Imo taking shots outside the box is the only way to break low blocks, you can never get through with short passes when literally all 11 players are parking in the penalty box. Fermin and Olmo should always play against these types of teams
Not Fermin. He excel when playing against attacking teams. Olmo is good when play as false 9 against low block teams because he all over an no opponent defender can follow him.
This the key word: Finishing. We need a substitute for Lewa. I think Lewa is getting fatigued, hence he's struggling with a lot of the chances. We're clearly creating chances against these smaller teams. Interesting stats: Getafe had 10 shots, 4 on target, and 1 scored FCB had 21 shots, 5 on target, and 1 scored. Benfica had 10 shots, 5 on target, and 4 scored [CRAZY percentage btw] FCB had 22 shots, 11 on target, and 5 scored. In both these matches, what struck me is definitely the poor finishing. [The pressing shape is also questionable, but Hansi Flick made the best adjustments.] Maybe Pau Victor is the answer. A true number 9. Maybe try the false 9 with Dani Olmo again. One advantage of winning against Benfica is that. Next match we qualify for next round no matter what. So we can experiment with some players and ideas. Or even feature a new player from La Masia. That would be great! Edit: And excellent point on Ronald Araujo. He's not a playmaker like Cubarsi. I think there's a reason why Inigo and Pau are the normal starters instead of Araujo. He will need to be improve if he wants a chance. Inigo is a better playmaker than Araujo at this moment even. Ronald is amazing at defending players like Mbappe and Vini, but for organizing the attack, it's just not his strong suit.
Lewandowsky is the main problem. Not only can’t he utilize space and receive a ball from deep, he won’t even try. And even when he receives a ball in his foot short, he manages to miss the first touch and misses the attempt first touch pass. It’s details like that that either make or break your game.
Busquets was one of the few people that could see these long cutting passes you make not of. It's a work of art. I see the frustration in Rapha's eyes during those games. This is all about creativity and thinking out of the box.
I think another thing that makes it hard to breakdown lowblock sides is the lack of a proper LW to take on defenders. We tend to rely on Yamal's brilliance on the right side but whenever he finds it difficult to get past, the whole team is dead on the wings. This is why despite Real being in a poor form, they can still cause chaos at the front and win matches. The players also need to shoot outside the box more if a chance comes up.
I think Lamine is generally heavily man marked by these low block teams. Him dropping deep helps creating space behind him. I think the problem is that Kounde’s run into it isn’t synchronized enough. Also, vs. Benfica Hansi’s 3 in the back change when Eric Garcia is on is very interesting. He really increased the speed of circulation that Araujo is heavily lacking. With Araujo so many attacks that night died with the ball at his feet because he chooses to pass safely and missed the window of attack
Inigo always take on or two dribbles before passing to Balde. When Balde gets the ball its a 2v1 situation so he passes back unlike under Xavi where he would exploit the 1v1 hence he had that good season.
First thing is not to concede and also take the few chances that present itself. If a low block team scores first, it becomes a lot more difficult cos they tend to defend with all they ve got.
I hate that balde isnt making runs anymore, hes so fast his fainting is so good, i know he could go past 2 defenders but he just dosent want to hes scared.
Barca's biggest problem in laliga is finishing the chances, the mental pressure of missing chances which could lead to a potential draw is causing Lewa, Rapha to miss sitters in Laliga
I was very frustrated seeing Araujo passing the ball back against Getafe even when he got to make progressive pass. I know he doesn't possess that quality but he really needs to work on that because these low block teams are hard to beat and soon Ancelotti will use the same tactics. Ahhh I really wish Hansi finds the solution.
I think the best option is to try and kill games by converting our initial chances before the opponent even decides to attack or score a goal. That will demoralize the opponent. ✌🏽
Play with a 3-4-3. Pena, Cubarsi, Eric, Araujo, Balde, Kounde, Frenkie, Pedri, Olmo, Raphinha and Lamine. Take the lead early and then add Gavi and Ferran so they can do their thing and be the workhorses. Against small teams that sit back only.
