That's the genius of this segment! Monokuma teases you with the idea that it's beatable, and in truth it actually is! (solely by technicality, I'd insist) But it's so extraordinarily difficult that most of the students decide it isn't worth the effort and try to just get along and find another way out even though they secretly know that this is the only exit they'll find in a LONG time; thus plunging them into despair. It's a commentary on how we as a society would rather go on lying to ourselves because seeking the truth is far more difficult, and may not even turn out the way we expect it to. So, in other words, it's easier to pretend we accept each other than to genuinely accept each other, and we all agree the world would be better off this way despite not knowing exactly how much better the world would actually be.

Are they on the moon? Has Kaito fulfilled his lifelong dream? Is the world actually not in despair, and is just normal? (Based on Kaede's reaction, no). It is a good Easter Egg.

anyone on the development team that had a role in implementing this mini-game deserves to put through an irl version of this dungeon with ice covering the floor to match the (poor) momentum-based mechanics, with of course the penalties being permanent
I loved it when Himiko, Ouma, and Angie were jumping, also, at some point, it was Kaito and Saihara, Kaito dying before Saihara signifies that he's not Kaede's secondary protagonist
if we stop to think Chiaki would win the killing games because technically it's something that can be considered a game, so ... maybe the real Chiaki would be one of the few people to create the perfect murder required for victory? (I know the limits to electronic games only thought it would be an interesting excuse for his execution on Danganronpa 3 in addition to taking his classmates to despair, as a way for Junko to prevent the frustration of his plans or something.)

God, i just realized that it's a pure game of teamwork: your lives is not some red hearts on the screen, it's the characters you play as. Most of them will still fail, but they're making the work easier for each other by going further and opening the doors as far as they can (and when more characters are pushing at the door - it starts opening faster). The more characters you have - the higher is the chance that you will succeed in the end. And when you WILL succeed - it will be something that wouldn't be possible without all that characters and them helping each other. I love it. GO TEAMWORK!
Spoilers: To clear up misunderstanding, the outside world is in ruins. The game over screen then happened because there is no oxegen in the outside world.
"No way..." "The outside world is even better than I imagined! *cue sparkly eyes*" You're welcome. Now, you can have that ending you've always wanted. :)
Imagine if it continued after this point. The first motive for the first trial wouldn't work since they've already seen the outside, but they'd still need someone dead if someone like Kaito convinces them to continue and the killer could try to survive on the outside. Kirumi wouldn't need to save her country from disaster because she knows its to late. Motive three could be used to resurrect the person killed in the first trial, although Korekiyo might not be stopped in which case he and his victims die. Maybe the butterfly effect will reach this trial. Trial four wouldn't occur since everyone is on the same page, except maybe for Ouma since he could figure out that someone's watching. At the end of the game, you could have saved five extra people, and nine if you stop Korekiyo.

God, i just realized that it's a pure game of teamwork: your lives is not some red hearts on the screen, it's the characters you play as. Most of them will still fail, but they're making the work easier for each other by going further and opening the doors as far as they can (and when more characters are pushing at the door - it starts opening faster). The more characters you have - the higher is the chance that you will succeed in the end. And when you WILL succeed - it will be something that wouldn't be possible without all that characters and them helping each other.
I love it. GO TEAMWORK!

Imagine if it continued after this point. The first motive for the first trial wouldn't work since they've already seen the outside, but they'd still need someone dead if someone like Kaito convinces them to continue and the killer could try to survive on the outside. Kirumi wouldn't need to save her country from disaster because she knows its to late. Motive three could be used to resurrect the person killed in the first trial, although Korekiyo might not be stopped in which case he and his victims die. Maybe the butterfly effect will reach this trial. Trial four wouldn't occur since everyone is on the same page, except maybe for Ouma since he could figure out that someone's watching. At the end of the game, you could have saved five extra people, and nine if you stop Korekiyo.
Wow.. imagine if that actually happens and you can save 9 extra people, thats like 12 survivors
I like how Kiyo's just like "So this is the end?"
