Thanks for the video. Question though, why not selecting "add this data to data model" straightforward when creating the pivot? Is there a need to delete the first pivot table before it works?
Great Video. Concise and clear you have mastered conveying complex functionality of Excel using simplified real world problems in record time. Great Job! So glad I found you last year. :-)
Thank you Chris, much appreciated with your easy explanations, tone and jokes. You are a legend. I started using 365 but couldn't get the distinct count. By the way have you entered your name for the Welcome 2023 Excel Expo Championships Las Vegas? lol lol ...something that keeps on my feed....God bless.
@@ChrisMenardTrainingglad found you today Chris. I have a cancellation sales of 2, my pivot table doesn’t show -2 if I use ‘count’ instead of ‘sum’. How do I show-2 in pivot table if the total unit sold are in product items like phone, tablet, monitor, keyboard? What’s the different between power query and power BI?
Thanks. Problem here: I have a column with some empty cells (unknown) in it. Distinct count sees blanks as one distinct value, so it adds 1 to my result of distinct values. So, is there a way to count distinct values and skip empty cells???
Hey There! Thanks for the quick video. Quick question though... Prior to right clicking and selecting distinct count on the pivot table I do not have a blank row but after I select distinct count it adds a Blank and has a count of 1. There is nothing in my data that is blank and I can't figure out how to clear it out since it is affecting my overall total.
Hi, I have two columns, student IDs and courses names. Each student opted five courses. Mean both Columns are multiple values. How can we separate first distinct unique, second, third and more. Requested to kindly help me. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Chris, this was perfect. I couldn't figure out why the "distinct count" wasn't showing!! I'm still a bit confused why they needed a checkbox to make the "Add this data to the Data Model" optional?? Any idea why?
Hello, after adding the data to Data Model, i am not able to do sum of order total... It says we cant summarize this field with sum because it's not supported for calculations for text data types.. please help
Hi, after adding the 'data model' to the dynamic to perform the distinct count, the table no longer updates the data, an error always appears, saying that "it was not possible to update the data model of its source data". Do you know how to solve it?
Awesome, Chris! Thanks - I always search out your videos when I have a reallive business data problem to solve. I appreciate the short, on point video
Thanks, Scott! I appreciate it.
Crisp, clear and concise. But not too concise - It was like having a buddy explain something to me. Thanks
You are welcome. I haven't heard that before but I like it... a buddy explaining something to me.
Thank you very much - no messing around and straight to the point!
Thank you!

Very helpful Chris! Although i dont understand why Microsoft wont just make this a default. An extra step for no reason.
Thank you.

When i use the distinct count, another row is now unable to "sum" even though it is a row of numbers. Can you help with this?
Hi there! I'm using corporare account on excel. I don't see "add data to the data model" option. I don't see "power pivot" as well :/
Same problem
Did you get any solution?
Any tips to refresh the power pivot with new data? When I click refresh it changes back to the blank pivot template.

Yes you hoped well, i liked it.
I cant find this option in online SharePoint excel. Any workaround ??
How could I make the sum of the values give me what the counts actually add up to?
I need for MacOS :( Thank you for your video!

Unfortunately if you are using Microsoft 365, you don't get an option to "add to data model" and it is very frustrating!
I made the video using Microsoft 365.
@@ChrisMenardTraining where is this? I cannot find it on your channel.

How come when you count each date the total is 17 but the grand total shows 9 unique customers?
