Disney Genie Plus with a Large Group at Disney World: Is It Harder to Book Rides at Magic Kingdom?

  • Usually in our Disney Genie Plus videos, we’re booking for a group of one or two - but what if you’re coming with a group of nine or more people? Today we’re hitting Magic Kingdom on one of the busiest days of the year to find out how much a large party can realistically get done with Disney Genie Plus.
    We filmed this week’s video at the height of the holiday season on December 30 - one of the busiest days of the year at Walt Disney World. It’s also a day when Magic Kingdom stays open until 1am, meaning EVERYONE was hopping into Magic Kingdom to take advantage of those extra hours. To make matters even more difficult, I quickly learned that one of the things I THOUGHT I knew about the Genie was 100% wrong.
    Make sure your seat belts are fastened and keep your hands, arms, feet and legs inside your seat at all times because we are off on one of our wildest Disney challenges yet!

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU for using Genie+ on a busy day - and actually saying the date of the day you used it!!!!!!! That is amazingly useful I watch many videos of other creators on how they navigate Genie+...and it's easy to use on a slower day, but for many people who can't go during slower times, this is a FANTASTIC resource!!!! I will keep recommending your channel to anyone asking about tips for Disney 😁

      Hi Bill! Thanks - yes, it was really about helping the family to do what was important for them. We could have grabbed bigger rides early in the day (especially for that 7am booking) and maybe gotten more done, but what matters most is doing the things your family really cares about. I was so glad that they were happy with their MK day. Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    So glad you actually tried this out and found out the truth about booking LLs for a large group! You’re right that everyone (Disney cast members and other Disney vloggers) says that group size up to 10-12 guests does not matter. Very interesting!! This family was very lucky to have you there. Lots of walking that day, but to be able to do that many rides on arguably the busiest day of the year was awesome! Hope you slept for 12 hours after that exhausting day 😂

    • @EarScouts
      @EarScouts  Год назад +5

      Thanks so much, Meeshwell - this one was an eye-opener for sure. I think most of us vloggers just never have the opportunity to do something like this, so we just assume that it works the same for everyone because that’s what we all hear each other saying. And I think if you were a group of 4 (which is what I’ve seen other vloggers test), then it likely is the same. My current theory is that there are two buckets of reservations. One bucket is for people who have their Genie set up for 1-4 people and the other is for people who have it set to book for 5-12 people. I didn’t see a big difference between 5 and 12, but 4 was the magic number. Thanks - as always - for watching! 😃

    We went with a party of 11 on MLK weekend. We did MK on Sunday and $20 per person for genie plus. We did not rope drop but entered park at about 9:30ish. Since we had 3 first timers and an 11:15 Liberty Tree Tavern reservation, we met Mickey first thing. We were able to do 17 attractions plus fireworks without waiting in any stand-by lines. Out of those 17 attractions, only 4 did not require genie plus. Very successful day.

    Just finished 4 days in the parks Jan 13 - 16 with SEVEN people. Using Ear Scouts pointers, we had no trouble using Genie+ Lightning Lanes. It worked very well if you are able to spend the extra $.
    Our first day in MK we rode: Peter Pan, Small World, Winnie the Pooh, Teacups, Haunted Mansion x 2, Pirates x 2, Dwarf Mine Train (paid LL), Little Mermaid, Big Thunder x 2, Laugh Floor, Buzz Lightyear, People Mover x 2, and Space Mountain x 2. That was approx. 6 or 7 LLs in one day. Park hours 8:30 AM (early entry) to 11 PM.
    EDIT: One key factor on the LL - as soon as we scanned into one LL, while still in that line, we would look and book our next LL. We were very diligent about either (1) Keep an eye in the Tip Board for when you can book another LL, or (2) Book a LL as soon as you scan into your current LL.

    • @EarScouts
      @EarScouts  Год назад +1

    LOVED this! We were a party of seven when we went, but we also had a DAS for a family member in a scooter. Between Genie and DAS we got everything we wanted, but we could tell a difference when we were just using Genie for a few of us and how much sooner ride times would be available, compared to a large party. Such a GREAT experiment!

      @EarScouts  Год назад +1

      Hi Jennifer - glad to hear this matched your experience. Disney is very cryptic about the secret sauce that makes Genie work, but now I really think it is just two buckets of reservations: one that is for larger groups of more than 4 and another (larger) batch for everyone else. Hi Rob, thanks for your content, it's helped a lot over the past two months! We took two trips recently, the first in early December as a group of 10 and the second last week with a group of 16. We used Genie+ each day for both and it worked great. I wanted to note that even with our group of 16 (one infant, so we booked Genie+ for 15), we were able to book everyone all at once without splitting into smaller groups. The only time it limited us to 12 was when we initially set up each day and selected the people we wanted to plan for. But when we booked each ride, we were allowed to select all 15 people. At our first Magic Kingdom day, we were able to get on 11 rides with the majority of those booked through Genie+. Rider Switch also worked great as we had 8 kids traveling with us all at varying heights, so the kids that were tall enough to go on some of the more intense rides were able to go twice in a row (once with each parent) which they loved. A side note to that, we were only able to book our next Genie+ once the rider switch was completed. Thanks!!