Funny enough lamine could easily make does diagonal switches to balde but doesn't because balde doesn't make a run if you notice lamia only makes long balls when a Barca player is making a run, like the first time he did a diagonal switch was when raphinha was making a run against getafe, which almost lead to a goal 🤔
Balde have a whole left side to cover by himself alone, while Lamine and Kounde sharing the right side job between two of them. Balde does as much as he can. On the top of that if Pedri is on ( and he usually on) he is on the left side(ish) as well and he also not making any effort to help Balde out . While the same time either Gavi or Frenkie ,they move to the right side to helping Lamine/ Kounde to get more options to pass or outnumber the defenders. As soon as Raphinha and Pedri would be able to move to the left side ,Balde could make runs more often, because there would be someone to cover the space behind him. At the moment he is the LB,the LM and the LW by himself.
You can say Lamine not stretching the defensive line. He is always next to the side line. If he is not high up ,that means he is forcing a midfielder or the full back out of the position ( which creates space for others if they willing to move) ,so it isn’t an issue. Also if Lamine could gain some speed before he reaches the defender,he could dribble past him easier and get ahead of him. Also Araujo would be more useless if he would be on the left side as CB. He is a CB or RB. That is his strongest position. To put him on the other side of the pitch would make him less useful. The problem is ,he is horrible when it comes to passing. Doesn’t matter where you going to put him. If you put Cubarsi as the left CB,you gonna miss the crosses to the right side ,which is our stronger side. That would wreaking the attack as well. So switching Cubarsi and Araujo would kill the defence and the attack in one go. That’s not what we need . Also it could make Cubarsi’s defensive work rate dropping, since he get used to play on the left side of the CB positions. That switch would harm more than anything. I don’t even know how you came up with that…. To kill teams which are defending with 9-10 players m you need them to force to leave the defensive positions to create space. To do that ,you need players whose are good in 1vs1 so they will draw more than one defenders to stop them ,which create space,or you need super wide play, which we couldn’t do perfectly this days ,since we have no LW in the team ( maybe Olmo could do the job until we get someone) . Or one of the most common solution is to shoot from distance, which need the other players to make moves to draw the defenders attention ,maybe even move them away from the line of the shot, and more importantly we need players whose are good to shoot from distance. We have two of them at the moment Olmo and Fermin. The same time we need more than 1 player ( Lewa ) inside the box to fight for the rebounds. But I do believe Flick knows this things more than me or you or most of us. So I do believe in him and I think he would find a solution. We usually do have the chances ,just can’t convert them to goals.
About passes to the players whose are making runs…you are right . Most of the players are not making the pass behind the def line. The reason is,because except Cubarsi there is no other player who is great in those kind of passes. At least not from the starting eleven. Casado got a few tries, but that’s it. Pedri needs 5 touches before he can pull out a pass like Cubarsi does as natural. Gavi is more brilliant in a quick short passing play as well. Frenkie,Olmo,Fermin or even Pablo Torre could be mire likely the type of players whose are able to pull passes like this out. But as a coach ,Flick have to find and build the starting eleven and give the, time to learn each other first, before he can start build up the subs and a plan b team. It is a process. And it takes time. I think Flick is intelligent enough to see all of this and he have ideas how to sort things out. His subs are usually make difference in terms of play. The team need time to adopt and master his style. But as you said we need to maxing out the speed of Raphinha or Yamal.
We struggled against low blocks even without araujo..it has nothing to do with araujo.. low blocks ar difficult to break down..even prime Barcelona struggled against teams that did that.. eg inter Milan
Don't use Araujo is put light on Balde. This has been the case before Araujo, the only two players who bring the best out of Balde are Frenkie and Raphinha when he playing the 10. Balde is isolated for 80% of the match every game.
no the 3-2-5 is the formation for low block but not with balde and kounde as wing .......gotta b good winger just like we did again Benfica I think flick knows it let him cook
You are right about Araujo. I don’t know why Cubarsi is the one pushed to the left. Araujo being the more senior player, should be the one going to the left, Cubarsi is simply better than him on the right especially on the ball. The only thing Araujo has going for him is the speed.
What do you think about Araujo's performance. He is really good player but i feel like his injuries hindered his development, especially his progressive passing is like non-existent. Maybe getting Tah for free and selling Araujo for 70m or so would be better for the team.
i mean Araujo always passes sideways and sometimes puts Kounde under pressure when opponents press hard. On top of that we lose our verticality when Cubarci is not playing on the right.
@@danchiziofficial2159well, Araujo has made his share of stupid mistakes too. I don't think either him or Tah is the solution. We need a left-footed CB to play along Cubarsi, ideally a younger Iñigo.
