    Hey man, used to love your youtube videos but I'm not sure this was your best work. I'll try and be as constructive as possible but inevitably it'll be quite negative.
    First off I really like two parts in particular, your response to the audience at 13:53 was great. Made you feel like a laid back guy that's quick on his feet. I think this vibe would be great to show off in the other parts of your performance. Second thing I liked was the joke about 'imagine if black panther was about rap battles and drive-by shootings'. Fucking hilarious, best joke I've heard in a while, I was audibly laughing.
    Onto some of the more negative things I have to say (I like you that's why I'm being so detailed, not meant to be hate in any way):
    You said you've been in standup for 13 years but your entire set is jokes that have been told before by others. I would've loved to see more original material, even if it meant breaking the continuity of your set's theme (race and upbringing). The porn joke was more novel but I'm not sure I would say it's a great bit.
    It seemed you delivered your jokes the way you wanted to, which is good, but I think you had the wrong idea for the delivery to begin with. For example at 27:15, 'practice practice practice' while making slapping movements can be funny, but it's ruined by you having awkward posture. You start by slapping an imaginary child smaller than you and you finish with a punch close to your face as if you're punching someone your own height. And looking away while doing the movement seemed like you didn't really know what you wanted to achieve either. Same with the kick you did about 10 seconds later, just seems a little awkward and doesn't add anything to the bit.
    A lot of your stories also feel like a trauma dumping. You can hear the audience feels the same from all the 'wow...' you hear after you talk about the suicide of your friend. Talking about trauma can be great but you have to make clear that you're making light of the situation. Instead I was confused if you were telling a joke or solliciting sympathy. Your anger is acted out too intensely and doesn't contribute much to the jokes and when they do, it's 30 seconds of angry talk for a medium quality joke. Go back and look at audience reaction to your angry bits, if it goes on too long people get uncomfortable.
    side note: I think your outfit doesn't suit your body, it kinda hides you as a person and made your body language more subdued since most of the movements were hidden in the baggy clothes. I felt like body language was something you wanted to use in your set so make sure your clothes don't work against you.
    I loved your youtube videos back in the day and I think you have a unique mind for some things, just make sure the other parts of your performance are polished as well so that your strength can shine through. I feel like bobby lee's performance at kims of comedy had the same style you were going for, watch it and see how he delivers his material (sorry to compare you to others like your parents did)

    • @yashy21
      @yashy21 7 месяцев назад +23

      You broke it down pretty well. I would also add that his facial expressions show a lot of fear and insecurity, and the way he speaks, you can clearly hear that he is kinda forcing to sound more confident and add the emotion but it doesn't match what we are seeing so it ends up weird.
      I would love seeing him improve on those details and get better over time!

    • @dswiigamer1
      @dswiigamer1 7 месяцев назад +11

      @@yashy21 yeah that's a great point, the mismatch between facial expression and the words are what makes it not gel quite right. I would've phrased it more as awkwardness instead of fear and anxiety, but now that you say anxiety, I see that that could be contributing as well.
      Definitely excited to see him improve yeah!

      While I do agree with your critiques, I would also like to take a look at the positive side as well. I thought this was absolutely hilarious, and if he had an actual good crowd instead of a bunch of sensitive, shy introverts this set wouldve been explosive

      @BiblewBoom Месяц назад

      The care and effort to ur care is cool but i quickly came around to enjoy the dry awkwardness. His beating the kid bit made me physically laugh including the kick. Maybe bc I'm asian too so i get his emotions or he has a different style than urs and others uve appreciated but he has something different here which undoubtly will eventually change thru honing. Also please don't reference Bobby for inspiration bc im sure thats not who he's aiming to be like. Bobby is a white boy wannabe and phased out fairly quickly. Bobby reps adopted asians and we need a true representation of Asians. Also his clothes are nowhere near baggy i even thought dude, skinny jeans are canceled.

    I like your material, but imo the delivery is too aggressive. It might not even be that it's too aggressive, but the style, tone, cadence, and intonation is too consistently, particularly consistently aggressive. I think the best comics are able to present their stories, lead ups, and punchlines very dynamically. I actually think that could be a habit from how you've historically presented your documentary style content where it makes sense. You're bringing your energy up higher than said past content to own the stage in a live setting which is good, but the energy, or at least the level of it consistently can wear on an audience member and dull the impact of your punchlines when it's all been delivered at similar power. Sincerely though, good luck and I hope you keep going.

    Yooooo. brother. I give big props to you for having the balls to do standup and go into risky topics. As a someone who really like your content and want you to succeed, your pace is too akin to a documentary or a TED talk. There are comedians who have a slow pace but their style of jokes match with it, like louis c k. I think for your type of jokes you need a punchier delivery for it to hit harder. Also try to avoid stereo typical jokes because I feel like I've heard the same joke said in a different way a million times before. I wish you the best. Good luck in your career. It makes your on-stage persona more "glued together" in a way, or confident, which imo is pretty necessary, helps to create that experience of a standup show. Looing forward to your next show and watching you grow as a comedian and perfomer.

    The input from the audience with Genghis Khan was a great springboard into an improv tangent, though I can get how it's better to see in hindsight.

    When you fish for applause more than laughs...idk if comedy is dead but YOUR comedy is.

    Whats Different about This guy Is....well first off, he doesn't always try to make sense.... Which Is GOOD.... And he's Not saying cleshay Bullshit.... He Is much More genuine... Even tho people don't always laugh.... But he Actually IS Funny... And This Is because HE ISN'T ALWAYS TRYING TO GET LAUGHS FROM PEOPLE. he's In yo Face and Real about how he feels.... This One Is Good. Good Job, Brotha✊🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾

    That was fairly entertaining to watch, enjoyed the show overall. Personally, the only criticism I have is the intensity and anger at which you narrated the whole thing. While it was quite fitting with the whole theme of the special, I think it came off a bit overbearing and intense at times. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable, can't wait for more.

    Every second was fucking perfect! I haven't laughed this hard in a very long time. I grew up with many Asians at a boarding school so this is pretty close to home. I think the crowd greatly lacked a sense of humor or the inside knowledge of what it's like to grow up Asian, but aside from that they got the stuff that was objectively funny. Excellent job, keep writing and producing content until you can't be ignored. 💯👌
