I owned the original BB41 black from 2015 with the eta movement and smiley dial. I loved that watch and had it for 8 years before eventually selling. It always wore a little big. Bought the bb58, but never connected with it. Sold the 58 and bought the bb54 and wow! It wears so comfortably, and the shimmering glossy black dial is beautiful. I was so used to the gritty matte dial of the previous bb's I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the new dial of the 54. Long story short, I think the 54 is a keeper as my permanent BB. Expect a GMT Master II “Coke” a Milgauss with crown guards and a platinum Sub for the 70 year anniversary… this is as exciting as it’s gonna be for 2024 but I do hope they make a Quartz Tudor Royal.
I agree, there seems to be less hype around W&Ws and new releases this year than in years past. I think it's the letdown after the chaotic watch market highs of the last couple years.
The amount of airtime for a brand ranked 15th, that turns out homages to Rolex, is strange. Expensive homages at that. So many other brands with more market share and their own design heritage. Tudors catalogue mirrors Rolex, and designs are old Rolex designs. Cheaper chunkier versions. Let’s be honest, it’s all about brand. The founders intention was more affordable versions, made from spares with cheaper movements. The poor man’s Rolex. Without its link to Rolex, it would be criticised as a posh Pagani.
