Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies - Soft, Old- Fashioned Cookies- Just Add a Glass of Milk!

- Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
3/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup Crisco shortening, room temperature
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated (white) sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 cup Quick Cooking Oats
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a bowl, beat together butter and shortening with your mixer on medium-high speed for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt. Beat until the mixture is combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Beat in the flour a little at a time. With a spatula, scrape down the sides of the bowl and fold/stir in by hand the chocolate chips and oats.
Scoop dough by rounded 3 tablespoons onto a parchment paper line cookie sheet. Flatten the dough balls slightly with the palm of your hand so the cookies are round and about a quarter of an inch thick. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are light brown. Watch closely. Do not overbake.

I love the way Melissa changed her mind on a bite so fast. They must really be good. My granddaughter loves coming over and making cookies with me so I'll have to add this to our next to do list. Oh and I always have cookie dough in my freezer. With 16 grandkids and 4 great grands (No I'm not that old I was very young when I had my kids) you have to have warm cookies readily available or they think Nana must not be feeling well lol...

Can you go thru the freezing of the cookies and things like that so they don’t get freezer burn.
@@lorisutherland7728 I make the cookies up to the point of putting them in the over and then I flash freeze them so they don't stick together. I normally don't freeze baked cookies although I'm sure you could. I usually vacuum seal mine and they last for quite a while. I've actually had them for over a year like that in the freezer and they were still good. If you use just a freezer bag, I would get as much of the air out as possible and use them within 3-4 months. You do have to add a couple more minutes to the baking time if you go right from freezer to oven. I hope that helps.
@@monnanugent8168 thank you! The flash freeze is you put them in the freezer before putting them in a package? To keep them frozen for a while.
If only I could get my husband to stop eating the frozen cookie dough. 😂 I love making extra to have frozen. Sometimes I freeze the baked cookies. They are great out of the freezer.

I’ve had my Kitchen Aid for probably 30+ years, mine was running too fast on low so my husband who can fix anything found out the speed control needed changing. Got the part on the internet for a few dollars and that did the trick! ❤I love oatmeal cookies … as we say in the Deep South… you flung a cravin on me!! Haha

Tom crisco makes a butter flavor will that work for having to use butter and crisco? Also I have original oatmeal will that work the same way as the quick oats?

I grew up with a Mama who was sweet enough to save some dough on the beaters for me to get off, eat and enjoy. People so don't recommend doing that anymore if there are raw eggs in the dough but I have been licking the beaters clean of cookie and cake dough for most of my life (and I am older than y'all😂) without adverse effects 😊. It's part of the joys of baking as far as I'm concerned 😊 Thanks for sharing another yummy cookie 🍪 recipe.

Thank you. This seems like a good alternative to the traditional cowboy oat cookies I grew up with. With mostly oats they fell apart too quickly
We like that these are thick but not crumbly. They are a nice quality cookie.
Sugar intake is a big thing in my family. I'm going to cut the sugar to 1/3 cup each and replace the difference with tapioca flour. Will See.....

My 2nd oldest sister and I baked for the family all the time. Everytime we made cookies, we had to make a double batch just so the cookies might last one week. They always only lasted barely 5 days. But the 2 of us got first dibs on those cookies. The privilege of baking.
We made all kinds of things: Banana Cream Pies, Toffee, Peanut Brittle, French Toast, Cookies,
and Cream Puffs.

I love cookies. If you want just a little something sweet, a good cookie is a great thing to have. I love the idea of freezing them and taking one out of the freezer and cooking just what you want. I have been buying the Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookies the cookie dough you can eat and sometimes just eat a raw cookie for something sweet. When I cook them, I cut them in half then I have a smaller cookie. LOL I enjoy your recipes so much. I copy/paste them and print them off so I will have them. I need to get me another notebook and fix my recipes. Thank you for sharing your amazing recipes.

Good recipe. I make a Ranger cookie that has oatmeal and cornflakes. All butter. No shortening. Delicious. Just chocolate chips and no other add ins.

That's a great way to sell them, actually. Ours may be too, but the packaging describes them as large, extra large or jumbo eggs, etc.

I love doing large batches of cookies and freezing, like you showed. It’s just my husband and me. Our oldest son lives nearby but the other kids and grandkids are elsewhere in the state. Pulling out a few cookies to bake is so convenient and So Much Better than the store bought ready to bakes. This looks like a good one to put in my cookie book. I have always loved Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. These seem to be just as the title indicates, more about the chocolate chips and the oatmeal plays a secondary roll. Nice.

I added a half cup of dried cranberries to the recipe, and made them smaller. Baked for about 13 minutes, and my boyfriend raved about it . Came out very soft and delicious.

Tom I have a kitchen aid that’s 25 yrs old ,still like new it doesn’t clang and bang like yours . It doesn’t jump around despite not having the stabilizer like yours .it does throw the flour around sometimes

I much prefer chocolate chip oatmeal cookies to ones with raisins. I think my taste buds see the black spots and believe they are chocolate chips and my sweet tooth kicks in. Then I'm disappointed when they end up with raisins.

I really enjoy your channel. RE your mixer, it appears you don’t have the mixer locked down on the side I see in the video. This leaves the mixer lose and it jumps around when mixing. I hope this helps with not throwing flour out. Best wishes!

This is the old recipe from Betty Crocker Way back in the day and I mean way back there Tom and the only difference is not the chocolate chips it called for either chopped pecans or walnuts. Great recipe. By the way, Betty Crocker changed that recipe a while back. It is not the same recipe as they had a long time ago which that was stupid because that recipe they had back there. The one that you’re working on is killer it is really a good cookie.
