    Those beamng devs surely must be feeling fortunate having this enthusiastic community! I too wonder if they watch videos and take note of the feedback from people...
    So anyway, your video got linked by nadeox in our internal dev chat \o/ The video has definitely brightened this sunday night for me; positive feedback is always a welcome boost in morale, and it pushes us to continue trying our best. So from one of those remote devs (saludos from spain), and on behalf of the whole dev team, thanks everyone, even you weirdos who hate the wydra, for your constant amazing support!

      It's because they make BeamNG out of passion, not greed. They could've easily made big maps that were later added like Italy a paid DLC and in today's gaming economy that would seem quite logical. They however, seem like people who find money as a cool litte bonus from making the game. BeamNG is really like an old school game in the way that you buy the game and that's it. You literally get the whole game. And that's why we love the devs so much, because at this point everything they add in the game feels like a gift from them to us. Just look at the game's price. It costs less than most half-assed projects in Unity that constantly pop up on Steam.

      I think the only thing Beam really lacks for being a perfect All-in-one simulation happens to be dynamic weather. Even iRacing of all Sims got it this year. We know it's a dog to get done, but I strongly think it should be along the lines to get done; even if it's very late. iRacing took almost 15 years to finally implement, after 2 or 3 years of development. (and they got it pretty close).
      I also know that there is A LOT more for the Beam dev team to consider for dynamic weather, especially given that Beam overall has far more terrain types than iRacing has.
      Okay and this is just me wishful thinking: Beam NG's node system for crash physics to iRacing, when? 😁😁

    I don't think I would be the same since not only is BeamNG fun but also taught me so much (and when I get a wheel, will teach me much more) about cars and how they work.
    First watching yt videos about it both the trailers and Ybr videos. I was instantly into it. Now the game has progressed so far with the determination and sheer will of the devs and the community. It's why BeamNG is getting so much more fame now, because of the community's involvement, while I am kind of sad that usually people know this as a car crashing game, I'm happy that the game is getting the fame it deserves. This approach to community feedback and taking good suggestions is so nice. It's one of the best things that I think can happen between a studio and the community that plays its games. I think it also speaks to the quality of the community when they can come up with really good ideas and make real, substantive critiques and not just dogpile that the game sucks or whatever.
    As for myself, I don't really interact with the community much as I mostly keep to myself and play beam once every few updates. What I can say though is that every time I come back to the game I find so much new and interesting stuff. Often in places I would normally not be excited about. Like the offroad van, I don't do offroading ever, but I spend a few hours driving that thing around the desert trails having a great time.
    The only thing that I think this game needs is for the dev team to keep going as they have been so far. Clearly this is a very good way to keep the game fresh and to keep the community enthusiastic engaged. There aren't many games with as good a community, or as good a Dev team as Beam has, it's kinda the opposite of EA or Ubisoft. In a great way of course!
    PS to the devs: I think beam has the best motion blur implementation in any modern game, it's actually fantastic. Only game where I leave it turned on.

    BeamNG's developers are the only "car guys making a game for car guys". Every other car game company is ran by people that don't care about the community. Sir Skyfall,
    I am glad your channel is growing as fast as it has been. I too am a beam NG RUclipsr who puts hundreds of editing hours into some of my videos, and understand how difficult it can be to edit. Then how frustrating it can be to post the videos only to see a yt short of some rainbow car crashing into a sign and getting millions of views. So I'm glad your growing and hope you continue to gain more subs, views, likes, etc as you definitely do deserve them as do the rest of us beam NG content creators do who pour hours of effort into videos.

I love the variety of cars, maps, racing disciplines, activities, and even the nods to other games and media. Now, 9 years later, i still play the game regularly. With 800+ hours it's by far my most played game in my steam library (i think only Minecraft can beat this) and no other game has managed to keep my attention for so long.
    The Carrer mode was announced so many years ago and finally playing the W.I.P Career mode just makes me happy and excited about the future!

