys to have a fresh start and just go for it. Will still have a few games in hand which is good aswell as there's something to still chase down. Korpasalo I want to take the ball and run with it, but he has given up some bad goals in the last few games. With a sustained run in the net, we will see his confidence grow and also give the defence a much-needed boost that they are going to get a save if an opponent manages to get a shot off. Great video mate, not aimed at you at all in this post but I have read, watched, and listened to a lot of player bashing in the last 24 hours, this is a good team and just needed a new start with fresh ideas. GO SENS GO!!!!!

      Thank you for the comment! Love the positivity and optimism. Here's hoping that Jacques Martin can fine tune the details of the team and get them back on track. Having Alfie behind the bench is huge, too. Glad you enjoyed the podcast!

    I just hope people don’t expect changes right away. These guys have some nasty bad habits that need to be broken. Working on the pk isn’t the first thing they work on. Getting the centres to play a defensive game. These guys are bad. The best player on the team is Joseph and we were calling for his head in august

      Yeah. I mentioned during the stream that we'll have a better evaluation around the 20-30 game mark of Jacques' stint here. Some players need to get back to the defensive prowess they had a couple of seasons ago. Especially guys like Norris and Batherson. Would love to see their defensive games re-emerge.
