I looked at the trader. I decided to go with the pit boss 850 pro series due to the fact that the pit boss uses 14 gauge steel. T ragers aren’t that thick. Nice grill though. Not sure what the rager weighs but my pit boss is right around 200 lbs.
@@TimbosFoodBox thanks for your comment! Really appreciate it! The reason that I went with the pit boss 850 was that the steel used is 14 gauge steel. Not 16 gauge. The door is no joke. It’s heavy. Nothing wrong with trager but I just felt like the boss had a lot more to offer. PA
If you really want to get some smokey flavor with a Traeger 575, you have to get a smoke tube. You add pellets (some even cut-up charcoal) and you place it on the grill next to your food to impart the smokey flavor. That is the best way to do it other than going full charcoal briquette-based grill. And not all pellets are equal, and Traeger pellets are very bland. I look at it like a Car manufacturer... Sure Ford makes a F150, but it isn't the best anything. You can always buy better fuel lines, alternator, battery, tires, radio, suspension, etc. But the one they do provide is a good POC (proof of concept) and works ok, no problems. The other problem is Traeger pellets are hardwood, and then they add an oil for whatever the type is (like cherry oil for the cherry wood etc). Whereas other companies give you real cherry wood, and the most fragrant part of the tree. I won't spoil you with brands, as it's user based but if you look on youtube or forums, you can easily see the same brands that are on top. There's even charcoal pellets that give you about 90% of the same affect as charcoal briquettes. I would put those in the smoker tube and hopper, or mix the hopper with something else.
My longer cooks on lower temperature settings create amazing. Smoker rings. But I’ll look into the smoke tube and see if I can do a comparison. Thanks for the information.
Thank you for the heads up, don’t do a lot of product reviews more about the meat. And then I have some tools that use along the way, but I’ll keep this in mind for future videos.
Not sure how you were able to install the shelf. PLEASE READ. I have the same unit. There are four (4) screws-two on the left and two on the right side of the grill, just almost even with the opening. The two screws at the left have a none removable locking nut of some kind that does not come off. On the right side, only one screw comes out. The other one has one of those locking nuts on it. However, there is a sheet metal liner that is none removable which makes it impossible to access the screw with the lock nut. Follow me here. I called Traeger Tech support and after almost two hours on the phone and 6 photos emailed. They just did not get it and their fix, they are sending me a free impact wrench...WTH. I do not think Treager knows about this because no one has complained. I am going back to Home Depot to look at other floor models to see if they have that liner on the right side where the hopper is. I'm not sure if that side gets too hot for the electronics or what the purpose of that liner is. You can see it in your video So it really sucks that I have to return this unit or re-engineer it myself so I can have the shelf.

It took a few tries, but I figured it out. And it works great so far.