    Great video, Rob! My son and I loved playing the Disney Genie slots! It takes a lot of refreshing, but almost always yielded positive results. One time Frozen Ever After was sold out of LL for the day, but we kept refreshing for an hour before we got a LL. Whenever we booked an E ticket ride after lots of refreshes, we'd jump around celebrating and people around us looked at us ... and we could tell some of those people knew exactly why were celebrating!

      @@EarScouts It was just the four of us, but it was New Year's Day. I started at 7am booking a Cosmic Rewind Boarding Group on my phone and a 9:15am Remy's LL on my daughter's phone, then booking a paid LL for Cosmic Rewind. Talk about an adrenaline rush. :) Then I went back to sleep. After checking in at Remy's, we booked a Test Track LL and my son played the slots to get the LL to be around noon. We did our paid Cosmic Rewind LL. At 11:15am, Frozen LL were already gone for the day. We LL'd Spaceship Earth, we rode TT and booked a LL for Soarin for after our break. We then took a mid-day break and returned to the Boarding Group version of Cosmic Rewind. All this time searching for Frozen LL. 2 hour rule'd Figment and then Nemo. Still no Frozen. Right before getting on Soarin, we found a Frozen LL using that "In the Red Zone" strategy I mentioned last week. Considering the ride had a 140+ minute wait that day, the LL was huge! It turned out to be a great day. All thanks to your tips on booking Cosmic Rewind and Genie+ EPCOT tips. We finished at Via Napoli for dinner and watching Harmonious.

    Hi there! I am back from my family vacation and here's how it was with 12 people!
    Booked Genie plus at 630. First Genie we grabbed was jungle Cruise 930. We roped dropped big thunder...pirates was down when we walked by so we went to our jungle Cruise instead. Rode jungle Cruise... Grabbed a space mountain for 10:30. Waited standby for pirates 20 mins Rode space mountain twice (rider switch because of a toddler). Grabbed Peter pan for 5 o'clock. Ate lunch at cosmic. Rode speedway the people mover teacups people mover barn stormer and dumbo all standby. Rode the train to the main gate and met Mickey 10 mins standby before we watched the festival of fantasy parade. Then grabbed haunted mansion and it's a small world for 530 while we were bouncing around in storybook circus and tomorrowlannd. We ended our day around 8 o'clock after shopping because it was pouring rain.
    Needless to say it was doable. Mind you it didn't seem like the park was super crazy busy either (March 5th). If you mix it up between standby and Genie I think you can get alot done! And dont forget to set an alarm to when you can grab another Genie plus!!

    We have 9 people visiting in Aug, but I've been designated chief organizer....😂
    I have all of our party on my My Disney experience account and have linked our tickets & booked our park days there too. I wondered if there is a way that my husband can also see all of this info, and then someone else in our party too? I was thinking that I can book the rides that all 9 of us want to go on and then the other 2 could set up smaller groups ( the thrill riders and the chill riders 😂) so that it's easier to book some LL's as 2 groups?
    I can't see anywhere in the app to share our reservations and tickets to others!?

    I love ❤️ your videos, Rob! I watched this twice, pausing several times to take notes. We are visiting beginning on November5th. We are 2 groups. One group of 3 and one of 5, with 1 child in each group. Of course, we want to spend as much time together as possible. The 2 children would also love to be together. Based on this video, I am thinking maybe we could try to book together as a group of 8 for the less difficult rides, and break into 2 groups of 4 for the more popular rides. If you are able, do you think that you could address this idea? If not, maybe an idea for a future video could be about maximizing time together for large groups.
    I have watched and rewatched so many of your videos. You do such a fantastic job! I love how you show the app when explaining your strategies. So helpful! I agree with another who commented on a different video: You would make an outstanding teacher and wonder if you are in fact, an educator. Well you surely are in your videos! Thank you!!!

    Hi Rob. First of all thanks for all the great videos! You rock! I am coming in November with my kids and my grandkids for the first time. My husband and I or my daughter and I have come many many times, and I’m used to doing Disney Genie + for two people, but this will be my first time doing it for nine. This video is great! But If three of my family are under three years old, will I be making lightning lane reservations for them as well, or will they not be included in that. And just be getting on the rides for free just like they did for park entry?

      I thought the same at first, but it was consistently better for the smaller group all day long and when the group dropped to 4, rides that had been unavailable for much of the day were again available. My working theory is that there are two “buckets” of Lightning Lanes - one for parties of 4 or less and another for larger groups. But only Disney knows the real secret sauce. 😄

      Hi Jake - yes, you’ll definitely have better luck next week. The crowds will be much lower. Make sure you prioritize those harder to book rides first thing in the morning. Once you get through those, it will be easy to book the rest, even with a large group. I don’t think it would help much to break into two groups because one of your groups would still be over 4 and I didn’t see a huge difference between 5 and 9. It seemed like 4 was the magic number.
