    First, let me say that all your videos are not only instructive and well thought out but very comprehensive and of high quality. I haven't owned a dog in 25 years but I'm scheduled to pickup a 16 week pup in mid March. Your videos have prepared me, I hope, for a challenging and rewarding experience with my new friend. I'm leaning toward getting a Kong chew toy but I'm not what certain size is appropriate for a mini poodle pup. I'm also, considering adding a Benebones and a Bob-A-Lot. Thanks for the great videos.

    My pup enjoyed different chews at each stage lol. 2-3 months no loose teeth hairless rabbit ears. 3-4 months front teeth gotten loose Denta sticks, now she’s gotten to 4months and a week and has loose molars and new molars coming through and now it’s the himalayan chew. Those last a a good few days and she just loves it it seems to be the only thing that satisfies her molar teething.
    Rabbit ears are completely gone within 20 mins now so I give as a treat or on days her teething means she won’t eat her normal food to try and get much needed food in her. And sometimes she wants denta sticks.
    I will see how her chewing progresses through this process 🤔 lol

    Please don’t give your dog or puppy a tennis ball sure the dog will shred up but you’ll be lucky if it ends up in your floor but it may just end up in the stomach that can’t be digested. They need to make balls without the fur if that’s ever possible.

    I'd never give my pups an antler, marrow bone... Or anything for aggressive chewers if they still had their puppy teeth. And many vets agree.
    Yak chews that have no cracks or fissures to catch a tooth in. Water Buffalo horns because of their shape and resistance to splintering.
    My pups favorites aside from his Kong:
    Benebones, for puppies
    A quality rope toy, ends trimmed, thoroughly soaked in water then frozen. I always have 3 or 4 in the freezer for my pups. Under supervision & size appropriate to age & breed.
    The number 1 to sooth the gums? Ice cubes. Size appropriate. My 8 month old, with his adult teeth, is still addicted to them. My vets and breeder agreed and not to worry about the bloat myth. Give them too many and plan on extra potty runs.
    And an ice cube right at nap time was soothing enough to enable better sleep. Just be on the potty time immediately after EVERYTHING schedule.

    I love your videos! We're bringing a new pup home in 2 weeks (a chocolate lab). I bought him a puppy Kong but it seems like it might be better to go for the regular ones instead. WhT do you think?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Год назад

      The puppy Kongs are softer for young puppy teeth, but we do like the bigger Kongs because they are easier to get the good stuff out of them. Give your puppy Kong a try and if it seems too difficult or too soft, you can upgrade. You might also try the West Paw Toppl which is a long easier for puppies who are just learning to use these toys.

    PLEASE READ Hey Michelle and or anyone here that maybe have an answer or some helpful advice. My 16 week old German Shepherd has been leaking pee since we got her. We have taken her to the vet and they have done a cat scan and aaaallll the tests to see if it was something to do with her kidneys or something called ectopic ureter but everything came back normal. She is on Proin right now and has been for almost a week and we don’t see improvement. We were referred to a specialist but are just waiting for our appt. We have to put her in doggy diapers while she’s inside and take it off anytime she goes out or has to go pee. She is already potty trained and still asks to go outside to do her business but still leaks. She’s such a great dog and keeps them on with no fuss but since she’s always leaking we have to wash her bottom half almost every other day so that she doesn’t get a rash from her pee sitting on her. We don’t know what to do. We are getting her some grain free dog food cause we read online sometimes it can have something to do with her diet but we just don’t know. Feel so bad for her cause her backside/ back legs always get wet when she lays on her sides but there’s nothing we can do instead of putting doggy diapers on her. Have you or anyone ever seen something like this in a dog? Any advice?

      I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. I experienced this with one of my dogs as well. Some dogs do develop slower than others. My dog had an ectopic ureter and Addisons. 😭

      @rachelm7525 3 года назад +2

      Hi, Sarai. Did you get a puppy yet? Beagles are certainly a nice choice, but they do like to dig, and they also need a lot of company as they're bred to hunt in a pack. All puppies have a lot of energy, need plenty of exercise and can easily get bored, which means they get into trouble! Those may be some of your dad's concerns, but if you can show him you're ready to help with feeding, exercising and training, maybe he'll come around! You still have plenty of time! Good luck! 🐶

    My Short Jack Russell Terrier can chew through nylabones, benebones, antlers, wood bones etc. which tear off in small pea sized pieces. I give him a kong like rubber thing which he plays with, and a long bar like toy that is slightly softer, bends very slightly w/a crinkly sound to it. He has not chewed this, but loves to play pull or fetch with it. I buy FLAT toys that have no stuffing. He will chew on the piping somewhat but is much better than stuffed toys. Try to get the seamless flat toys.

    We use Nylabones a lot for our two labs. Our labs love them. However, I see that they only focus on one area of the bone and keep going in the same area. Rest of the bone is unused, but we have to throw it as the area they keep focusing on goes really bad. How to make sure they use up rest of the nylabone? We feel bad throwing the bone as pretty much 75% of the bone is unused. It is expensive and harmful for earth to keep buying them again and again.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog

      You might try soaking the nylabone in some pet safe bone broth and freezing it, to entice your pups to use another side. Some people also "rough it up" to make it less smooth, which can be an interesting texture for dogs.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 года назад

      Biting is a really common challenge for humans… but to the puppy it’s just normal! Puppies bite for all kinds of reasons, including if they are tired, if they want your attention, if they have pent up energy, if they have to go potty or many other reasons! We don’t want to stop puppy biting, but we want to redirect it to the appropriate item (so yes, you can give her size-approproate teething toys!). It can take hundreds of redirections before the dog starts to figure out what you’d like him/her to do! But with patience high and expectations low, you’ll get there! This is one toy we do leave with out dogs in their crate. If your dog is an assertive chewer then its not advised.

    My shepherd puppy would not go for the kong ... I would have to dip it in chocolate

      Oh no, let's NOT use chocolate! We actually have a great video on all the great things you can put in Kongs or any fillable toys. Each pup is different and will have different likes and dislikes. Check out the video and find out what your pup's preferences are! ruclips.net/video/zyVY1k_1mYw/видео.html

    What if your puppy’s gums start to bleed?

      This is very common when your pup is teething. Be sure to pick the toy up for a while and give pup a frozen filled Kong.

    benebones and nylabones are very hard plastic! They seem way too hard for puppies to chew on. My vet says no to any chew toy that you can't press your thumbnail into

    Your links lead to a dead end Amazon page that asks for a pass word and log in information. Not sure why. It doesn't happen on other channels. If you're not making money off the links that's why. People are probably paranoid they get led down a Amazon rabbit hole 🕳

      Hey Jesse, these are regular Amazon links to products we recommend. If you click on them and get some sort of error or login mesage that's ebcause you logged out of your own Amazon account and you need to log back in to look at the products. We verified all links are working properly as well.
