I live in Arizona and perform in the beautiful city of Scottsdale. Nicknamed the West's most Western town, Old town Scottsdale is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The art and architecture recreate the ambiance of the old West. Which is why I chose a cowboy as my character! I blend right in.
Needless to say, Arizona is a desert and the weather makes it too hot to perform most of the year. December to April are the only months when I might have a chance to perform on weekends.
This is my Social experiment
I am an artist and this is my interpretation of interactive art.
Attempting to pose in public as a bronze statue is a challenge. The last thing I want is to appear like a person who thinks they look like a statue. I've seen 'living statues before and I wasn't fooled and I think I can't be fooled. In fact, I'll bet whoever is reading this doesn't think they could be fooled either.
That is what everyone in my videos said before meeting me.
I don't hand out business cards or promote RUclips while performing. It only invites conversation which I avoid for the sake of the next opportunity which I wouldn't want to spoil.
I first tried this just to see if it was even possible.
THIS IS NOT A 'PRANK" Scaring people is not my intention. I am not out to invade people's 'space', shout or yell 'boo!' at people who are minding their own business. (unless I am bored) I prefer to be called amazing, not #$#&!!. Many more people pass by oblivious, to my presence.
I just sit and mind my own business. I believe using this unique approach is why I am welcomed and supported by the city.
Have I ever upset anyone?
I have never had a negative reaction, well once.
I've never been intentionally hit, or been bitten by a dog. No heart attacks. Using my approach, I am not to blame if someone mistakes me for a statue. It's not my fault.
Besides, everyone is too busy laughing.
I make a one in a million moment possible and who the lucky person is totally at random.
Timing is not up to me most of the time. Most people touch me as they sit and realize something is up before the right time. Each person is different and I try to wait for the right time to reveal myself. Sometimes they get away before I make my move.
I am sorry for the quality of the video. Filming was an after thought and my lack of experience shows. Also, the way I concealed my camera interfered with the sound and picture. I have spent money on a new camera and it was problematic and ultimately stopped functioning.. I have used an old Canon that has never failed me. I can sacrifice the quality if it means confidence that I'm capturing the moment with a camera that is reliable.
My costume is just old clothes and A LOT of paint. Metallic Bronze paint. Nothing special. For make up I use black eyeliner for a base and metallic creme makeup. I create texture using a small screen.
It takes under an hour to be ready to go. Removing the makeup using soap and water is what takes hours.

I know he does this in the cooler weather in Arizona, but he still must be sweltering under those clothes that are sealed with some sort of paint and don't breathe any more, plus the solid thick make-up on his face. I wouldn't be able to do it. Kudos to him for being able to not move at all and stay cool, calm and collected while sitting there for hours.

This is more "Reality TV" . . . than Reality TV! It's like . . . you make America look good . . . and America makes you look good. Unique in this episode was the woman who waved back at "the statue" without realizing it and then was freaked out! That was a neat one. So was the "Are you happy now" girl. I truly hope these parents know just how exceptional their children are and don't take these special moments for granted. Your way with the kids is a pleasure to behold Keith!
I'm also grateful for the vid I viewed recently by a 3rd party where more of your story unfolded and I saw you for the first time out-of-uniform. (I won't share the link; people can hunt for it if they wish). I truly hope things are working out well for you and yours.
Your artform has caused you to become a very intimate part of so many people's lives. And that's something unique in today's world considering there are no spotlights or Academy awards or official recognition.

This year, February 2023 a family found me and showed me a picture of me surprising a little boy who looked about 3 or 4 years old. The same boy, now 14 or 15 sat for another picture with me! I couldn't believe it. So many years of memories I had no idea I was making all the time, good memories to boot!

I would say that the set-up & reaction at 17:05 or so is possibly my favorite reaction in the video.
An interesting commentary on how sometimes people can be frightened of doing something - like trying to achieve one's goals or going after a new project and then eventually warming up to it. It's like a metaphor for life, in overcoming fear :-)
and the fun part is (after seeing most of his videos) that it wasn´t a set up.. 90% of the times BC is sitting relaxed with his eyes closed and doesn´t move until someone either poking on him or sits down next to him..that´s why even those just passing by get´s the surprise of their life when he moves.. and as seen in this vid, sometimes a couple passing by, and only one of them sees him moving..and then he sits deadstill again wich leads to that the other one doesn´t believe he moved.. :)
