Rush is my occasional reminder that human perfection does indeed exist. They never accepted the phrase "never let perfection get in the way of good enough". There was no "good enough" for Rush. Only perfection.
That audience must've lost their marbles when this came up. Holy crap. This DVD sat me down and reminded me what a Rush fan I was years after I had been adrift. I am very sorry. VERY SORRY to have ever wandered away from RUSH.
Pheminon I doubt it, those high notes at the end of the song are pretty hard to pull off, some of the highs he does throughout they're catalog are just F'n inhuman, they're almost king diamond-ish xD is quite sad though, I really love Geddy's voice, and yeah, I know his voice is starting to show signs of fatigue, but who can blame him, I'd like to see someone else tour incessantly for well over 40 years pretty much non-stop ans still preserve his voice almost pristine as he has, also, they're playing superbly, most young bands wish they had the stamina and endurance (and most importantly the talent) these guys have, it's truly admirable.
Pheminon - He can't hit the high notes anymore, and by all accounts, he is ok with that. He was in his mid twenties when FTK and Hemispheres were recorded, and laying down the vocals for those albums, let alone singing them 200 nights a year, nearly ended his singing career then. It's why he completely changed his singing style for Permanent Waves. If you listen to what he's been saying for the last twenty years or more, it's clear that his real musical passion is playing the bass. He doesn't care so much about playing keyboards or singing - he wouldn't do either, if he could get away with it. He loves playing bass. It's what he is best at.
Felken - That's partially true. For many of their older songs, they tune the instruments down a half or full step (not octave) to make it easier for him to sing the song. On some songs, like "2112" or "Circumstances", it sounds great. Others, not so much. It's part of the reason we haven't seen them do songs like "Beneath, Between and Behind" or "In The End" since the early 80s.
Felken - Also, side 1 of Hemispheres was always too high for Geddy to sing comfortably. They didn't realize it until they had recorded almost all of the instruments. Back then, it would have blown their already maxed out recording budget to fix it. So Geddy really struggled with the vocals.
“ Like they said about James Brown : “the hardest working entertainer in show business” , well quite certainly Neil Peart was “the hardest working drummer in show business!”
Wouldn't say they're breaking up, but it's been made very obvious through R40 and all the publicity around it that they won't be touring anymore. It's a shame but that's how it is.
Cannot believe Alex sold this guitar , his es 335 this one made him a millionaire , i could care less of the stuff he, doing now, but if it makes him happy ,go ahead, one day he,ll wish he had kept this guitar.i will not spend any money on there re-issued albums or merchandise ,if these two do not get back together they will not get a dime from me.
i would do literally anything to watch them play book I and book II live
Cool. It shall be "arranged".
They played both in 1978 and 1979, though there is no video
BookII is Hemispheres, I believe
;0 in front of a RIO CROWWD!! ;0 (esp. imagine what they could achieve in front of a laser-displayed project screen these days?!? ;0 omg!!)

For my money, Rush in Rio is the best they’ve ever sounded live. Heavy and crunchy.
I disagree... the audio and mix from Rush in Rio is abysmal.
dont agree-- they had major problems in Brazil those concerts with weather-- their crew did a great job getting this recorded...
Checkout R30 for technically clean music
Thank God that DVD exists. And I'm sure it could made into a Blu-Ray also, which REALLY should be done.
Agree. This is Rush at their post-tragedies pinnacle. Raw, tight, heavy. I love this recording.
RIP Neil. You were the best on drums and lyrics
Geddy had the nastiest tone in the 90's.
this is 2002 :D
Late 90's and early 00's ***
do you say that in a good or a bad way
@@lesramen good ofc
Agreed. Such an aggressive tone. It sounds amazing.
CYGNUS X-1 is the pinnacle of the RUSH sound. How can anyone with a pulse not think this is the best thing ever ?
love the bass tone from the rio album
An absolute opener. This trio is the real deal.
This song is so underrated
Rush's darkest song.
Watching this brought a tear to me. I remember seeing them on their Falwell to Kings tour and this song was brand new.
Wow! If these guys keep at it, they might be a really good band one day!
Love to see them feeding off the energy of the crowd and vice versa
In addition to being the most awesome band ever, Rush was also the first band to put a washing machine into space.

FUCK, I wish they'd play the full version of books I & II live! I'd do anything to see them live if I knew in advance!
Yes.
I wish they could. They did play all of The Voyage, and most of Hemispheres on the Permanent Waves tour. My first Rush concert.
Absolutely amazing bass work!!! Probably their best bass performance yet!
So heavy and perfect!!!!
I wish i could see if Geddy Lee could still hit those high notes at the end of the song

I read that for the Cygnus series, they lower the entire vocal range by an octave to accomodate his aging voice.
Pheminon - He can't hit the high notes anymore, and by all accounts, he is ok with that.

A defining moment in 70s space/Prog Rock. I think this and Xanadu are my favorites of all time.
Ever check out FM Black Noise? Another great example, amazing playing and lyrics hugely influenced by these dudes.
Damn alex tearin it up !!WOOO
Rio was probably the biggest crowd they ever played!
no it was Sarstock in Toronto 2003.... 500k people
They were especially on fire in Brazil. You have to be.
marvelous, how smug, i sit here being a Rush fan....
The star that would not die
“ Like they said about James Brown : “the hardest working entertainer in show business” , well quite certainly Neil Peart was “the hardest working drummer in show business!”
How to turn a simple riff into the ultimate monster!
Demasiado fuerte para la mente...espectacular.. too much hard to the mind..spectacular.
Wish they had a complete version live on youtube
Teaching the kids how to do it when they were into their 50's. Heavy as fuck. None darker or heavier.
rush is breaking up I can't believe it such good songs music beat band ever
Where did you hear that? Link please?
Wouldn't say they're breaking up, but it's been made very obvious through R40 and all the publicity around it that they won't be touring anymore. It's a shame but that's how it is.

prrzz, "you had me at 'cygnus'... ;)"...
Is that a clothes dryer in the background?
