As someone that’s not bothered by a lot of Netflix Castlevania, (even if I agree some of the changes were stupid and unnecessary), I thought Hector’s portrayal and storyline was truly bad.
They might change it later on he hasn’t gotten his revenge

I love that his running animation looks like Curse of darkness, as well as the animation for him jumping and falling. The block was a nice touch too! Very nice sprite animation. I’m excited to see more!

Kogi Igarashi said once,the blue background menu in SOTN was a undone job,because they hadn't much time enough to make a more krafted menu,but even so this menu become a trade mark of SOTN,and is a good idea bring It to this fan made,as well as another sprites of SOTN that still is one of the most beaultiful games made in pixel art already done.
This is probably as close to Symphony of the Night's gameplay that I've ever seen. The zombies, skeletons, and bats appear and move exactly as they do in SotN. I'm extremely excited to play this.

Adding a mini-map in the normal gameplay is genius. And making equip items have a special effects is another level of genius. 👌

Love how smooth the combat goes. Especially how you can move or jump right away after the backdash and still retain some momentum from it.

What a wonderful way to start a new year, if not a good Fangame, this that has barely started the project and seemed very well developed, I expect great things from this project! I'm dying to play hahaha! finally someone who also has a lot of affection for the Castlevania franchise.

I like that Hector's sprite is very faithful to the ps2 movement, but IMO, he should have a slowed down movement, like the 2d Sprites (Shanoa and Alucard come to mind) with some more movement frames, as to seem less stiff. Great work, nonethelesz

From what I've heard There were supposedly some Isaac sprites at some point but it got lost along with Donoffrio's other sheets.

@@gian2074 The ones made by Donoffrio Are still there. Like his walk and sword boomerang and Devil forging. I recreated some frames using his hector as a base at one point.

This looks amazing... thank you for your continuing efforts... let's keep the Castlevania Legacy alive and more importantly let's make it a bigger game... the story is so vast you can almost do anything with it... please incorporate the HP walking armor that would be fantastic and one of my personal favorites... but can we have a HP suit of armor therefore the more pieces of armor you wear with it gives you a higher ability of HP recovered

Of all the Castlevania fan games I've seen, this is definitely the smoothest-looking by far. A lot of the fan games have an issue of jarring animation and physics, and this one seems to nail it just right.

Excellent Hector sprite. I also like is attack animation. Walking and jumping looks sightly off to me but maybe I am just imagining things.
Using chairs as save rooms is a really funny reference.

The graphics and animations are very good, but I don't know why but it seems like the map needs something more. I would understand if this were a Clock tower map, but I don't know why I feel like it doesn't look like a cathedral map. I think it must be because castlevania games have accustomed us to huge stairs and staircase-shaped platforms, as in Aria of Sorrow, Sotn and Circle of Moon
But keep up the excellent work, you are heading in the right direction, I wish you much success my friend.

i can say the BG music is so damn good!
Looks great! A couple of suggestions, if you would listen to them:
-The text of the scroll would benefit greatly from rewording it. If it's meant to be a puzzle, the text should be only a hint and not outright give the solution. Maybe it could read "Foes in tall room... ...gravestones" and the stones could have an engraving of the enemy.
-Some of the particle/lightning effects for some of the enemies' attacks don't seem to fit the overall aesthetic and stand out in a not too flattering way.
-Blocking should not be a thing in a 2D-vania, because it would make it too easy. At most you could have a parry.
-Save rooms are too big. I get it's a direct reference to the PS2 games, but in a 2D-vania saving should be fast and convenient. Even in the PS2 games saving was a chore because of the big rooms.
I wish you success in your project, you have talent and passion for the series. I'm sure the finished product will be worthy of praise and you could even become an indie developer with your own stories!
I mean, technically, equip-able Shields existed in SotN. :P
What about a compromise for blocking? If it's not too complex [or time-consuming] to program, then make the _success_ of blocking dependent more on Hector's CON stat [less on DEF] versus an enemy's total ATK. I'm no programming expert, but I think it could work on paper similarly to how CON affected things in SotN.

At best, blocking could just reduce damage [similar to Jonathan's "Stonewall" stance skill] most times, requiring Hector's CON stat to be *_very_* high relative to an enemy's ATK to negate damage altogether.
The way it is rn guarding an attack causes chip damage based on how strong the blocked attack is compared to Hector's DEF and max HP, but honestly having it rely on CON might be a better play here.
I could also make it so stronger attacks break your guard more easily too
A game being east is not a good or bad thing. Maybe they want the game to be easier?
I don't want it to be easy in general, but this is the first stage of the game so I think being brutal with stuff would not be a very good idea.
My idea was it being medium-easy in the beginning, then always increasing difficulty, just to give the player the time to adjust to the controls and moveset
Yep if the guard can break or can just minimize damage on some stronger attacks that'd be great.
You're in the right direction, I just hope you don't sway too far from your initial vision - but also weigh in some good suggestions from others.

Wow, Hector looks amazing!! The end animation of the sword swing looks a bit unnatural (he swings the weapon too far behind him), but either way this looks incredible.
It looks with a lot of potencial, I hope you can completed. Curse of Darkeness its one of the best Castlevanias.
