The woman killed in Lynwood because of a tree coming down on a homeless encampment, and washingtonian just shrugged and whined more losing a fence or having their cars scratched up by limbs or real upsetment if a tree fell on their insuranced covered car. This death is a prime example of why, those fighting to end homeless encampments or sleeping where one pleases, keeps pointing out the safety issues if living in a tent cardboard box or under a tarp. Its one thing to do it for a few days on a vacation when, shoukd the weather yurn you can pack up and check into a hotel. Just like any other freedom of choice issue, if a person does not want the responsibility of owning or renting, wants nothing holding them bsckfrom movinhg from area to area, in other words does not want to be 'domiciled ' that is their choice However for the safety if all, the homeless and the community, the town or city or the state, laws need to be changed making all the different options that have bern used to get around the basic camping only in designated areas, such as city, state, nationagl camp grounds and they should be constrained and available fir someone to camp in for a limited number of days. If you cant camp anywhere you please then you need to have a bed in a shelter for the night. If you do not at the first encounter catching trying to live on the streets, police, through dispatchers or a shelter hotline can assist the person to the shelter. If they reject placement at a shelter, or leave the shelter and return to thr streets they csn spend the night in a police holding cell and released with a social worker referral in the morning. Although one assumes being parted from possessions and housed in a holding cell would not be something one would want to repeat but if they will not1 avail themselves of a shelter bed then thats the option the next time. As to how msny times this can happen before it becomes a crime and more petmanent housing, would be a discussion
