Rush "Cygnus X-1": Drums!!!

  • Well, here's one of these legendary Rush songs, the great Cygnus X-1 from "A Farewell To Kings". This song is just plain nuts on the drums at places, in particular when the space ship is falling into the black hole in the last part of the song..... As a professional astrophysicist, this is a special song for me since, of course, the subject is very much related to stuff I do for a living... ;) [This is why I kept the long introduction, even if there are no drums; it's just a nice astronomy lesson... Drumming starts at around 2:00. ]. Not perfect and I had to practice that one quite a bit. For this song, I really wish I still had my old double-bass drum setup; it's would be "easier" to play certain fills I think. Anyway, enjoy!

The reason why I started doing these videos in the first place was to pay tribute to him so I'm glad it worked for you, although there is nothing better than to watch the master himself... ;)

You're damned good. They say that drummers don't learn to play, they're born into it. You were born right for it. And those Tama drums sound great. That part starting at 8:11 is magnificent.

I just love the sci-fi feel of some of the rush songs like this one. Especially the necromancer. The necromancer was a long but great song to listen to. I truely give full respect to this band and what they have done from the early 70's to even now. They just released a new album called clockwork angels and cant wait to hear what the new rush sounds like.
