- The Tarawera River is a beautiful river fed by Lake Tarawera via the Tarawera Outlet and the 65 meter high Tarawera Falls. We explored along this amazing scenic river and hiked to the falls, outlet and lake. There's tons of pristine swimming holes in this tranquil, blue river.

As a Kiwi from Gisborne with a family Bach (vacation home) in the Rotorua lakes area, this part of the world is stunning.
I have travelled the world reasonably extensively and have always found these parts of my homeland second to none.
Mystical Maori culture and the beauty still takes my breath away.

Its pronounced Tah-ra-weh-ra ur rolling ur tounge at the ra parts. I live here in kawerau. Tarawera is so beautiful. Our waters are beautiful and I'm glad we have no crocs or any scary things in our water
