This was fantastic - great performance, and you really nailed the vibe of the song with the old-timey sound of the Waterloo, the river backdrop, and the slow moving barge! I've been wanting to learn this one since I heard your demo on TNAG - you keep delivering on tabs, thanks as always 🙏🙏
It is always so nice to hear you sing, and I loved the backdrop for this video 😃 Thank you for the beautiful music, and also for link to the history behind the song.
@@LindsayStraw Well I enjoy your singing very much. The two albums that I have of yours are amongst my favourites, and the ones that never get put away because they are in constant rotation around my house. I haven't sung much in the last two years, but I have been reminded by videos like this how much I loved doing it, and have been inspired to start getting back to it. So thank you 🙂I know how much work goes into making videos, and they are very appreciated!
I would drive states away just to see you play music live in a bar or cafe, nothing matches as good as hearing it and feeling it in your body, this is pure amazing 👏 👌
Fantastic! I really appreciate the singing, the playing, and the storytelling…. I’ve heard several murder ballads that take place down at the river, and this one fits perfectly with them. (Very effective location for your video, too.) Great work!
@LindsayStraw hey... you deserve it! I stumbled upon this trying to see if Pentangle ever performed this live somewhere. Needless to say I didn't succeed but I found something just as good! Having the tabs for this version is icing on the cake. Thank you!
@@LindsayStraw Check out this 'ol Euro: Erwin Van Ligten. He did demos for The Fellowship of Acoustics in a similar vein to your North American Guitar. I wish he did tabs like you do now. ruclips.net/video/2ht9hfR1yqk/видео.html
Would you say this, or the version in Am, is a better starting point for learning this tune? I will try both, but really need to nail down and record a few tunes first! Thanks 🙂
Beautiful performance Lindsay - If you ever perform this in UK I would suggest changing the Lyric - John Lewis is a very well known Department Store in the UK - bit like Macy's lol
Ah, I assume you're looking at the tab...this is one quirk of Flat that I like but I can see how that'd be confusing if you're not used to it! The shaded notes are held notes, so you don't need to hit them again. It's not ideal for tab, but I personally don't like the look of rests in standard notation unless they're intentional, so that's the trade-off.

You surprised me, Mrs. Sophisticated. Thanks a lot.

I often get in my head about singing and have hesitated to share some vocal tracks, so that's reassuring...thank you!

Lovely version, thank you 🙏🏻
Nice rendering of the tune & vocal using that Waterloo. Thanks, Lindsay.
Your voice is wonderful and such a great ballad tune!
Fantastic. Tone of voice and guitar in perfect harmony.
I have loved this song for years. I can't get over how powerful that progression to G is. Really nice.

Thanks so much!
Excellent Lindsay, loving the ferry passing in the background as well.
I had a couple other takes but this one was so well timed I had to use it!
Beautifully sung and played Lindsay.Love to hear you sing “I will set my ship in order” (Ossian).Keep ‘em coming’😊
Lovely suggestion, I'll keep that in mind! Thanks :)
Great cover. I've added you to my "New to Me" list for future listening.
Brilliant ❤
Again. Amazing performance.
Lovely variant. You do it very well.
Thank you Lindsay for this lovely musical moment!
Beautifully played by the beautiful Lindsay!
You fingerpick and sing very well. Very well indeed.👍
Thank you!

Very nice!
Really nice. Thank you
Beautiful song, and the sound of the Waterloo is perfect, I own a WL14 too and I love it.
It doesn't suit everything but for songs like this it's 👌
Just great.
Nailed it…. 🔨
I like that mic, even with the wind and all it still sounded great…
You’re awesome, I enjoy the music
Thanks! I was genuinely surprised it didn't pick up more wind noise beyond that blast toward the end...really am very happy with that mic.
I love your voice!
Amazingly emotional.
The story so well told.
Thanks for making my day.
Thank you so much!
beautiful ❤
Beautiful! 🥰🙋♂️
C’est superbe ! Grand bravo 👍
Touching
Quite the sad song. Nice voice
Great rendition! I hear some Doc Watson influence in your rendition but you made this arrangement all your own.
Love this tune 😃
Loved it!
🙏☮️✨
Probably one of the best, if not the best, version of this song. Right along with Doc Watson and Pentangle 👍
That's a big ol' compliment! 😊 Thanks!

down by the water...❤
I prefer you on the soothing cedars but this ol jangly starvation box is perfect for the song.
I gotta file the term "jangly starvation box" for future use 😅

I think they're probably equally challenging in different ways, so I would say pick based on which key is better for you to sing in (if you plan to).
Thanking you kindly (and I very much intend on sparing everyone exposure to my singing) 😄@@LindsayStraw

If it weren't a true story perhaps, or if there were controversy to consider, but I think it's a common enough name I'd be forgiven!
❤❤❤
This is how we named our dog g Little Omie. But I still love Doc Watson
Such a sad song, but Omie has been on my list of potential pet names, too!
❤❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️❤️
i like your hair in the wind time 3:25
In your tab, what do the shaded notes signify? Optional notes? If so, are you playing them in your performance?
