Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who is the founder of the Transcendental Meditation technique explains why he came down from the Himalayas in order to teach his technique to the world.
It's the nature of life to progress. A small young child sees the yellow car on the road and has to go and tell his mummy, "look a yellow car!" Teaching is a very natural profession. Motivated by this natural tendency of teaching, Maharishi couldn't help but to come out of the Himalayas to teach Transcendental Meditation. Having received this knowledge from his master it wasn't possible to stay there.
This video was filmed at Humboldt College in 1972 and is used with permission from Maharishi Foundation USA.

Please tell me what does one do when she knows the meaning of the mantra before it is given ? I am familiar with the meaning of the Vedic mantras and sounds. I have always desired to learn this method since 1973. and now with reduced fees I am able to.

congratulations. very good. ask the TM teacher. the mantras literally have no meaning. Some of the sounds, it is known what the effect is, but that is different from meaning. If you hear hahaha, it has an effect. but what is the meaning of hahaha?

@@earthspirit516 The mantra has a meaning, but the meaning is not so important. It is the sound which is important. The meaning is incidental. It describes the various qualities of the mantra.
If I utter a word that you do not understand, if you ask me the meaning I can give it any meaning. That is how all language was made. People uttered some sound and gave it any meaning they wanted. Because we have all learnt the same language, we use that. But if we as a community decide amongst ourselves, we could make it in such a way that when you say “yes” it means no. When you say “no” it means yes. We can change the language. A lot of people have! Many of you are married. When they say “yes” it means no, when they say “no” it means yes!
What is important is the impact of the sound. If you allow the sound to work upon you, it will break down walls and lead you in a certain direction. So you just have to listen to the mantra or chant, the meaning does not matter.

Because he could not get peace at himalayas, he left. Because he couldn't bear solitude, he left.
It is not our innate tendency to teach but to express which we perceive through senses.
You are not teaching the reality but expressing your views of what you experienced which is another facet of reality but not ultimate.

No, he left because his mission given by eternal God was to spread the Knowledge and not to keep it for himself, spread Gods Knowledge and Power all over the world. And he did.

wow, at last a true believer of MM yogi replied. I expected that this way of reply. Then the question comes who is eternal God and when that God knowledge and power is all over the world, what is the need of telling and spreading that knowledge. Everywhere if it is there then even in ignorant, foolish or illiterate or whatever you say then to whom his mission is, is it for Himself or for His Eternal God? If it is for Himself I don't question any more. If it is for God then I have several remarks. Please don't consider this as criticism. But my reasoning for self gratification.

Arun Kanth Yes you are right....But it is all, for Self gratification, the whole Universe. I appreciate your efforts for intellectual purity, can it not be as simple a reason as he explained himself (Maharishi), in his own words?
Maharishi has written a small book called Love and God. In this book he defends himself to God saying:
      "......My Lord
      And I know
When I begin, I begin so abruptly,
      I know now
When I began I began so abruptly,
From the loudest note I began.
For I could not sing it low
      Thy grace of Eternity.
      The Glory of Eternity
I could not sing it low.
      The Glory of eternal Life
I know not how to sing it low.
So I blew my trumpet full!
      It echoed round the world
How it sounded to Thee, I do not know,
But to me it has been fun
A real fun of greatest joy
      A real, good great fun.
      Yes
      My Lord......" (MMY)
Arun? We humans cannot help ourselves but to communicate...the good the bad and the eternal? Of course it is selfish...there is only the Self.

Yes, Mr. Stig...got it. It sounded me in my own perception.
There is a saying....Be selective in your battles sometimes, Peace is better than being right...Fun, Love, Harmony and Peace.
So, you directly hitting the Self...the concept of Advaita...A debatable communication between the Self(s) but not itch...

Possibly your perception is from that of the ego. It is hard to see and know of suffering when you have the ability/Knowledge to serve. Also, as I have read, his teacher (Brahmananda Saraswati )told him to take these teachings to the world. In essence, he was following his teachers wishes as well. But none of this really matters. You don't question and analyse why your Math teacher decided to teach you Math do you? He is offering you a tool to improve your life. Take it or leave it. Many of his lectures regarding TM he will state it is universal. It is not a religion on it's own, but will enhance your personal experience regardless of religious choice.
