- This is Hearthstone Castle in Danbury CT. An abandoned castle that is now part of Tarrywile Park, a large Connecticut public park that has seven acres with hiking trails, picnic areas, playground areas, a stream, fields and bird sanctuary. It was built between 1895 and 1899 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It had three floors and sixteen rooms and was fully occupied up until 1987 when it was sold to the City of Danbury.
You can read the entire history on Wikipedia which lists all the owners, it's quite interesting. I figured I would try to metal detect where they removed the wooden floorboards along the perimeter but didn't find anything of value. I didn't metal detect long though because there were many pieces of scrap metal as I expected. Someday I'll find that elusive gold coin. I can now take Hearthstone Castle off my bucket list. Thanks for watching.
I used to go to Danbury quite a few times with my dad when U was a kid but never knew there was a castle there. Awesome explore
Thanks
I used to visit this place all the time when I was in my 20’s. I could tell a few strange stories
Where you first climbed down in and set your metal set down, that portion was the kitchen I believe.
We use to sneak into it before they gutted it. Had all these cool floors and kitchen was at the bottom. Really creeepy place
I would have liked to see that. Thanks for the comment. That's why I like making these videos, before the places are gone or destroyed.
I grew up down the road my parents were friends with the previous owners and i actually was inside as a kid when they still lived there it used to be real nice sad to see it now
Thanks for the information. It really got destroyed fast. I think they were still living in there in the 1980's. Once the roof starts leaking it's all over for a house. Take Care...
@@imaginaryfriendsadventureclub yep it was the mid 80's when I went there the people's name was Jennings
I lived on Brushy Hill and my parents were friends with one of the Jennings. We used to play here. If I remember right, it wasn’t a walkway that went around it but a huge porch. I helped clean it out after it was unoccupied. So many memories at this place.
It had to be early 80’s because I moved away in 86 and it had been empty a while by then.
Born and raised in Connecticut here, and live in Colchester. I wonder if there are any hidden, abandoned buildings around here for someone to explore. I mean, there's gotta be, its Connecticut, old as hell
I'm sure there are some in your town. I notice the more I look for them, the more I find. I'll have to look into Colchester as well.