    Don't get me wrong, the Beam devs are great, but they never always used to be like this. I remember a time when reasonable requests would be met with "check the FAQ" "we can't do that" "we'd be better optimising the game instead" "this is not possible within the limits of the game engine" etc.
    I recall one of those things was opening doors. As usual someone modded it in and proved it was possible and they followed suit.
    Updates would break all the user generated content for the sake of fixing an invisible graphics bug on a 20 year old GPU that can't even run the game. It was so frustrating.
    I'm glad they switched things up and changed for the best. I am now genuinely excited to see what the future holds in store for the game.

    The fact they are involving the modding community so heavily into the game's development (hiring them, promoting their content, taking notes and collaborating, listening to input and actually using the input) says waves about how much the devs care about this game. More so, speaks volumes for where the game will go in the future.

  • @dakaodo
    @dakaodo 4 месяца назад

    I love BeamNG's approach to design, work, and collaboration. For years, I could only infer some of these things from seeing the way they released updates (a big one is one game purchase entitles the player to a lifetime of base game updates for as long as people continue to be interested in the game). The team live out so many business/organizational best practices that others may mention but not actually live and breathe on the daily.
    That said, I think a number of small to mid sized indie game devs all share a spot on the same spectrum as BeamNG. This in no way detracts from the amazing game/community/work environment the BeamNG team have built, and they are definitely one of the if not the most amazing example. I think any smaller studio that's strapped for all resources (cash, manpower, skills, assets) that happens to believe in a vision HAS to reach out to modders, outsourcing, and a community that shares the devs' passion and vision. I'm undoubtedly limited to survivorship bias, since I can't be aware of the many failed projects out there, but some other games with similarly fluid and interconnected communities and devs are: Project Zomboid, Rimworld, Space Engineers, Arma 3.
    My big gaming phase peaked nearly a decade ago, so I am sure that I have missed a number of other games with similarly passionate and involved/responsive devs and communities that came before and after my small gaming window.
    I think that most of these other games/devs share at least some if not many of the same attributes you've described here. One thing that all of them do share is a strong commitment to supporting community modding. In pure business terms, it's leveraging dev time that is unpaid by the studio. A lot of the work is done for free by players and modders. Some of it is paid for by players who commission coding work on the games' marketplaces. In practice, the most passionate players are better able to realize and enjoy the content or lesser features they want in a game (to the extent possible short of actually controlling the dev studio and making fundamental changes to the core engine and framework). This frees up the dev studio's resources to focus a bit more on making fundamental changes and improvements to the core engine and framework as necessary and as they are able to within the engine's limits, to further support the community.
    It could go horribly wrong as anything can, if corporate bean counters get a hold of the process and try to make it a cash grab. But that's fine so long as all these games remain too small, too ornery/contrarian, or otherwisee too unprofitable for someone like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft, etc to attempt to buy them out. And TBF, some of the most-hated publishers used to be small-time publishers themselves, 30+ years ago. Sometimes you live long enough to become the villain. XD

  • @xymaryai8283
    @xymaryai8283 6 месяцев назад

    remember that the devs have passions, just as much as the community wants something, the devs want to make things they like too. if they are passionate about offroading, don't get upset and think they've abandoned onroad driving, let them have fun, you can always suggest anything you want, but development takes much longer than ideating.

    Ever since I realized around 2020 that Minecraft just won't do I formed my opinion and have been keeping it to this day. Best game dev team ever: Wube Software, creators of Factorio. Second best game dev team ever: BeamNG. There's a reason both games are incredibly good, long-term in development, seemingly niche, but also incredibly popular and well made, loved by many. I'm sure that as time goes on more and more kids grow up with those two. Both are great for developing minds, Factorio teaches you high level concepts in software engineering without even trying, BeamNG teaches you physics. I love every detail in that game. From the oil starvation smoke to exhaust separation causing loudness of the engine. It's insane!
