Underfilling cubes defeats the object of using them as they take up more volume that way! you need to roll tightly and neatly and remove as much air as possible as compression is key for packing! you could have fit all the clothes into that one larger cube if you had packed correctly! you should wear the coat to go through TSA/customs ... you can put chargers and other heavy items in jacket pockets and layer up clothing just while the bag is weighed and then pop them back in the bag afterwards!
Thanks for your feedback. However as a person who likes to keep things in different compartments for different purposes (ie. Summer clothes, winter clothes, undergarments) there's no need to try pack everything into one cube. Especially towards the end it's the weight that matters. Also yes, while you can wear the jackets and put things into pockets to reduce weight, sometimes that's just not possible if you by passing an eco airport like in Galapagos where it's steaming hot. Rather pack what's needed than over packing thing. This is just a tutorial to show people how we did it. Everyone can improvise and have their own system. Thanks for watching ^^
@@Travelwithwinny I meant wear it as in have it around your shoulders just for check in ...plus i meant you could have used the cubes how they should be used and are meant for. I never use the large cubes for travelling but i choose the correct size cube for my clothing and fill it to capacity. I was using that as an example to say you could have fit them in. It was the weight i was referring to in saying just use the coat as an extra bag and also big coats and heavy items use precious weight that can be used for clothing! even in a hot country you could slip the coat on for a minute when the bag is weighed and then walk out of sight and put it away!
Hi Winny, When will you be doing the woman's version? Did you have ANY problems with York's pack as a carry-on? I have the small Osprey Farpoint 40L, which is actually only 38L, and it is definitely more than 9" deep when I've filled it. I'm worried that I will have to check it on some of the smaller airlines. Please advise me. Thank you.
Hi Mina! Sorry I won't be doing woman's version anytime soon since I am on my trip already. Our items are basically the same, except my bra is using Uniqlo bra top, so that saves me some space since it can be a singlet too. I just buy my facial products locally cz of weight. As for our luggage, so far it has been fine for all airlines we been on (Air NZ& LAN). Always check your particular airline standard though... like Star Peru was only 4kg and small carry on dimension, then we know we definitely won't make it :p Hope this helps!
Nicely filmed but you did not weigh or measure your bag. It looks very heavy - you were struggling to lift it. Airlines expect you to be able to lift your own bag into the overhaed lockers these days:( I am also concerned that there is no extra room for any purchases which are inevitable on long trips. I love packing cubes too but believe they can lull you into a false sense of security. Packing tight is not always packing light:) I weigh everything and create a packing list for each trip to avoid unpleasant surprises at the airport as airlines get more strict with carry-on luggage. I wish you happy and travels.
Haha, yea I had pretty weak arms before I started the trip. Now I can definitely put it overhead by myself for sure :) I do agree with you there's no extra room for any purchases, which is exactly what happened. We didn't buy any souvenirs other than postcards or magnets. Which is good since after awhile you realize you don't really need that extra stuff at home anyway. Packing cubes do make you feel like you have more rooms, that's why before we purchased any travel gears, we had to check the specification for the weight and we keep the gears we departed with through out the whole trip, at least we know what the base weight is. I am pretty happy with my list and my year was great, there was nothing I would give up or remove. Sounds like you are an experienced packer yourself ;) Wish you happy travels too :)
This was very nice to see exactly how much you can pack for under 8kg. How did you do with the amount of clothes you brought? Was there anything you wish you had brought or something you wish you had not? Thank you
Hi Traci, I was actually quite happy with the amount of things I bought along the trip. It was enough to survive in all the conditions we have been to, which includes -30C when we went to Everest Base Camp in December. I won't bring anything more or less. The only thing we didn't use was a lock with metal wires, since we didn't stay in any share accommodations during our trip :) Hope this helps with your question.
The way you packed many things was good, but on my computer the sound was too low on your video and it was difficult to hear you even when my sound was on at the highest. Maybe you can put the video sound on higher, if possible, on new videos you make. Thanks for including a list of the items you packed.
Thanks for your comment. I totally didn't realize my voice was too quiet, it was my first time recording a video for RUclips so it's good that you pointed out. I will play around when I get on a computer :)
This is certainly much more than 8kg. Airlines are pretty strict with the weight limitations on how much one can carry. The video would be complete if you had weighed it in the end. Still good video with your small hands packing all those fluffy items :)
Thanks for your comment. I agree that I should've weighted it at the end of the video. But it was 8kg exact. That's because all the clothes we bought were super light weight. Technology definitely improved. Yes airlines are a lot more strict these days, so that's when pockets come handy ;)
@@Travelwithwinny have a hard time believing all this could be 8kg.. :/... I just travelled in a small handcarry with 1/4th of these items without a laptop and it reached 7kg.
the first thing on how to pack an 8 kg bag is to buy a bag that weighs nothing. unfortunately my carry-on backpack i had weighed nearly 2 kilos empty. fortunately most of my travels with that bag are domestic where there is not a weight limit, but just a size limit. i will be buying another bag for my international travels.
Hi Angelica. That's very lucky your domestic flights only look at size not weight. I find that if I can compress my clothes, I can definitely fit a lot more. The bag I used Osprey Farpoint 40 is just 1.44kg, but its a backpack... if looking for something with wheels, I suspect it will be a lot harder :(
Most airlines in the US don't bother restricting weight and only care about the size. They only require that you be able to lift the bag yourself into the overhead storage. Of the 8 European flights i took on my last holiday, most limited the weight to under 10 kg, and one flight i had to keep it under 8 kg. Luckily that flight also allowed a personal item so I stuck all my heavy items into my personal bag. I much prefer the restrictions (or lack of) in the US since I can fit PLENTY into a carry-on so long as I can compress much into packing cubes. But traveling through Europe with just a light carry-on has forced me to change my over-packing ways quite a bit. Next month I am taking a 5 day trip with just a small duffel bag measuring 14x10x8 inches.
@@myflyingkidney but it was 8kg, all my gears were very light. I should've weighed the bag at the end of it, but this was my first video, so I didn't think about doing it. I can't be bothered doing another one now I have 2 kids...
@@Travelwithwinny I see, do you have any recommendations for lightweight clothes? I know some merino wool companies and I know poliester is advised as it dries quickly, but any other suggestions are appreciated :)
I am impressed. I find that it's more difficult to pack light for a cold climate destination and you manage to do it very nicely.
Yes, packing cubes or jumbo ziploc bags are the way to go. You can compress the air out of the ziplocs, allowing for even more room in your bag.
Yes that's true! Although gotta be careful not to add too much weight to it since you end up fitting more :P
I usually take 3 quick-dry t-shirts when I travel, because I will inevitably buy a t-shirt or two on the road.
I find that guys usually need fewer things than girls. My fiance was just washing his t-shirt every night :P

What brand are those two sided packing cubes? Where did you get them? :)
Hi Kris, I got them from Ikea :)
I’ve had the exact same IKEA packing cubes for 6 years… they are terrific!
I have to carry a tent, sleeping bag and mat, which makes it a lot more difficult.
are u sure it's 8 kg , it looks like so heavier?
ahmed saeed yeap it was under 8kg for sure :)
I like your packing bags😍😍😍
Thank you this is very helpful!
Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, hope it helped :)
Is that ospery 40L (S/M)? cos I tried (M/L)one it didn't fit me :(
I am short (156cm) so I have the S/M for Osprey Farpoint 40, but my fiance has size M/L. The one you see in the video is size M/L :)

cabin baggage is 7kg and she packed 8kg
