As someone who worked in the food delivery business, that is a common misconception. Not every food delivery platform charges hawkers/restaurants/cafes/etc the commission rate, but transfer the commission rate of the say 32% to the customer. The bulk of individuals who uses these platforms are more than willing to pay for the said occasion. Say your base price sold in stores is at $3. You should be selling at a near 1.5x, at $4.50 After the base commission rate of 30% (32.1% after GST), you'll be receiving back $3.06 Concluding from that, food delivery platforms should be deemed as a supplementary to your existing business.
Act pitiful mah hoping got uproar and platform lower the commission further. Just like when will we hear hawker saying they earning tons of money? But when they go pick up their car to go home .......... If follow them back home and probably we will see ........ Same goes to taxi drivers during pre-covid when will we hear they not difficult in earning. I got a few friends driving taxi and some bought condo and some got expensive personal car.

Such a great video!!! I saw Uncle Kok Hua in another CNA video before on how hawkers have been impacted by COVID-19 and it's really quite bad how some stalls have to close after operating for generations. We should continue to do our best to support our hawkers during these tough times and maintain the hard work and traditional food in our hawker centres :)
