  • Hearthstone Castle was built between 1895-1899. The castle was built by E. Starr Sanford, who invented an early movie camera. All of the rock that was used to build the castle was taken from the Tarrywile property, and transported on a small railroad, built inside of Tarrywile for just this purpose. All of the wood used in the building of the castle was brought in from Italy. All of the wrought iron chandeliers, lamps, and wall sconces were made in Danbury by Cephas B. Rodgers Co. The last people to live there moved out in 1987. The Tarrywile Estate was then sold to the town of Danbury. The castle was not well maintained under Danbury's ownership, and the roof has collapsed in 2004 and now lays abandoned and in complete disrepair.

I went there about 17 yrs ago . it was also abandoned then ,obviously. The master bathroom shower had 21 nozzles in it.pretty cool for the time it was built.

I'm going on an abandoned spree with my dad so I'm excited! This might be added to our list!

Awesome video. I want to go here soon. You trusted the floors enough to stand on them?

used to be a lot of old slave houses . I wonder if they're still there? as a teenager in high school I spent plenty of time hanging out up there.
