Dame Judy Dench is absolutely riveting in this role, as she is in every role. Suzie Izzard looks amazing as Bertie.

Now that's my kind of Queen. She put everybody in their rightful place and reminded them that they SERVE HER. Got all of them running scared. Although I didn't agree with most of Victoria's policies and positions, you can't deny that she was a Capable and illustrious (Sometimes Dramatic, which I love) Queen til the end.

I love this film, I was hoping to see a clip of my favorite Queen's speech from this film. It was the bit in her private office where she says that accusing he of mental disfunction will not work, I love it.

I wished Judi would had done the last queen in her moments in The Crown so she would had done the three big queens in England / United Kingdom

Never say never! But it does indeed seem unlikely now given Judi’s age and her vision… She may no longer be with us by the time the world is ready for the final days of QE2 on screen.

@@angelabby2379 - That used to be the case: James VI/I allowed the rank to be sold for 1000 pounds as a hereditary knighthood as a way to raise money. The practice ended only in 1964, although Parliament gave the title to Margaret Thatcher in 1990 (gave, not sold.) Families that still had a legitimate claim to the title are still able to use it, however.

The real munshi seems to have been a manipulator. And grew podgy - nothing like the handsome and upright fictional representation. Servants and household hated him. But she adored him, infatuated, one suspects, as she had been with John Brown.

Never will a series be able to convey the true reality of Queen Victoria. History will do justice to his 63 years and 216 days of reign, but never a series! For me, that I am British and not a supporter of the monarchy, from my perspective as a history student, like Princess Margaret, Queen Victoria was a very forward-looking lady in her time!

@@Roheryn100 Absolutely! From Lord M [Melbourne], to 'Dear John'[Brown] to 'Dizzy' [Benjamin Disraeli] even her 'Dearest Angel' Albert, Victoria never did agreed to anything that she herself didn't want to have happen- no matter how charming she considered any particular man! Granted, that Abdul wasn't above wanting (and getting) favors from her but if she herself hadn't wanted him to have any, she wouldn't have granted any! Besides, Victoria knew that for any servant or aide who resigned, there would be hundreds of applicants who'd have eagerly taken their places instead of staying in limbo or poverty!

This was a disappointingly dull film. It could have been much more. But, perhaps it is straying from history, and so cannot go very far in its direction without being dismissed entirely.
